This position will be based in Lawrence and Wayne County.   Leader will provide a 4 hour training twice per month for male or female inmates who have expressed a desire to go to rehab upon released.   Men volunteers will be leading male classes and Female volunteers will leader female classes.  Curriculum is provided and all the orientation needed will be provided.  

We'll take care of the background check, which is required by law. Then, after a one-hour training session, you'll be ready to meet your Reading Buddy.

Volunteer Campground Host: Volunteer who is assisting in hospitality and maintenance functions in the campground and other park operations, and facilitates the recreational experience of the state park visitors. Duties may include but are not limited to: Camper orientation & information, Light maintenance, reporting inappropriate activities or potential maintenance hazards, park programming and collection of fees and sales. Host agrees to exercise hospitality towards campers and are visible representatives of the state park during their frequent interactions with the public. Host is required to volunteer for a minimum of 20 hours per week for no more than 9 consecutive months. 

Good Neighbors is in need of volunteers to complete intakes for interview with coaches.

A volunteer in this position will answer calls from neighbors and complete intake forms over the phone to prepare file for an interview with a coach.

We are looking for enthusiastic, customer service oriented individuals to serve as Ambassador volunteers. Our Ambassador volunteers greet Veterans and visitors, assist in answering general information questions and help transport Veterans in wheelchairs as needed. Standing and walking for long periods is required for this assignment. 

This position is available at the Nashville VA Medical Center located at 1310 24th Avenue South in Nashville, as well as the Alvin C. York VA Medical Center at 3400 Lebanon Pike in Murfreesboro.

We are looking for pet therapy volunteers to visit with Veterans and help brighten their day!

The dog and the handler must have certification from a licensed pet therapy organization (such as Music City Pet Partners) .

Documentation that the dog is current on all immunizations must be provided. Pet handler must provide proof of COVID 19 vaccination.

Visitation opportunities are available at both the Nashville VA Medical Center located at 1310 24th Avenue South and the Alvin C. York VA located at 3400 Lebanon Pike in Murfreesboro.

Financial Mentors meet one-on-one with an assigned Habitat Homeownership or Preparatory Program Partner each month, offer support and reinforce the money management methods taught in homebuyer classes.

A Financial Mentor also monitors the understanding of and follow-through with money management principles (including debt repayment and monthly Individual Development Account deposits).

SUMMARY OF POSITION: A Family Friend’s role is to check in on the parent for ongoing needs, assist in finding and referring parent to local services, remain apprised of changes in the parent's situation and serve not only as a liaison between the parent and WPRP Board, but also as a liaison between the parent and the community and the WPRP organization.

MyRide Greeneville strives to improve the quality of life for older adults by providing courteous and safe door-through-door volunteer transportation to those eligible for the service, enabling them to obtain essential services and maintain their independence, dignity, and quality of life.  MyRide TN Greeneville operates within a ten-mile radius of The Roby Fitzgerald Adult Center.

Volunteers drive their personal vehicles to transport seniors to their destinations.  Drivers must be over 21 years of age and have a valid TN drivers’ license, clean driving record and proof of insurance.  The volunteer's insurance is always primary.  In addition, MyRide TN Greeneville has purchased additional auto, medical and liability insurance for all volunteers.   Both state and federal volunteer-protection laws offer another layer of safety for volunteers.

We ask that our volunteers to drive to a minimum of three hours per month/two rides.   These hours are based on the drivers schedule and availability.   We do not require a set day and time commitment.   We offer training, a nominal quarterly mileage reimbursement if requested, AAA classic membership for qualified drivers and GPS navigational units if needed.

WarHorses for Heroes is dedicated towards providing free equine-assisted therapy for our active and retired military members.  Our nonprofit believes in the power of healing through the help of a horse, and we’re honored to have had the opportunity to support almost 500 veterans in the past 5 years.

We are recruiting interested candidates that have a strong emphasis of experience in one or more of the varied areas of business skills, i.e., administrative, accounting, legal, marketing, and fundraising expertise, as well as those connected to the community.

We currently have openings for the following volunteer board member roles: Board Secretary, Bookkeeper/Treasurer, Marketing/Public Relations/social media Director, and Advisory Board Member positions.

Board Members are responsible for supporting the academy’s mission and providing strategic guidance regarding outreach initiatives, participating in fundraising efforts, and leveraging their expertise and networks to support our vision. Board meetings are held quarterly. Special meetings are only scheduled, as necessary. On average, annually there are no more than 5- 6 meetings a year. The average volunteer hours per month are about 8 hours a month.

