United Way of Greater Knoxville is seeking volunteers to support our Community Investments process within our Counties (Grainger, Jefferson, Claiborne and Union). Volunteers help review nonprofit grant applications and make funding recommendations that strengthen our community using a Trust-Based Philanthropy approach. This role offers a meaningful opportunity to learn about local needs, represent donor intent, and help direct resources in Early Care and Education, Economic Mobility, and Healthy Communities.

United Way of Greater Knoxville will review all interested volunteers & our team will reach out with next steps.

Selected volunteers will commit to the following, totaling about 10-15 hours throughout a 3 month term from April - June 2026. 

Counties Review Committee:

Committee Review: 5/22 - 6/12 (reviewed independently/on your own schedule)

Do you find Medicare interesting?

Would you enjoy being a popular resource on all things Medicare for your friends, family and the community?

Then this opportunity is for you! Volunteers with the State Health Insurance Assistance Program (SHIP) will learn how to break up the complicated issue of Medicare into bite size pieces for others and provide assistance to them in choosing the Medicare plans and assistance options (if applicable) that are right for them. You will learn to provide unbiased and accurate information to anyone you assist. 

SHIP Volunteers will be able to give clients peace of mind and can witness first-hand the impact they are making in the beneficiary's life with the information they provide. 

This training is designed for new volunteers to the program. Attendance of all activities are required to become certified as a counselor. The classes will build on each other, so it is important not to miss a session.

For volunteers who'd like to attend events to share Medicare information and do plan comparisons or administrative work for the program but NO direct client counseling there is the option to attend just up to the second-class session.

Any volunteer who would like to be a full counselor will need to attend the full curriculum (all three class sessions as well as participate in the required activities in-between the sessions). Full certification as a counselor requires a minimum of 12 hours of in class training AND additional mentoring thereafter until the volunteer is able to provide counseling on their own. 

Medicare Volunteer Certification Curriculum

Class 1: Thursday, May 7 from 8:30 am to 12:30 pm (virtual via Microsoft Teams)

Class 2: Friday, May 15 from 9:00 am to 1:30 pm (in-person at GNRC's offices)

Class 3: Friday, May 29 from 9:00 am to 1:30 pm (in-person at GNRC's offices)

Part of your training is hands-on experience. You can participate in a variety of different events. The event schedule will be provided during the first session. In addition, we will schedule counseling calls for you to observe. You will be asked to provide your availability to shadow counseling calls between the 2nd and 3rd class.  

We will go over the training schedule with you to determine what level of training and commitment is best for you. Application forms and initial conversation with the Volunteer Manager are required for participation. Volunteers who can be involved regularly usually do best with this type of volunteer opportunity as it is very knowledge based. Please reach out with any questions to Rebecca at rnofi@gnrc.org.

Every year, our Spring Festival brings life, laughter, and families from all over the area to the South Chattanooga Community Center. It is a day our local kids look forward to for months—but to make the magic happen, we need you.

We are currently looking for volunteers for May 7th from 3:00 PM to 6:00 PM. Whether you have the full three hours to give or can only drop by for the second half of the event, your time makes a massive difference. Once you sign up, we will be in touch to see what position and shift interests you!

Shift 1: 3 pm - 4:30 pm

Shift 2: 4:30 - 6 pm

Concessions & Food Service
Machine Operator (Adults Only): Responsible for operating the popcorn and cotton candy machines. Requires following safety guidelines and managing high heat equipment.

Concessions Assistant: Works alongside an adult to hand out light "grab-and-go" food items to families. Keeps the serving stations stocked and ensures napkins and condiments are available for guests.

Fun & Games Crew
Bounce House Monitor: Ensures the safety of children entering and exiting the bounce house. Manages the timer to make sure everyone gets a turn and monitors the number of jumpers at one time.

Game & Craft Station Leader: Manages various carnival-style games or craft tables. Explains the rules to children, distributes craft supplies, and cheers on the participants!

Bike Riding Assistant: Helps coordinate the bike riding area, ensuring participants have helmets and stay within the designated riding boundaries.

Event Support & Logistics
Floater: A flexible role for those who may arrive later in the window. Floaters fill in for breaks, help manage lines, and step in wherever the crowd is largest.

