VMC is in need of items to assist the individuals we serve at any given point in the year. The Bush Family Refuge  serves individuals who are homeless or struggling to maintain their housing. These individuals often are lacking daily necessities such as clothing or basic hygiene items. As our Resource Center assists homeless individuals achieve housing,  we do our best to ensure that they have some basic items to move into their new home with. This is done with the help of donations of various items like cleaning supplies, bath towels, sheets, pillows, etc.  Donations of the following items are a great way to support VMC's mission and those we serve. Donations may be dropped off at the main VMC administrative offices at 511 N. Broadway, Knoxville, TN 37917 Monday - Thursday 8:00am - 5:00pm and on Friday 8:00am - 3:00pm.

We offer short-term volunteering opportunities for community service such as Tennessee Promise and other programs. These opportunities are for basic but important tasks that help our operations run smoothly, including:

No direct animal care tasks are available through short-term volunteering. All short-term volunteers complete a virtual orientation class with a one-time $10 program fee to cover the cost of your volunteer uniform.

Volunteers needed in FISH Pantry Food Warehouse Tuesdays and/ or Thursdays. 

Duties include learning to use manual and electric pallet jacks to offload pallets of food from trucks into storage, and to move food pallets from storage to food distribution areas.

This can be for any amount of time between 8 am-1 pm.

We are seeking bi-lingual individuals to help us communicate with our Spanish speaking children and families.  Communications would include program registration and policies, inquiring about family needs, sharing child and program goal and accomplishments, and sharing family volunteer opportunities.  Needs include serving as an interpreter, teaching basic Spanish to staff and children, teaching English to Spanish speaking students and adults.  

GraceWorks Ministries will be collecting donations at our facility on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday from 9-1.  I need volunteers to come help carry in donations from our donors.  You will need to wear comfortable clothing and tennis shoes.  Lifting will be involved.

Catholic Charities of East TN has different programs that help people of all ages who may have a need for personal items. Our Children's Emergency Shelter (CES) is a safe haven for children removed from the home and awaiting long-term placement. Samaritan's Place provides shelter and emergency shelter to seniors who are experiencing homelessness or a housing crisis. Columbus Home Assisting Parents (CHAP) provides home-based education and support services for crisis intervention, parenting skills, and case management.

In the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic, SCHAS has created the S.O.S Program to provide grocery delivery services to those who have compromised immune systems or are age 60 or older. 

Volunteers are needed to take phone orders for seniors in this program.

As part of our goal to support the independence of the individuals we serve, Sertoma has 36 supervised residences that provide homes for 95 individuals. There is general maintenance required to take care of these homes. One task that we desperately need help with is regular pressure washing of the exterior of the homes. We would like to have a couple individuals volunteer a few hours to come to one of our homes and pressure wash. Volunteers would need to be physically able to lift and handle a pressure washer.

This volunteer opportunity would be ideal for any students fulfilling their requirements to their TN Promise scholarship.

Groundskeeping for 36 residences is a full-time job even for our efficient and skilled maintenance department. Plus consider our home office location can be a tremendous responsibility as well. We take pride in the landscaping at our residences but also need to maintain a level of quality and aesthetics at our home office location. We are looking for some support during our busy client appointment times. Many times we have 3 - 4 families in our lobby at the same time. Volunteer assistance is needed on a long term basis. For this project, we request a 6-month commitment, for a minimum of 4 hours a week, up to 40 hours a week. Volunteer must complete an application with references and complete a fingerprint background check. 

CROSS is always seeking new volunteers to fill various shifts each month. The two specific roles is data entry for families coming for assistance (minimal experience needed) and Stocking our food shelves. Please note that our pantry is only open Monday 10-4 (beginning April 7), Tue-Wed 10-2, Thursday-Friday 10-12 and this is when the volunteer roles will occur.

Data Entry role inputs our families into the database for each visit, calls local utility companies to verify information prior to providing vouchers, answering phones, and other clerical duties as needed.

Food Stocking role includes restocking of shelves, inventorying incoming food items, bagging our neighbor's groceries, and other warehouse duties as needed. This role does require the ability to lift/carry up to 25-30lbs.

Aid in covering the Community Outreach Office at Blount County Public Library during business hours (days to be determined). Assist in providing referrals and coaching for persons experiencing homelessness (“Neighbors”) who are seeking stable housing in Blount County. Training will be provided. 

Assist in developing/designing print material and writing articles for use in local  

news coverage, on website and facebook page. Background in graphic design and/or writing required. 