The Joy of Music School is in need of qualified music teachers to teach a weekly lesson for a minimum of one academic school year. Our primary needs are piano, violin, guitar, and percussion teachers who are available Monday through Friday from 4pm to 7pm. Columbus Home Assisting Parents (C.H.A.P.) is a home-based parent education and support service that provides parenting education, crisis intervention, and case management for families that are experiencing life stressors that impact parenting abilities. C.H.A.P. services are provided free of charge to parents.  By working to increase parents’ skills and coping abilities, the goal of C.H.A.P. is to ensure the safety and well-being of children in the home.

Additionally, the C.H.A.P. caseworker assists families in locating and utilizing other services in the community with the goal of empowering the family so that they can recognize issues as they arise and find their own positive solutions. Individuals and agencies are encouraged to share CHAP’s information with families but as services are considered voluntary, the family must self-refer.

Duration of services varies, based on the family's specific needs, but usually lasts between three and six months.
In operation since 1985, C.H.A.P. is funded in part by the state and is a licensed child abuse prevention agency. Services are provided at no cost to families, and the program operates under the auspices of Title VI.

Volunteer need: assist clients with transporting furniture on an as needed basis.  Many clients do not have access to a truck and are unable to carry furniture without assistance.

Columbus Home Children’s Shelter and Assessment Center (CESAC) provides 24 hour/365 days per year shelter for children from birth to 17 years of age who have been removed from the home by authorities due to allegations of abuse, neglect or other endangerment.  Duration of stay may be as long as 10 days. Children receive safe, loving care while authorities work to place them with appropriate kin or in foster care.

Volunteers are needed to interact, care for and provide activities to engage the children.  There are requirements that must be met to be able to work with the children.

Samaritan Place provides shelter and support for seniors in crisis. It is one of a handful of such programs in the United States where a complete continuum of care from emergency to independent housing, is offered for this population. Because homelessness issues are different for seniors than for their younger counterparts, Samaritan Place provides not only shelter and nourishment, but intensive case management focused on that population’s unique needs.

Samaritan Place offers emergency,  transitional, and permanent housing services, which allow the guest and his/her case worker the time needed for appropriate evaluation and arrangement of the best possible living situation and supportive services. Through our permanent supportive housing program, we are able to offer housing to some seniors who would not be able to maintain independent housing without some additional supports.
 
Samaritan Place focuses on the core outcomes of increased control, decreased vulnerability, access to resources, and an improved support network. Our overarching goal is to help ensure that each guest is able to live in the most independent environment possible that still ensures his or her safety.

Seniors come to Samaritan Place through traditional homeless shelters, hospitals, Adult Protective Services, and other community resources. Basic eligibility criteria are: age 60 and older; not a threat to self or others; ambulatory; and able to manage daily activities with minimal assistance.

Volunteer needs: Share your talents - play an instrument, sing, magic tricks; Put on an event - Luau, Prom night, bingo/games, movie night, be creative and share your event; Direct care support - laundry, kitchen prep, cleaning; Companions - just listen, talk, share memories, be there.

Docents are the interpretive guides who conduct exhibition tours for all audiences. A background in Art, Art History or Art Education is not required to participate in our docent program. Docents must be motivated to learn about different subjects to enhance their tours and personal knowledge of art. Being a docent requires time and effort, as well as enthusiasm and flexibility. The commitment is substantial, but so is the payoff.

 Knoxville-Knox County CAC’s (Community Action Committee) Volunteer Assisted Transportation (VAT) program is seeking volunteer drivers to assist seniors and people with disabilities to medical appointments, shopping trips, beauty appointments, and other fun activities!

During the fall and winter months our regular scheduled volunteers are not available due to travelling and vacations. We are always seeking volunteers, and this is a time that we will need more volunteers to cover our needs. We provide the vehicle to use and supply the gas. You just pick and choose how often you want to volunteer. 

We are celebrating 16 years of serving the community and what a way to help someone, by getting them to the grocery store to access fresh food and also making sure they get to much needed medical appointments. We even can provide social trips to the senior center or the beauty salon.

CABIN DOCENT

Are you passionate about history and eager to share your enthusiasm with others? We invite you to become a docent for our 1700s cabin exhibit and take visitors on a journey back in time to the early days of American settlement.