"Final Stretch" Clean-up Crew: While all volunteers help tidy their areas, this crew focuses on the 5:30 PM – 6:00 PM window to break down tables, stack chairs, and ensure the community center is left in great shape.

This is a monthly volunteer opportunity, that occurs on the first Saturday of every month (barring events or unforeseen circumstances), intended to assist park staff with park projects and tasks. Parks projects and task can include: invasive plant removal, trail work, trash clean-up, storm/weather debris clean-up, gardening. Projects or task vary and will be conducted according to need.

If you need to complete community service or volunteer service hours to fulfill a requirement for scholarships, graduation, fraternity/sorority obligations, etc., let us know. If you just want to come out and help us, we would be happy to have you join us.

Volunteers should plan on meeting Ranger Brian Miller at the visitor center at 10:00am CT. Ranger Miller will brief all volunteers on the location in the park where the work will take place and the project/task to be done. Please bring bottled water with you and wear appropriate footwear/attire for the weather. Join park staff to start prepping areas along Mill Creek for River Cane transplanting. Canebrakes once were found throughout the Southeast and are now listed as critically endangered ecosystems. Volunteers can expect to use loppers and hand shears to remove lower and midstory plants to make room for River Cane. Meet at the bathrooms below the Hwy 136 Dam.  Be sure to wear appropriate clothing for days weather conditions. Bring water and snacks to sustain yourself

Do you have a passion for inspiring young girls to be joyful, healthy, and confident? Our end-of-season celebratory 5K event is Saturday, May 9, at Victor Ashe Park, and we need volunteers to make it extra special for over 150 elementary & middle school girls in our community

Join us this year for the 14th annual Mud Run on the day before Mother’s Day, May 9th, 2026!

This event includes over twenty different obstacles, rolling trails on a marked course, and even a dip in the lake!  From Adversity Hill to the Tire Traverse and the A-Frame Climb, runners 8+ years old can sign up to race independently or with a team. Costumes are encouraged and the most creative could even win an award! Vendors, music, and refreshments will be onsite for participants and their fans, friends, and families to enjoy along with the beautiful views. In addition to our 5K course, we will also host our second annual Fun Run for anyone 4+ years old! This Fun Run will take place right after the 5K, will be a bit over a mile long, and will include several of our obstacles! How fun!

The money raised from the event will support Harmony’s therapeutic programming at Camp Montvale which includes our equine therapy program and therapeutic camps for foster and adoptive children and families.

Join Standing Stone State Park staff as we conduct trail maintenance along the Cabin Spur Trail. This will include widening the trail where possible and vegetation management. All equipment and PPE will be provided by the park. Please bring water and snacks and wear clothing appropriate for the weather.   

Our Emerald Force Track Ministry offers an AAU league and Rec league during the summer for 6th grade students through 12th grade students. We are looking for assistant coaches to help with track and/or field.

On May 16, 2026 in Spring City, TN, the Aquarium and its partners will host the Second Annual Laurel Dace Day with a 5k, 10k, Half Mile Fun Run and celebration to support the critically endangered Laurel Dace.

Laurel Dace Day wouldn’t be possible without the generous help from our community members as volunteers. We’ll need help with setting up the races, passing out snacks and water, guiding vendors to booth locations, and more.

The Roane County Fair will be held at RSCC, Harriman Campus, on May 12-17. We will need on-site volunteers to help us manage directions, traffic, vendor/food truck set ups, cleaning, logistics, etc. If you would be interested in helping us during the set-up and open hours of the Fair, please register. We will be providing various shifts and dates. You will not be expected to participate all day, every day! Thank you for your support!

The Operations Planning Committee will be working on the coordination of parking, safety, clean up, directions, volunteer coordination, and other identified needs for the Roane County Fair. This planning committee will meet periodically prior to the opening of the Fair, which will be May 12-17, 2026.

Volunteers in this area will be working together, either through meetings, Zoom meetings, calls, or emails to share ideas and strategies to support the Kid's Zone at the Roane County Fair in May of 2026. This will include free activities, a sensory safe area, exhibits that include hands on experiences, and competitions that might be appropriate for smaller children. Come join the fun and help us provide a fabulous Kid's Zone for the Fair!