Work one-on-one with Neighbors to assess current needs and find ways to assist: possibly offering partial payment assistance for past-due rent or utility bills, refer Neighbor to another agency which may offer assistance, or refer Neighbor to receive budget assistance with our Budget Coach. 

Good Neighbors is seeking an individual to place follow-up calls to Neighbors who've sought assistance from us. We like to reach out to our Neighbors to see how they are doing and to ensure they were able to use the assistance that Good Neighbors offered. 

Hours will typically be Monday 9AM-3PM or Friday 9AM to 3PM.

CASA is looking for volunteers able to commit to at least one year of service as Court Appointed Special Advocates. The 30 hour training and 3 hours of court observation prepare future CASAs for their role as advocates for children in abuse and neglect cases in the Knox County Juvenile Court. 

CASA volunteers are everyday citizens that judges appoint to advocate for the safety and well-being of children who have been removed from their homes due to parental abuse and neglect. They stand up for these children and change their lives. CASA volunteers listen first. Then they act. Volunteers get to know the child and talk with everyone in that child’s life—parents and relatives, foster parents, teachers, medical professionals, attorneys, social workers and others. They use the information they gather to inform judges and others of what the child needs and what will be the best permanent home for them. Being a CASA volunteer does not require any special education or background, just a heart for children and a willingness to speak out and represent their best interests.

You must be 21 or over, pass background checks, participate in a 33-hour pre-service training course and agree to stay with a case until it is closed (a year and a half on average).

Beginning on July 1st, 2025 - individuals who are interested in volunteering with Muse Knoxville must complete a 60 minute on-site orientation with the Vice President of Operations. Orientations are scheduled twice a month - the first Monday of the month from 4:30-5:30pm and the third Thursday of the month from 9:00-10:00am. Volunteers will be credited 1 hour for attending the orientation. Registration for volunteer shifts will not be approved in Give Pulse until the orientation is completed. Volunteers are needed on weekdays to deliver fresh, nutritious meals to homebound older adults in Davidson County.  Volunteers deliver to up to 8 individuals who live close to each other.  Pick up times for meals is between 10:30 - 11:30 am and route delivery usually takes approximately 1 hour. Meals are picked up from our 174 Rains Avenue location near the Tennessee State Fairgrounds.

Volunteers must complete an on-line background check and show verification of receiving the COVID-19 vaccine.  This opportunity is best suited for those willing to make a long term commitment and the majority of our volunteers serve once a week and deliver to the same route each week.

In addition to delivering a meal, volunteers provide a safety check and welcome personal interaction for older adults who may not see many others during the day.

This is a rewarding opportunity that makes a huge difference in the lives of those you serve!

Remember not so long ago when everyone, except for essential workers, were stuck at home? What if that never ended for you. What if you were not able to get out of the home or to even cook your own meal? What if you had little to no family around and there you are unable to get out with others.

Countless times we hear from recipients how they would not have a meal if it was not for volunteers bringing a meal to their door. Sometimes, the visit is also a welfare check; making sure that person is okay. You may brighten a person's whole day just by chatting with them for a few minutes.

FTHRA partnered with Meals on Wheels America need volunteers to deliver nutritious meals to seniors in your community - you only need about an hour. Meals are picked up at a nutrition site between 9:30 am - 11:00 am Monday - Friday and take approx. 1 to 1.5 hrs. to deliver. Our volunteers are often the only person a meal recipient will see during the day and your smile means the world to them. If you have an hour once a month or once a week, we can use your help! We need volunteers in all areas, Washington County, Unicoi County, Greene County, Sullivan County, Carter County, Hawkins County, Hancock County, and Johnson County.

MyRide West TN is seeing volunteer drivers to provide rides for our many older adults who are in need.  Volunteer set their own schedule and can do as many or as few rides as they would like.

Volunteering is a wonderful way to show your support for Elmwood Cemetery. The history of the place, and the stories of those who rest here, tell the story of Memphis - our story. 

Volunteer Tour Guides inspire a love of local history by guiding youth and adult educational tours of Elmwood Cemetery. Elmwood Staff provide the tour script and training. 

Youth tours are scheduled between 9:00 am and 2:00 pm during the school week and last approximately two hours; adult tours are occasionally scheduled for small private groups. Tour Guides sign up for the tours they are available to lead.

What? Volunteers nurture little ones while their parents learn English, practice computer skills, and prepare for the citizenship exam. 

Why? We believe free nursery care helps parents who want to learn valuable skills in REP's adult education programs; a nurturing and enriching environment help stimulate infant growth and ease the burden of separation anxiety. 