About the Cabin:

The original cabin was likely built by the Cherokee people during the mid 1700's and is representative of a typical Cherokee homestead during the early 1800's.  The cabin was moved from its original location by the railroad, due to the railroad shaking the cabin.

Help Bridge Refugees Welcome New Refugees to Knoxville

Are you looking for a fulfilling volunteer opportunity? Well, look no further! We are looking for Community Assistance Teams (CATs) to help us welcome arriving refugee families to Knoxville. Newly arriving refugee families are the main focus of this program, but there are opportunities to work with families that have already arrived in Knoxville and could use some additional help. 

A CAT is a group of 7-15 or more individuals that will partner with Bridge and partner with a refugee family. You will walk beside the family for six months, help welcome them to the community, and assist the family with their integration in Knoxville.

Some specific ways CATs assist families include the following:

· Apartment set-up

· Welcoming the family at the airport

· Preparing a culturally appropriate hot meal for the family’s arrival

· Purchasing culturally appropriate groceries to stock the refrigerator and cabinets

· Transportation to and from appointments

· Community orientation guides to help the family learn the culture and the
community

· ESL assistance

· Deliveries to the family

· In-kind donations of household goods

In addition to these practical needs above, arriving families need community. These families left everything and everyone they know, often coming to Knoxville not knowing anyone. CAT can offer a community to welcome these families to the area and build new relationships these families so desperately need.

We have moved to a new location and are in need of help getting our barn ready to be used for clothing referrals! We need help putting gravel in several horse stalls as well as cleaning them out.

The women who participate in the recovery program at Bridges to Recovery are from a lower socio-economic background and typically have no insurance for medical supplies and/or medical care. Maintaining good health is an important element of recovery so we teach the importance of taking supplements and exercising to build healthy bodies.

We have a need for donations of over-the-counter medical supplies such as Ibuprofen, allergy pills, vitamins, bandaids, and tampons.

Volunteers are needed to help during our fundraising and special events at the Memphis Zoo. If you or your group would like a great way to get involved, volunteering at the Zoo's special events could be the answer! Students - Zoo Boo and Zoo Lights events are a great way to earn your required service hours with over 40 nights of opportunities to volunteer! Special event volunteers are booked through one main contact at your school, organization, or business and volunteers assist during the event. Independent volunteers should contact the Volunteer Services staff directly.  Special event volunteers for Zoo Boo and SunTrust Zoo Lights work the entire shift of the event. No long term commitment or experience necessary. Just have a great time with our guests. 

Center Client Advocate/Mentor:  Work one-on-one with clients.  Training for client is based on Bright Course Program.  Schedule a time for client to enroll in program, after enrolled, classes are scheduled based on client need.  For example, videos on pregnancy, parenting, life skills, etc.  After each class, lesson is reviewed with client and discussion of practical applications of the new skills in the client's life situation.  Clients earn Baby Bucks to enable them to shop in the baby store.  Clients can complete classes once a week.

Virtual Client Advocate/Mentor:  Advocate can set their own schedule.  Using the Bright Course Program, you will send lessons to clients, either to their phone or computer.  The Advocate can set a time with the client to call and review the lesson and discuss practical applications of the new skills. Clients can complete prenatal and parenting classes and receive a call from the Advocate once a week.  Clients will earn Baby Bucks so that they can shop in the baby store.  Clients can purchase items to be sent to their home or come into the baby store to shop. Advocate will enter case notes and lesson participation into a database after each call.

The Mentoring Program connects youth with experienced and caring men and women who encourage positive choices and healthy social interactions. This will help lay the proper foundation for adulthood and enable youth to become successful and productive members of society. 

Renaissance Mentoring is the new brand for the Memphis PAL mentoring program that has been retooled to assist in molding our youth into young ladies and gentlemen equipped with a blueprint for future success. To do that, mentors of all ages and varied backgrounds are needed. Mentors will be responsible for helping in the rebirth of mentees through knowledge attainment, etiquette, confidence and character building; each of these traits will contribute to a lifetime of success and are acquired in a fun, safe and exploratory environment. 

Mentors are required to complete an application, consent to a background check, and must be able to commit to a minimum of 8 hours a month for 12-18 months. Mentors are responsible for monitoring the well-being of the youth by providing guidance and developing life skills, giving love, attention, and encouragement, and helping to ensure they are healthy and safe.