Volunteers are needed to help us spread the word about the Fair and call on potential sponsors to help us bring this great event to our County! The proceeds (above costs) from this event will fund Community Impact Programs through the United Way! Join us in this new adventure and be a help to your neighbors in need.

Volunteers are needed to work with potential entertainment inquiries to determine the number of entertainers we can accommodate, create a calendar of events, and ensure all paperwork and requirements are met for entertainment. Selection of stage or area for entertainment and may also be involved in locating "walking around" entertainment ideas.

Work with applicants for product vendors and food trucks to ensure that we highlight our local vendors, and prevent duplication of food products and services, and meet our exclusions agreed to in our contract with the carnival company. May include day-to-day scheduling for food trucks, keeping a spreadsheet for waitlists, if necessary, and communication to vendors with requirements, regulations, or communication that all spots are filled.

This volunteer group will be determining various competitions, that may include the Fairest of the Fair, and community exhibits for the Roane County Fair in May of 2026. This may also include finding judges for specific competitions and setting parameters around competitions. Working with others to judge and rank competitions and exhibits.

Work with other volunteers and staff to market the Roane County Fair in our community and surrounding communities. May include communications with radio and/or tv stations, billboard companies, news outlets, and social media posts. The goal of this group of volunteers is to promote the Fair and reach audiences that would potentially attend the Fair.

Volunteer with Junior Achievement this semester and you will help inspire and prepare young people to succeed in a global economy.

JA programs use hands on learning and fun activities to inspire students. As a JA volunteer you share your personal and professional experiences and help students make the connection between what they are learning in school and what they need to succeed in life and work.

JA provides all the materials, step-by-step instructions and a short but effective orientation. JA programs have been developed to be turn-key and hassle free for you. Volunteer opportunities can be one 3-hour visit or 30-45-minute weekly visits for 5-6 sessions. Volunteer preparation time is about 20 minutes per session.

The Friends of Old Stone Fort will be having a workday starting at 1pm. We will meet at the Museum at Old Stone Fort to begin the day. We will be either removing invasive species, trail work, or working on the boat shed. Please bring gloves, water, and wear sturdy closed toed closed back shoes. The Center for English and Integration Services is a nonprofit organization that provides refugees and other internationals in metro Knoxville with English language life-skills, empowering them toward integration and self-sufficiency.

We are looking for passionate volunteers to join our Childcare Program during summer, caring for our students' children that are from 5 to 12 years old while their parents learn English as a Second Language.

Are you interested in helping maintain one of Frozen Head's remote trails? Then a Volunteer Vacation is the perfect event for you! All camping gear and food will be provided and will be shuttled to the campsite if possible. We will then camp out for 3 nights. We will work from approximately 9AM to 4PM each day, then relax at camp and have fun exploring Frozen Head's remote backcountry. We will focus on the Old Mac loop (North and South Old Mac).

This would be a perfect opportunity for someone looking for more outdoor or job experience, but without the whole summer to commit to an internship. It will also be a great experience to learn about backcountry camping basics and trail maintenance. Anyone is welcome, but spots are limited and must be reserved in advance. Please email Ranger Blake Melancon at blake.melancon@tn.gov with any questions.

One of the most impactful ways to get involved is by becoming an Evaluations and Allocations (E&A) Volunteer with United Way of Bristol.

E&A volunteers are a vital part of the process that helps determine how United Way funds are invested in local programs that support individuals and families in need. Your voice, perspective, and commitment help ensure that the dollars raised in our community are directed to programs making the greatest impact.

As an E&A volunteer, you will:

Gain a deeper understanding of the important work local agencies are doing

Help ensure funds are distributed responsibly and effectively

Collaborate with community leaders and passionate volunteers

Play a direct role in strengthening services for people in need in our community

We know your time is valuable, so the process is designed to be meaningful but manageable:

One-hour training session during the third week of April (date TBD)

Review agency materials at your convenience

Visit four assigned agencies with your team (approximately 1.5 hours per visit) between May 4–15
(Visits are scheduled based on team availability and may extend into the following week if needed.)

Volunteers are placed into teams of 5–7 members, including a team captain. Each team is assigned approximately four local agencies to review.

Before visiting the agencies, volunteers receive all materials electronically, along with guidance on what to look for and questions to consider. Teams then meet with agency representatives to learn more about their programs, review outcomes, and discuss how funding supports their work.

