Volunteer: Front Desk Coverage & Phones at times/folding, stuffing, gala boardsNeed a volunteer with experience at office and phone procedures to work at the offices front desk when receptionist is out or employees are in meetings. Usually, length of volunteer time would be for four hours or less. There are some occasions when volunteering a full day is necessary, but not often. Phone calling to assist fundraising activities would be most helpful during annual Banquet (Spring) and Gala (Fall-Winter). It would also be helpful of the volunteer has many contacts within the county and is willing to call their contacts to assist in fundraising. Volunteers are needed in support of preparation for Banquets and Gala events; this could include folding programs, preparing mailings, creating gala boards (arts/crafts) and other activities in event preparation. Committee Service is usually an ongoing need. For more information, contact Brenda Rowe at 865-376-2093.

Volunteer: Volunteer Mentor - Big Brothers Big Sisters of Middle TennesseeMentors (Bigs) enjoy spending time with their mentee (Little) in the community. We have children in the Rutherford area waiting for a mentor. The decision to become a volunteer mentor is a great one, and an opportunity that will change the life of a young person for the better. We make a difference by creating professionally supported one-to-one matches for kids who want to reach their full potential. But we can't do that without you. Big Brothers Big Sisters of Middle Tennessee offers 4 different mentoring programs, so you can mentor through the program that works best for you! Currently, BBBSMT Community-Based and Sports Buddies programs have resumed in-person programming and match activities while our E-Mentoring and Site Based programs continue to offer programing and match activities virtually. Our Community-Based program is our core, and what most people think of when they imagine a Big Brother/Little Brother or Big Sister/Little Sister friendship. You will contact the Little and their guardian, and arrange for a time to get together on a weekday evening or during the weekend. Please note that this program is active only while school is in session. In Site-Based mentoring, Bigs and Littles meet weekly at a consistent time and place throughout the school year. At the match site, which is the Little’s school, they spend time together doing activities. Matches play games, work on crafts, do shared projects or homework — anything they can do together at their site. Our Site-Based LGBTQ-Focused program is focused on providing LGBTQ+ youth in Metro Nashville Public Schools with supportive mentors. Mentoring will take place virtually through an app called MentorHub, with the expectation that you’ll maintain regular, weekly contact with your Little for at least one year. Please note that this program is active only while school is in session. In our E-Mentoring program, you and your Little Brother or Little Sister will meet in person, then communicate online working through a number of structured exercises and surveys throughout the week, from anywhere. Please note that this program is active only while school is in session. Our Sports Buddies program develops one-to-one mentoring friendships between an adult and a child through participatory and spectator sporting events. Activities are designed to deepen mentoring relationships while supporting self-confidence, goal setting, collaboration, skill development, and healthy lifestyles.

Volunteer: Pet for a Month-Foster ParentThe Pet Placement Center is a small facility and we rely on foster homes to be able to help more homeless animals. Foster parents are fully supported by PPC in the form of medical care, food, and adoption. We often need people to foster kittens that are too young to come into the shelter and to foster puppies/dogs for socialization. We also need fostering for some of our older pets that don't seem to adjust well in the shelter environment. This is limited commitment. Any time an animal can spend in a home helps that animal become more adoptable. This is a wonderful opportunity for those that can't make the full time commitment to a pet or would like to help an animal for a short time frame. If you would like more information about becoming a foster parent for a dog, cat, puppy or kitten, please contact us.

Volunteer: Administrative Assistant Volunteer - Part-time Regulary ScheduledHello!
We are seeking two people to help fill a full-time schedule as an administrative assistant. The volunteers must be available for a specified shift each week, and have their own transportation. We offer free resources to those affected by epilepsy in 10 Tennessee counties and 3 North Georgia counties. Since we are a nonprofit, the workload can sometimes outweigh the staff available. You would be working with me, Rita, to help fill in gaps where I just don't have enough time to take care of some things. I prioritize the clients' needs, so sometimes, other things can be neglected. The volunteers must be able to use Excel at a beginner level, and be detail oriented. Please only answer if you are able to commit to the same schedule every week for at least 3 months. The hours we will need to cover with two volunteers are 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Monday through Friday. Once I hear from you, I will send you a link to a registration form, and a quiz to identify the environment you are happiest working in. Then we will have a chat, and if all goes well, we will get you scheduled to help out! I look forward to hearing from you! Rita Agency: Epilepsy Foundation Southeast Tennessee Hello!

Volunteer: Friendly Visitor for the Guardianship ProgramDo you enjoy spending time with older adults? Can you commit to 2 hours per month? Then this might be your calling. The public guardianship program provides conservatorship to Tennesseans who are unable to manage their own affairs and who have nobody willing and able to act on their behalf. Friendly Visitors assist the public guardianship program by visiting with an assigned client twice a month (or more often if desired by both parties). Volunteers may build a relationship of trust with the client, so that the client feels comfortable to voice any problems or concerns which otherwise may go unnoticed.
Visits with a client can look different as each client has different needs and interests. Volunteers may read to clients, provide company and observe the clients living and health conditions. Volunteers can make a real difference in the lives of seniors, providing both concrete assistance and vital contact, overcoming the isolation and depression often present in older adults. It is possible to volunteer together with a partner for this opportunity. We strive to match volunteers to clients close to their geographic location. Qualifications: Complete the required initial training and sign all required documents. Successfully pass a background screening process. Must have your own transportation to make client visits. Must be able to keep client information confidential. Must be able to complete a short report after each visit to keep conservator in the loop. Required update training: 4 hours annually. Skills necessary to be successful in this role: Have a heart for working with the Elderly, good listening skills, be respectful to the client’s mood and needs, ability to assess an individual’s circumstances based on established criteria.Agency: GNRC Guardianship for the Elderly Program Do you enjoy spending time with older adults? Volunteer: Facilities MaintenanceExchange Place Living History Farm Museum is in need of folks who enjoy maintaining buildings, grounds, and fencing. Exchange Place relies on volunteers to keep the historic site safe and sound for the year 'round residents (sheep, chickens, horses, donkey, and cow) and for visitors to the site. There is always a need for maintaining existing fencing (both barbed wire and historic wooden fencing) and erecting new fencing. In the warmer months, there is always a need for lawn mowers and weed eaters too. And there's plenty of building maintenance to be done the year 'round also. Even an hour or two here and there of your help would be of great benefit to the site.