We are looking for volunteers to make companionship visits with our patients that are in nursing facilities and assisted living facilities. This time can be spent offering companionship through conversation, sitting with a patient and playing music, reading, puzzles, bingo, painting nails, watching tv ect.

We are looking for volunteers to provide companionship to our patients who currently live alone as well as caregiver respite visits to families that need to run errands.

Companionship visits can last anywhere from 30 minutes to a couple hours. 

Caregiver respite visits usually last anywhere from 2-4 hours.

To meet our mission, we use chain-link fence panels to put up a 800 SF enclosure for a chained dog.  The dog also gets a shade canopy and sometimes we install chicken wire at the bottom if the dog is a digger.  

Builds are usually on Saturday mornings and last 2 -3 hours.  We advise everyone on our volunteer list when we schedule a build and if you're able to help, you join us.  We are a fun group and the reward is amazing when we're able to witness the dog get off the chain for the first time - freedom and the ability to run and jump.

Volunteering is a wonderful way to show your support for Elmwood Cemetery. The history of the place, and the stories of those who rest here, tell the story of Memphis - our story. 

The oblong-shaped marble 'flower beds' were installed in the cemetery by the hundreds many years ago. They have remained empty for up to a century, in some cases. 

Gardeners can 'adopt' a cradle to plant and maintain. They provide the materials, plants, soil and time. Gardeners must commit to two to four hours a week keeping their assigned plots planted, watered and weeded. Elmwood provides access to water, garbage bags, mulch and ant killer.

Group mentoring program that connects 6-10 youth with peers to work on soccer skills and life skills. Monthly theme and different topics each week to discuss study tips, budgeting, college prep, work on goals and much more. Curriculum is provided and the program coordinator will offer support.

Meetings occur weekly on Fridays from 6:00-7:30pm at the Emerald Youth Haslam-Sansom Ministry Complex Lonsdale (1740 Texas Ave, Knoxville, TN 37921). The program starts February 3, 2023 - May 26, 2023.

Our volunteers build mentoring relationships with middle school students. Each week they lead an after-school club. They facilitate silly songs, games, skits, and lead a short 5-minute evangelical devotion, what we call 'TALK'.  Once a semester, they attend a weekend camp with the students from their club. The Great Smoky Mountain Council is committed to providing life changing programs to all eligible and interested young people despite their background or socio-economic situation. We believe that all youth deserve the chance to be a Scout. To accomplish our mission, we have had to look at our program model and determined that traditional Scouting programs in the evening simply was not the best option in all areas. Through multiple partnerships in the community, we have been able to develop programs to reach an underserved market through after school, community center, and on-site Scouting.

Due to the schedule of these programs, generally during normal working hours, we created the program specialist position to assist/lead these units. Parents and guardians simply are not available at these times and this method gives those youth the best chance to participate in Scouting. The program specialists are paid, part-time positions and we are in the process of filling 3 openings.

KIN is a faith-based organization that pairs Christ-followers with local internationals to help them learn English, study the driver's manual, prepare for the US citizenship test, and various other study needs.

If you would like to meet with a local international once/week for at least one hour to help them learn from a given curriculum, please let us know!

You will need to complete a volunteer application and a background check, attend a one-hour orientation, and sign a waiver release.

NOTE: Some LaMP requests are for children/students to help with homework when parents are unable to do so because of their lack of English.

Therapeutic Preschool is an Intensive Outpatient Program for children ages 4 - 6 who have experienced significant trauma.  Children learn about emotions, coping skills and communication.  Children are provided with a space to work through their emotions in a least restrictive environment.

Our playground needs a set of volunteers to re-mulch it so that it is as safe as possible for the kiddos we serve to play on it and stay active while also making sure the space is not prone to child injury. 

Beyond this, general maintenance around the outside playground at our Bristol Virginia club site needs to be performed (cutting grass, pulling weeds, etc.)

Opportunities in this area include talking with our Zoo guests about the animals throughout the Zoo, conducting private mini Zoo Tours to families, assisting with busses arriving for school field trips, Education Carts, talks for Keeper Training Sessions, assisting during Zoo guest giraffe feedings, and more. After volunteering the required hours, volunteers on this Track can request to train on handling and interpreting utilizing our Animal Ambassadors such as turtles, hedgehogs, doves, bearded dragons, chinchillas, ferrets, rabbits, and more. Our museum was built in 1797 with Tennessee Pink Marble and Blue Limestone and is situated on over 100 scenic acres just 7 miles from downtown Knoxville.