After completing the visits, each team evaluates what they learned and develops a funding recommendation. Team captains present these recommendations, which are then reviewed collectively and submitted to the United Way of Bristol Finance Committee, Executive Committee, and Board of Directors.

The E&A process works best when it reflects the perspectives of our entire community. That’s why we encourage volunteers from local businesses, industry, education, and the community at large to participate.

RED PANDA RUN WATER TABLE VOLUNTEER DESCRIPTION 

Zoo Knoxville is hosting its first ever 5k run on Saturday, May 30th! The Red Panda Run will start in front of the red pandas at the Zoo and travel through Chilhowee Park, including right past Muse. We need volunteers to manage a water table to fill cups of water, hand water to runners, and encourage them as they stop to hydrate. This volunteer is managed by the Vice President of Operations. Any questions or concerns regarding scheduled shifts, hours verification, etc. will be directed to Shelby Cornell at shelby@themuseknoxville.org.  

SCHEDULE: This volunteer opportunity is around 1.5 hours in length. Shifts are scheduled via Give Pulse, Volunteer East Tennessee, or other volunteer recruitment platform.

Requirements: Background check and training

Help us bring some cheer to isolated seniors, seniors in nursing homes and/or disabled individuals in our communities by sending them heartfelt letters, letting them know that we care and haven't forgotten about them.

We are looking for uplifting letters that will bring their recipients some joy!

This month we are looking for Flower Power themed letters and cards. You can incorporate the theme through art, by making your own themed cards and within the message of your letter.

If you are interested in sending letters and/or art to seniors in the community, please sign up below and include in your response (in the notes) how many letters you would like to write. I will contact you with specific instructions for the letters and the address to send them to. Children are welcome to contribute also (an adult is required for minors under 13 to sign up).

 
We are looking to have this round of letters completed and received by their recipients by 05/31/2026. Please allow a couple of days for mailing and distribution. 
 
Volunteers will be required to have their own materials for the letters and any additional artwork you'd like to add, as well as stamps to mail the letters on hand (or you must be able to take them to the post office). I will try my best to provide you with one address for your letters so you can mail them together in a large envelope. 

Please allow 48 hours for me to get back to you with the instructions. 

If you are in need of community service hours, I am happy to confirm your hours for you. Please submit pictures of your letters as proof. We will be tracking and logging the actual time you spent working on the letters/cards and do NOT assign a specific number of letters per hour. Please check with your institution if they have specific requirements of how many letters you need to complete to get your hours approved.

Join us for an educational session about the use of herbicides on our park. Learn how to properly mix, use, and evaluate the effectiveness of herbicides and their use against invasive species. After the learning about herbicides and application methods, get hands-on experience with herbicide use while helping treat our wetland area. This is a perfect opportunity for people looking to build their experience and skills in habitat management.

The Herbicide Workshop will meet at the Wetland Trailhead at 9am on Friday, June 5th. This program will be in coordination with Quail Forever and their habitat management team.

This program requires special eligibility criteria, please visit our website for more information about the program's accessibility needs. Guests will be hiking varied amounts, expect around 1 to 2 miles of hiking.  Guests will need to carry a backpack spray, typically weighing between 20 to 30 lbs.bs when completely full. Accommodations can be made for people unable to carry the backpack sprayer. 

Please wear closed-toed shoes and wear clothing that can get dirty. Please wear long-sleeves and pants. Guests are recommended to bring their own gloves. Any additional safety gear will be provided. 

Participants must register to participate due to liability waiver requirements and a limited number of backpack sprayers.

Do you enjoy spending time with older adults? Help us conduct client satisfaction surveys either in person at nursing facilities near you or via phone surveys to ensure satisfactory service outcomes. 

What are the surveys for? Each year TennCare contracts with state Area Agencies on Aging and Disability to conduct National Core Indicators Surveys with consumers receiving TennCareare services.  The core indicators are standard measures used across states to access the outcomes of services provided to individuals and families. Indicators address key areas of concern including planning, rights, community inclusion, choice, health and care coordination, safety and relationships.  Each year TennCare looks at the results of these anonymous surveys to improve and enhance services to consumers.