We would like volunteer to commit at least one hour a week during adult education classes which are Monday through Thursday 10:00 to 11:30 am and 5:30 to 7:00 pm. 

What: Make students feel welcomed and supported as they complete their homework and develop literacy, math, and social and emotional skills. Volunteers also have the opportunity to become STARS literacy coaches! 

Why: Newcomer students are eager to learn English and excel in the classroom. Providing one-on-one support helps them become and remain active, engaged students. 

We ask for a consistent weekly or monthly commitment, but volunteers have the flexibility to set their own schedules any time between Monday through Thursday from 3:00 to 7:00 pm and Fridays from 3:00 to 5:00 pm.

Volunteers instruct and assist in one of three program areas: 1) English Language Learning (ESOL); 2) Digital Literacy; 3) Citizenship Preparedness

We ask for a once-per-week commitment and provide all lesson plans and materials; available hours are Monday through Thursday 10:00 to 11:30 am or 5:30 to 7:00 pm. 

Why? We know that English language competency, computer skills, and citizenship knowledge are crucial to successful cultural integration; adults are eager to learn English and use it in their daily lives, whether on the job or at their children's schools.

What? Summers at REP mean lots of learning and plenty of fun! 

Why? Summer Break is a great time to focus on skills that are important for academic and life success. Students give input into the activities, topics, and creative endeavors they want to explore; no summer learning loss here! 

Volunteers will volunteer Mondays through Thursdays in June and July, and we ask for a consistent commitment, but volunteers do have the flexibility to set their own schedules. 

Volunteers will build support after-school programming and build lasting bonds with middle and high school students in grades 6 through 12. RDK programming will offer academic skill building, college and career readiness, cultural acclimation support, trauma resilience, mentorship, artistic expression, leadership development, and more!

Programming will be from Mondays through Thursdays from 3:00 to 6:00 pm; all materials will be provided, and REP staff will always be on site.

WRAP has a 24/7 helpline and would welcome volunteers willing to participate in intensive agency training and to commit to responding to afterhours call for help on our helpline at least 15 hours a week for at least six months.  

We receive a lot of clothing donations, both new and gently used.  All used clothing needs to be looked at to determine if we are able to use it.  Once that determination is made, we sort clothing by gender and size and put it in the appropriate bin.  We change out clothing twice a year to keep only the current season clothing available: fall/winter and spring/summer.  

Due to COVID-19 restrictions we do not have children’s program volunteer opportunities at this time.  We hope to open this opportunity at most or all of our sites in mid-August 2021.

The MOW locations at First Presbyterian in downtown Kingsport and at Waverly Road Presbyterian churches are in need of drivers to deliver meals.

Drivers pick up meals between 10 - 10:30 and usually are finished before noon.  Drivers typically deliver once a month.  While most drivers continue to volunteer with us for many years, new drivers should commit to at least a year (12 one hour shifts total).  Since we all have conflicts from time to time, finding a sub or a swap is easy. The entire route is mapped out for you, with step-by-step directions to go from one stop to the next.  Please join us!

Caris Healthcare loves having special project items to deliver to our patients. Special projects can be made by individuals, school groups, quilting circles and more, and previously donated items include lap blankets, pillows, and cards.  Patients and their caregivers are so appreciative of these gifts and the fact that people have volunteered their time to bring them joy. Special project volunteers will not have patient contact, and items would be collected in our office or at a designated pickup location. Items can be connected to special holidays and birthdays, but there's no requirement, and creativity is welcome!

The Ombudsman Program needs volunteers for visits to the residents in long-term care facilities. Trained volunteer representatives of the Long-Term Care Ombudsman Program visit residents in nursing homes or other long-term care facilities and establish a regular presence in the facility. They provide information about resident rights, quality of care, and quality of life to residents and family members. Volunteers also observe conditions, advocate for residents, and handle simple complaints.

A background check and in-person training are required.

This event will be held on the first sunday of every month, with the goal of keeping Rocky Fork's trails and creeks free of litter.  Meet Park Ranger Cory Franklin in the campfire interpretive area, from there we will either go along the road or up Rocky Fork trail in search of litter.

Rocky Fork has the cleanest water of any tributary in the Nolichucky River Watershed. With 2,000 acres of park land surrounded by 8,000 acres of National Forest.  We aim to keep Rocky Fork prestine and would love to have your help!

Gloves and trash bags will be provided but feel free to bring your own supplies.

These trained volunteers travel to the patient's home to offer support and companionship. Your duties will vary but include sitting with the patient, reading to the patient, assisting the patient and caregivers with light housework, running errands, etc.

