You can volunteer as little as once a month or you can volunteer once a week or more. Routes typically take an hour to an hour and a half. The average route has around 15-20 stops. Meals are delivered daily Monday through Friday (except for holidays) and meals can be picked between 9am-11am.

Offering up a small portion of your time can make a great impact on the people you will deliver to. They will appreciate your kindness and willingness to make sure they receive a meal. It may be the only hot, nutritious meal they have that day. You are also providing a welfare check as you may be the only person they see that day.

Little Chefs, Big Change is seeking enthusiastic and dedicated Cooking Class Volunteers to join our mission-driven team. As a Cooking Class Volunteer, you will work directly with the Lead Cooking Instructor, other volunteers, and students, helping us bring the joy of healthy cooking to after-school programs with the Shora Foundation at the Knoxville Botanical Gardens.

During a typical class, you might:

Do you live in a "world of wounds" so eloquently described by the father of Conservation Biology, Aldo Leopold? Do you want to help keep all the parts on the landscape and be the intelligent tinkerer, the steward, that wild places demand of us?

Join the Rock Island State Park team in the establishment of our first ever ongoing volunteer based Invasive Species Strike Team. Your actions will have a direct impact on the success of endemic, rare, and threatened species in the park. Your volunteerism matters! Your actions can have an impact for generations!

The strike team will use hand tools, mechanical tools, and herbicide to target and remove the identified invasive plants in Rock Island State Park. Previous experience is not required; training and guidance will be given.

Purpose/Overview:  LaunchPoint is a four-week program which helps homeless men and women begin a new life journey. During the four-week period, a class of approximately 30 participants begin discovering God’s plan and purpose for their lives, develop their own life plan with realistic goals, and learn to implement their life plan in manageable steps.  The focus of LaunchPoint is on moving forward and making good choices. 

Table facilitators will facilitate session icebreakers and devotionals as well as give instructions for activities and exercises. The table leader will also facilitate table discussions, Q&A, and participant feedback. Table facilitators are asked to be focused on the relationship and spiritual connection with our guests rather than being required to have extensive knowledge of the resources available.  Tasks are structured, and training will be provided. 

Responsibilities:

Serve as a positive role model, healthy support system, and great listener for assigned group Facilitate session icebreakers and devotionals Give instructions for activities and exercises Lead table discussions and promote involvement Post-class prayer with staff and volunteers Keep group on task and focused Reinforce a sense of responsibility with positive encouragement as individuals’ complete goals Support client’s development of greater confidence, motivation, and self-esteem Define appropriate boundaries for a supportive relationship in which each individual can become more responsible and independent Be available for approximately 15 minutes after class for debrief

Purpose/Overview:  LaunchPoint is a four-week program which helps homeless men and women begin a new life journey. During the four-week period, a class of approximately 30 participants begin discovering God’s plan and purpose for their lives, develop their own life plan with realistic goals, and learn to implement their life plan in manageable steps.  The focus of LaunchPoint is on moving forward and making good choices. 

Table facilitators will facilitate session icebreakers and devotionals as well as give instructions for activities and exercises. The table leader will also facilitate table discussions, Q&A, and participant feedback. Table facilitators are asked to be focused on the relationship and spiritual connection with our guests rather than being required to have extensive knowledge of the resources available.  Tasks are structured, and training will be provided. 

Responsibilities:

Come help us teach refugees how to sew and how to market that new skill on their path to self-sufficiency!

The three pillars of success for refugees in the United States are learning English, employment, and community engagement.  With our new G.R.O.W. program, we hope to provide our refugees a path to accomplish all three.

G.R.O.W. stands for Growing Refugee Opportunities and Wealth, and it is a community-driven Bridge Refugee Services initiative centered on fostering sustained self-sufficiency through culturally informed vocational training, wellness education, and entrepreneurial opportunities.  Right now, the program is centered around teaching sewing as a marketable skill, ESL, and the entrepreneurial instruction to use this new skill to bring in a steady income. 

We are looking for volunteers to help us as floaters/assistants, with transportation, with set-up and tear-down, and with childcare.  No sewing experience, foreign language skills, or experience with working with refugee populations needed!

This opportunity is on the second and fourth Saturday of each month from 9:30am-12:30pm at First Presbyterian Church.

The three pillars of success for refugees in the United States are learning English, employment, and community engagement.  With our new G.R.O.W. program, we hope to provide our refugees a path to accomplish all three.

G.R.O.W. stands for Growing Refugee Opportunities and Wealth, and it is a community-driven Bridge Refugee Services initiative centered on fostering sustained self-sufficiency through culturally informed vocational training, wellness education, and entrepreneurial opportunities.  Right now, the program is centered around teaching sewing as a marketable skill, ESL, and the entrepreneurial instruction to use this new skill to bring in a steady income. 

We are looking for volunteers to help us as floaters/assistants, with transportation, with set-up and tear-down, and with childcare.  No sewing experience, foreign language skills, or experience with working with refugee populations needed!

This opportunity is on the second and fourth Saturday of each month from 9:30am-12:30pm at First Presbyterian Church.

Do you enjoy spending time with others?

Elderly or disabled clients can greatly benefit from a volunteer visiting in the capacity of a friendly neighbor providing socialization and much needed contact to the outside world, combating isolation and loneliness. Often those needs are not met by traditional programs, so volunteers can step in and close this crucial gap in services. 

Depending on the client's needs, volunteers in this role will just spend time with the client talking, reading or assist with getting the mail and reading it to the client or helping them understand the contents. Some clients may need a hand with simple household tasks such as switching a light bulb or vacuuming. Volunteers and clients could also partake in doing simple art projects together, if desired. 

Volunteers will be paired with a client in their area and volunteer and client will agree on the specifics of the volunteer's role prior to any visits. Volunteers should be willing to commit to a minimum of one visit per month for this opportunity.

When a patient passes away, the accentCare team comes around the family to offer bereavement support and one way our volunteers can be part of that support is by helping to create Memory Bears or Pillows. These tangible items give the bereaved something to hold, smell, touch as they grieve which is invaluable in their healing journey.

Through this volunteer opportunity experienced sewers take patients clothing and using a provided pattern, stuffing, etc. create a one of a kind keepsake.

This opportunity is done from the volunteers home and bears are dropped off to our office to be delivered to family members.

As a veteran you share a special connection with patients that only can be found through the mutual experiences and code of military members. You will have the opportunity to offer companionship to patients in their home, assisted living, or skilled nursing facility while adhering to current health and safety guidelines.

Volunteer activities with patients include: Listening to a patient's stories, presenting military certificates of appreciation, honoring a patients service through supportive presence, but most of all, supporting someone dealing with a terminal illness. If you have your military uniform and can wear it to present a certificate the impact is powerful, but a uniform is not required.

Why We Need You: We are currently seeking a passionate and enthusiastic individual to serve as a Bingo Caller for our residents. Bingo is a beloved activity that promotes social interaction, mental stimulation, and overall well-being among our residents. As a Bingo Caller, you will play a key role in organizing and facilitating our weekly bingo sessions, creating fun and engaging experiences for all participants.

Responsibilities:

Calling bingo numbers and announcing winners. Interacting with residents in a friendly and respectful manner. Creating a welcoming and inclusive atmosphere during bingo sessions. Assisting with set-up and clean-up of bingo materials.

Qualifications:

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Enthusiasm for working with seniors and promoting their enjoyment. Reliable and punctual. Previous experience as a bingo caller is preferred but not required.