Why should I help? Those conducting the surveys are offering consumers and their families a chance to express their opinions about services received, offer suggestions, and make recommendations to enhance their care and quality of life.

What would I be doing? The surveyor role requires individuals to reach out to consumers by phone or by traveling to nursing facilities to administer the surveys. We will coordinate with you to assign locations that are close to you.  The surveyor will read the questions to each individual and record the responses into a database. This requires the ability to use basic computer skills. Each survey should take from 45 minutes to one hour to complete.

Surveyor Training: TennCare requires that all surveyors complete training. The training is in two parts: a series of self-paced online modules (takes about 2 hours to complete), and a 2.5-hour live training with a GNRC staff member. The live webinar trainings will be scheduled as needed.

When can I volunteer? In person surveys can be conducted during regular visiting hours of the nursing homes. Phone surveys can be conducted during the day or in the early evening hours. You can make your own schedule and choose how many surveys you want to complete. The survey period runs from December 8 through June 30th. 

Where would I volunteer? Clients are located all over Middle Tennessee. Training takes place online and volunteers can work via phone from their own home or be assigned to nursing homes close to them.

Next Steps: After you sign up, we will follow up with you on your preference to conduct phone or in-person surveys, preferred locations and training. 

Help us bring some cheer to isolated seniors, seniors in nursing homes and/or disabled individuals in our communities by sending them heartfelt letters, letting them know that we care and haven't forgotten about them.

We are looking for uplifting letters that will bring their recipients some joy!

This month the theme for the letters is "Welcome summer" or "Independence Day" later in the month. You can incorporate the theme through art, by making your own themed cards and within the message of your letter.

If you are interested in sending letters and/or art to seniors in the community, please sign up below and include in your response (in the notes) how many letters you would like to write. I will contact you with specific instructions for the letters and the address to send them to. Children are welcome to contribute also (an adult is required for minors to sign up).

 
We are looking to have this round of letters completed and received by their recipients by 06/30/2026. Please allow a couple of days for mailing and distribution. 
 
Volunteers will be required to have their own materials for the letters and any additional artwork you'd like to add, as well as stamps to mail the letters on hand (or you must be able to take them to the post office). I will try my best to provide you with one address for your letters so you can mail them together in a large envelope. 

Please allow 48 hours for me to get back to you with the instructions. 

If you are in need of community service hours, I am happy to confirm your hours for you. Please submit pictures of your letters as proof. We will be tracking and logging the actual time you spent working on the letters/cards and do NOT assign a specific number of letters per hour. Please check with your institution if they have specific requirements of how many letters you need to complete to get your hours approved.

Younger children are welcome to participate with their parents or a guardian/caregiver.

Do you find Medicare interesting?

Would you enjoy being a popular resource on all things Medicare for your friends, family and the community?

Then this opportunity is for you! Volunteers with the State Health Insurance Assistance Program (SHIP) will learn how to break up the complicated issue of Medicare into bite size pieces for others and provide assistance to them in choosing the Medicare plans and assistance options (if applicable) that are right for them. You will learn to provide unbiased and accurate information to anyone you assist. 

SHIP Volunteers will be able to give clients peace of mind and can witness first-hand the impact they are making in the beneficiary's life with the information they provide. 

This training is designed for new volunteers to the program. Attendance of all activities are required to become certified as a counselor. The classes will build on each other, so it is important not to miss a session.

For volunteers who'd like to attend events to share Medicare information and do plan comparisons or administrative work for the program but NO direct client counseling there is the option to attend just up to the second-class session.

Any volunteer who would like to be a full counselor will need to attend the full curriculum (all three class sessions as well as participate in the required activities in-between the sessions). Full certification as a counselor requires a minimum of 12 hours of in class training AND additional mentoring thereafter until the volunteer is able to provide counseling on their own. 

Medicare Volunteer Certification Curriculum

Class 1: Thursday, August 6 from 8:30 am to 12:30 pm (virtual via Microsoft Teams)

Class 2: Friday, August 14 from 9:00 am to 1:30 pm (in-person at GNRC's offices)

Class 3: Friday, August 21 from 9:00 am to 1:30 pm (in-person at GNRC's offices)

Part of your training is hands-on experience. You can participate in a variety of different events. The event schedule will be provided during the first session. In addition, we will schedule counseling calls for you to observe. You will be asked to provide your availability to shadow counseling calls prior to the start of the cohort. 