Veteran volunteers conduct a memorable ceremony for fellow veterans who are patients of Hospice of Chattanooga. The patient will receive a red, white, and blue afghan, along with a veteran pin with the insignia of the patient’s branch of service, and a certificate to honor the loved one for their sacrifice and dedication to the country.

Hospice of Chattanooga has a very popular pet therapy program that brings smiles to the patients they visit. These animals (and their owners) make frequent visits to hospice patients in both the home, assisted living centers, and nursing homes. If you and your pet agree that you would like to bring joy to people’s lives, get involved. All animals must be pet therapy certified, and the pet owner must go through Hospice of Chattanooga's volunteer orientation and training program.

Grief companions are specially trained volunteers offering ongoing support to the primary caregiver or other family members for up to 13 months after a hospice patient’s death. Grief companions provide support to the grieving loved one through phone calls and visits after the death of the patient. Visits may include trips to the loved one’s home, lunch, or other social activities. Interaction may include talking, capturing the grieving loved one’s story, listening, helping around the house, educating on daily life skills such as computer, banking, etc.

Currently, Hospice of Chattanooga has office locations throughout our 18-county service area. We always need help with office support duties such as mailings, filing records, making copies, etc. In addition, office volunteers are often used to make follow-up phone calls to patients and family members to check in and see how the week is progressing. Chattanooga offices are on Highway 58 and East Brainerd. Others are in Athens, TN; Cleveland, TN; Dayton, TN; Jasper, TN; and Rossville, GA.

Help nurture the spirituality of young people; this is intended for individuals, couples or groups. The Spiritual Life program provides children with an additional outlet for support during their treatment at Youth Villages. The program is sustained by individual and group volunteers from local churches and other faith groups who meet with the children regularly for a wide variety of spiritual and inspirational activities. You can decide how often and when you volunteer to match the needs of your schedule; all spiritual life volunteer activities occur on our Residential Campuses located at:

To become a Spiritual Life Volunteer, you must:

Volunteers with the following skillsets are encouraged to register: theater and drama; guitar or piano teachers; yoga, or dance instructors; sports athletes or coaches; trained chef; pottery or art instructors; computer science or basic coding knowledge. Based on your schedule and preferences, we will match you with the appropriate children for recurring bi-weekly or monthly volunteer events.

To become a Teach a Skill Volunteer, you must: 

Join the team; this is intended for small or large groups. Participate in an array of recreation and art-based activities intended to teach teamwork, trust and social skills. Depending on the season, activities may include: kickball, drumming, dance, pottery, painting, yoga, basketball, flag football, cheer, canoeing and much more! This is perfect if you are looking for a monthly, quarterly or annual team building event.

To become a Therapeutic Arts and Recreation Volunteer, you must: 

The Youth Villages Runner's Club engages youth in our residential treatment programs in weekly training runs and monthly 5K races. If you are looking for an opportunity to engage with children that have mental, emotional and behavioral needs and also get some exercise, this is the program for you! Our youth adore having someone to run (or walk) with, not only is it motivating, but it also teaches them health relationships and social skills. With weekly and monthly volunteer opportunities on weekdays, as well as the weekends, it's easy to fit Runner's Club into your schedule. 

Weekly Runners Club Schedule: 

Dogwood Campus (2890 Bekemeyer Drive, Arlington, TN 38002): Mondays from 3 p.m. – 5 p.m. and Saturdays from 10 a.m. – 12 p.m.

Bartlett Campus (7410 Memphis Arlington Road, Memphis, TN 38135): Tuesdays from 3 p.m. – 6 p.m. and Saturdays from 10 a.m. – 12 p.m.

Please note that in order to volunteer we ask that you be at least 21yo or older, willing to complete a background check, confidentiality and liability waiver, vaccination attestation form, and a short, one hour training. 

Our In-Office Volunteers are the first voices our guest families hear when they initially call to ask about our services. These volunteers typically serve for one 3-4 hour block on a week day afternoon. A typical afternoon is filled with initial phone calls, phone interviews for qualifying families (for our emergency shelter program), data input (typing case notes), and providing referrals to other relevant local services and resources. 

Meals on Wheels needs you. We need volunteers to take meals to homebound seniors. Volunteer as little as once a month, once a week, or more often. Routes take about an hour to an hour and a half. We need volunteers in Johnson City, Kingsport, Stoney Creek, Mount Carmel, and more.  Sites to pick up the meals are convenient to the location of the route.
