Family Promise of Greater Chattanooga exists to assist and help stabilize homeless and near-homeless families in the Greater Chattanooga area.  We are looking for front-desk volunteers that will perform duties such as:

Volunteers are needed to walk large dogs and help socialize them.  Walkers are needed every day of the week, morning and afternoon.  Training is provided. 

Volunteers are needed to help socilaize cats and do daily kennel cleaning.  

People are needed to foster cats, kittens, dogs or puppies.  Foster duration can be as short as a week or may be longer as needed.  All food, supplies and vetting needs are provided.  

Repair and refurbish used bicycles. We will train you at our shop. No experience needed.

Visitor Center Greeters assist Guests with trail recommendations, Talk about the rich history of Audubon Acres and collect walking fee and assist guests in Purchasing Memberships. Ideally we like to have 2 Volunteers in the visitor Center so one can be inside assisting guests while the other is leading guided walks or giving tours of Robert Sparks Walker Cabin.

From their website: “The East Ridge Food Pantry is a collaborative ministry with several area congregations who have partnered together to meet the needs of our [East Ridge United Methodist] parish in East Ridge.” The pantry is open the 1st and 3rd Wednesdays each month, 10A-2P. Volunteer duties include, but are not limited to, picking up donations, and distributing food boxes to recipients through their contactless, outdoor model. On the Tuesday before each distribution, volunteers are needed to help pack food boxes for the following day.

Veteran volunteers are an important part of Caris, and we are always looking for veterans who are interested in providing companionship or helping with special projects. Veteran patients may feel isolated or disconnected, and being able to provide veteran companionship is one way to support them.

Caris participates in the We Honor Veterans program and aims to support veterans not only with their medical care but also with their psychosocial and spiritual needs. 

Veteran volunteers can provide invaluable companionship to our veteran patients and can also help with special projects to prepare for Veterans Day, pinning ceremonies and more. 

Community Alliance for the Homeless (CAFTH) is collecting new or unused hygiene kits (sample size), survival items, and snacks, packed in new or unused drawstrings or backpacks to give to those experiencing homelessness. Drawstrings and backpacks are given to housing insecure individuals at shelters and during outreach visits. Some ideas of items to include are listed below. Thank you for your efforts to end homelessness in our community and we look forward to working with you!

Using quart or gallon sized resealable storage bags, the items above are typically packaged as individual hygiene kits in drawstrings and backpacks. The following items listed below are added separately based on the season or weather conditions and are packed with completed hygiene kits in drawstrings and backpacks, then delivered to housing insecure individuals in need. Please see our Amazon Wishlist for examples of these items.

We need someone to assist us at our front desk. This position greets visitors and answers the main phone.  Must be fully vaccinated. The shift is Monday - Friday from 1:00pm - 5:00pm however we would be willing to break this up for someone who is only interested in volunteering one or two days a week or month.  Please contact us with questions.

SUMMARY:

We are looking for volunteers to ride along with our Food Rescue Staff Members.

* In order to be accepted for this opportunity, please sign up and await confirmation for interview and paperwork instructions.

Our Food Rescue Drivers are responsible for safely and efficiently picking up donated products from various donors such as, grocery stores, restaurants, farmers, caterers, etc. Donated products are delivered to partner agencies (food pantries, shelters, senior and disabled housing facilities, etc.,) or brought back to Second Harvest Food Bank for distribution. Food Rescue Drivers and volunteers are required to positively act as an ambassador for Second Harvest Food Bank to maintain and build donor relationships, agency partnerships, and community support.

VOLUNTEER RESPONSIBILITIES:

Represent Second Harvest Food Bank in a professional, positive, and efficient manner to increase our distribution abilities, enhance donor relationships and improve partner agency satisfaction.

Work with Staff to safely and efficiently pick up a wide variety of donated products from grocery stores, restaurants, farmers, caterers, etc. on regular reoccurring routes. Food Rescue Drivers will from time to time be asked to pick up “call in” donations in addition to the regular route.

Work with Staff to adjust route accordingly to maximize time, meet the needs of our donors and our partner agencies. Specified times will apply.

Work with Staff to deliver donated goods to partner agencies (churches, shelters, senior housing facilities, schools, etc.) for distribution to the community or bring back to Second Harvest Food Bank for distribution.

Work with Staff to complete accurate reports for donations received and donations delivered daily and provide this documentation to designated staff.

Work with Staff to Provide excellent customer service and communication to donors and partner agencies (grocery stores, restaurants, farmers, caterers, schools, churches, senior centers, etc.) including a timely response to phone calls and emails.

Work with Staff to maintain a clean truck (cab of truck and food storage box) and any other equipment (pallet jacks, hand trucks/dollies, etc.)

 Have fun and enjoy getting to know our drivers, our donors, our agencies, and our food rescue program.

Trails need continued maintenance.  Tims Ford State Park has many miles of trails that have to be kept in good shape.  This is an ongoing need.  If you would like to volunteer to do trail maintenance please reach out to the park and we will set you up with a needed trail maintenance task.  Thank you in advance!

Join MIFA's Meals on Wheels Volunteer Family, and help deliver meals to seniors, primarily elderly women in single family homes, who are home-bound for reasons of age and infirmity. Make a tangible difference you can see in real time in the life of our senior clients- each time you hand them a hot, nourishing meal, ask them how they are doing and spread some sunshine into their day!