We will go over the training schedule with you to determine what level of training and commitment is best for you. Application forms and initial conversation with the Volunteer Manager are required for participation. Volunteers who can be involved regularly usually do best with this type of volunteer opportunity as it is very knowledge based. Please reach out with any questions to Rebecca at rnofi@gnrc.org.

We need outgoing individuals who will reach out to businesses to secure sponsorships and donations, who are organized and "see the job through to the end" and who will work to help plan, execute, and wrap up the event for the Center. Being a Jeep enthusiast is a plus but certainly not required!

Rock Island State Park needs your help! Join us as we clean up the Caney Fork River. Tasks will include cleaning up litter along the Caney Fork River Gorge between Twin Falls and Great Falls. This area is fairly strenuous, rocky, and wet so please plan accordingly.

If you need to complete community service or volunteer service hours to fulfill a requirement for scholarships, graduation, fraternity/sorority obligations, etc., this is a great opportunity to get those hours. Volunteers should plan on meeting Rangers at the Downstream Trail Parking Area at the end of Powerhouse Road at 10:00am. Volunteers will be briefed and given trash bags, trash grabbers, and gloves.

This event will be held on the first Sunday of every month, with the goal of keeping Rocky Fork's trails and creeks free of litter.  Meet Park Ranger Cory Franklin in the campfire interpretive area, we will either go along the road or up Rocky Fork trail in search of litter.

Rocky Fork has the cleanest water of any tributary in the Nolichucky River Watershed. With 2,300 acres of parkland surrounded by 8,000 acres of National Forest.  We aim to keep Rocky Fork pristine and would love to have your help!

Gloves and trash bags will be provided, but feel free to bring your own supplies.

The Roane County Health Council is a non-profit organization that exists to improve the health and well being of Roane County residents by providing access to health care, health education, and disease prevention through community partnerships.

The council holds monthly meetings for volunteers and the general public to discuss community health priorities and to plan activities for health promotion and disease prevention for Roane County.

Once a year, Roane Imagination Library reaches out to members of the community through mailings.  We seek enrollments, we invite people to receptions, we inform folks of special events, and yes, we ask for contributions.

To get a mailing ready for the post office we have an envelope stuffing party in early July.  That is, several people get together around a large table and in assembly line fashion prepare, fold, stuff, stick and lick. 

There is always a lot of laughter, usually fun food, and many new friendships.  Time commitment is about 2 hours.

This could be a great service project for a club.

We would like to develop a list of individuals or groups willing to check their calendars and join us when needed.

Assistance with annual graduation planning events.

Need a volunteer with experience at office and phone procedures to work at the offices front desk when receptionist is out or employees are in meetings.  Usually, length of volunteer time would be for four hours or less. There are some occasions when volunteering a full day is necessary, but not often.

Phone calling to assist fundraising activities would be most helpful during annual Banquet (Spring) and Gala (Fall-Winter).  It would also be helpful of the volunteer has many contacts within the county and is willing to call their contacts to assist in fundraising.

Volunteers are needed in support of preparation for Banquets and Gala events; this could include folding programs, preparing mailings, creating gala boards (arts/crafts) and other activities in event preparation.

Committee Service is usually an ongoing need.

The Red Cross is looking for volunteers who would be interested in serving their local community as a Disasrter Action Team member who would respond to emergency fire calls.  The Red Cross provides assistance to those affected by a disaster by providing emergency shelter, food or clothing when the need exists.

The Mid-East Community Action Agency is looking for volunteers who would like to assist seniors at congregate meals site throughtout Roane County.  This is an excellent opportunity for retired individuals who would like to be with other senior adults.  Duties include handing out meals (all meals are catered, there is no cooking involved), clean-up, and very limited paperwork (ordering meals for the next serving day).  This volunteer opportunity would be for 2 hours per day, and the sites are open Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday.

Do you have a knack for filling out applications and/or grant writing?  You could help make a HUGE impact in Roane County by helping us fill out grant applications.  There are NUMEROUS grants available for application, but we need your help to fill them out!  You can even volunteer for this opportunity from the comfort of your home.