Meals on Wheels runs every Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday mornings. Volunteers arrive between 9am to 10 am to pick up their clients' meals and deliver them with a smile. Each route consists of 10-20 seniors and takes between 1.5-2 hours. However, each route gives you 3 service hours credit.

If you have a few hours free each week or one or two days free monthly, consider spending them with Memphis seniors! Many of our volunteers have been helping our clients for decades. Many grew up accompanying their grandparents or parents, and now bring their children.

Volunteers must have reliable transportation, and the driver must have a current driver's license. The Memphis Crisis Center needs volunteers that are compassionate and reliable to answer our 24/7 crisis hotline. Free training is provided.  Must be 18+ to volunteer.  Morning (7:30AM-1:00PM), Afternoon (1:00PM-5:30PM) , Evening (5:30PM-11:00PM), and Overnight (11:00PM-7:30AM) shifts available.  We ask volunteers to sign up for recurring shifts, a minimum of once every other week.

Our mission is to provide a wide range of thoughtful and fundamental services to families and children during the critical phase of a medical crisis. We serve families referred by medical agencies, by building a network of services and people who ease the burden of life’s day-to-day obligations with compassion and care.
 
Volunteers can support families in many ways through There With Care Middle Tennessee. One essential way to volunteer is to connect directly with the families we serve by coordinating and completing scheduled deliveries of care packages to Monroe Carell Jr. Children's Hospital at Vanderbilt as well as to The Children's Hospital at TriStar Centennial. These volunteers will be required to complete an additional training and background check prior to beginning service to families. Volunteers can also help by sorting and bundling baby clothes, organizing donations, creating care packages, helping with administrative tasks, and more. Home Repair Volunteers work on homes to perform home repair projects that have met the qualifications for the Home Repair Program.  Volunteers will work closely with the Home Repair Project Manager to ensure quality work is done, site safety is maintained, and open communication before, during and after a project. Critical home repairs would remain incomplete without the time and leadership of the Volunteers.

Shifts are 9:00am-1:00pm or 1:00pm-5:00pm

Due to the nature of this role, we ask that you commit to one 4-hour shift per week for a minimum of 3 months. Weekend Volunteers are asked to commit to 2 Saturdays per month. This frees up our staff to work on programming, administrative work, and other tasks that require them to be away from the visitor’s center.

Our friendly drivers bridge the gap of transportation in Sumner County.

Volunteer Drivers provide rides to those who are 60 years or older and no longer drive to get to medical appointments, grocery stores, senior centers and more in their own vehicles!

We provide transportation for riders to a 25 mile radius of Portland. Drivers can pick up rides that fit their schedule.

Paws for Reading is a program that helps individuals in the community and our animals that are available for adoption. Community members practice their reading skills by reading to animals, and in turn, the animals experience the power of the human-animal bond and become more adoptable through socialization.

We ask that you commit to reading to our animals at least twice a month, and contribute a $10 donation to help cover the program’s expenses. The minimum age required for readers is 5 years old.

Our volunteer drivers play an important role in ensuring that Veterans who do not have transportation are able to make it to their appointments. Drivers transport Veterans in a government vehicle and must pass a volunteer driver physical.

This position will be based in Lawrence and Wayne County.   Leader will provide a 4 hour training twice per month for male or female inmates who have expressed a desire to go to rehab upon released.   Men volunteers will be leading male classes and Female volunteers will leader female classes.  Curriculum is provided and all the orientation needed will be provided.

Financial Mentors meet one-on-one with an assigned Habitat Homeownership or Preparatory Program Partner each month, offer support and reinforce the money management methods taught in homebuyer classes.

A Financial Mentor also monitors the understanding of and follow-through with money management principles (including debt repayment and monthly Individual Development Account deposits).

MyRide Greeneville strives to improve the quality of life for older adults by providing courteous and safe door-through-door volunteer transportation to those eligible for the service, enabling them to obtain essential services and maintain their independence, dignity, and quality of life.  MyRide TN Greeneville operates within a ten-mile radius of The Roby Fitzgerald Adult Center.

Volunteers drive their personal vehicles to transport seniors to their destinations.  Drivers must be over 21 years of age and have a valid TN drivers’ license, clean driving record and proof of insurance.  The volunteer's insurance is always primary.  In addition, MyRide TN Greeneville has purchased additional auto, medical and liability insurance for all volunteers.   Both state and federal volunteer-protection laws offer another layer of safety for volunteers.

We ask that our volunteers to drive to a minimum of three hours per month/two rides.   These hours are based on the drivers schedule and availability.   We do not require a set day and time commitment.   We offer training, a nominal quarterly mileage reimbursement if requested, AAA classic membership for qualified drivers and GPS navigational units if needed.

WarHorses for Heroes is dedicated towards providing free equine-assisted therapy for our active and retired military members.  Our nonprofit believes in the power of healing through the help of a horse, and we’re honored to have had the opportunity to support almost 500 veterans in the past 5 years.

We currently have openings for the following volunteer board member roles: Board Secretary, Bookkeeper/Treasurer, Marketing/Public Relations/social media Director, and Advisory Board Member positions.

Board Members are responsible for supporting the academy’s mission and providing strategic guidance regarding outreach initiatives, participating in fundraising efforts, and leveraging their expertise and networks to support our vision. Board meetings are held quarterly. Special meetings are only scheduled, as necessary. On average, annually there are no more than 5- 6 meetings a year.