Round About Roane is a volunteer assisted, senior-friendly transportation program for individuals age 60 and older who need transportation to essential trips within Roane County and medical trips only outside of the county.  

Volunteers will pick up enrolled riders, transport them to a destination, stay with the rider to offer assistance, and return the rider home.  Volunteers will have the ability to self-assign rides utilizing a web-based software program or smart phone app.  Mileage reimbursement may be available to volunteer drivers. 

Volunteer drivers must complete an agency background check, and attend all orientations and training prior to being assigned a ride.  Training will be scheduled throughout the year to capture newly enrolled volunteers.

Interfaith Dental's fundraising events are crucial to our being able to give transformational care to the number of patients we see each year. Event Assistants help coordinate one or both of two annual events, by making phone calls, organizing event data, soliciting silent auction and sponsorship donations, preparing mailings, and other duties as assigned by Development Director. 

Troop leaders serve as key role models to girls and are at the center of the Girl Scout movement. Time commitment can vary and the provided training will give you the necessary tools to be a successful troop leader.

FLEXIBILITY
As a leader, you have flexibility in helping the girls take ownership in their activities as a troop. You also have the flexibility to decide when, where and how often your troop will meet.

HAVING FUN
Throughout the year you’ll be able to take your troop to events and activities such as nature conservatories, self-esteem seminars, swimming at camp, ice-skating or the symphony.

RESOURCES
Service Unit meetings allow leaders to exchange ideas for troop activities and stay updated on the opportunities available in your community. Our Volunteer Resource Center has many items available for checkout to make your Girl Scouting activities easier. 

Event volunteers are those who seek the occasional Girl Scout experience. They may help on a monthly or yearly basis, or at other times when extra help is needed. Event volunteers may have a special skill or talent to share. Some include: financial planning, outdoor adventure, college planning, patch and badge earning, community service and many more.

L.E.A.D. is Girl Scouts of Middle Tennessee’s outreach to underserved girls in our community, rural and urban settings.

We’re looking for you… college women, graduate students and professionals to serve as leaders and mentors to underserved girls. The leader’s role is to engage the girls in the provided Girl Scout Curriculum and demonstrate the lifetime benefits of education through mentorship. Girls involved will receive a membership to Girl Scouts and a uniform at no cost. They are given the opportunity to grow and gain quality leadership experiences, give service to the community and engage in outdoor activities.

Additionally, we encourage all of our students and host families to give back to the community in order to bring cultural awareness.

Mentors (Bigs) enjoy spending time with their mentee (Little) in the community. We have children in the Rutherford area waiting for a mentor. 

The decision to become a volunteer mentor is a great one, and an opportunity that will change the life of a young person for the better. We make a difference by creating professionally supported one-to-one matches for kids who want to reach their full potential. But we can't do that without you. Big Brothers Big Sisters of Middle Tennessee offers 4 different mentoring programs, so you can mentor through the program that works best for you! Currently, BBBSMT Community-Based and Sports Buddies programs have resumed in-person programming and match activities while our E-Mentoring and Site Based programs continue to offer programing and match activities virtually.

Our Community-Based program is our core, and what most people think of when they imagine a Big Brother/Little Brother or Big Sister/Little Sister friendship. You will contact the Little and their guardian, and arrange for a time to get together on a weekday evening or during the weekend. Please note that this program is active only while school is in session.

In Site-Based mentoring, Bigs and Littles meet weekly at a consistent time and place throughout the school year.  At the match site, which is the Little’s school, they spend time together doing activities. Matches play games, work on crafts, do shared projects or homework — anything they can do together at their site.

Our Site-Based LGBTQ-Focused program is focused on providing LGBTQ+ youth in Metro Nashville Public Schools with supportive mentors. Mentoring will take place virtually through an app called MentorHub, with the expectation that you’ll maintain regular, weekly contact with your Little for at least one year. Please note that this program is active only while school is in session.

In our E-Mentoring program, you and your Little Brother or Little Sister will meet in person, then communicate online working through a number of structured exercises and surveys throughout the week, from anywhere. Please note that this program is active only while school is in session.

Our Sports Buddies program develops one-to-one mentoring friendships between an adult and a child through participatory and spectator sporting events. Activities are designed to deepen mentoring relationships while supporting self-confidence, goal setting, collaboration, skill development, and healthy lifestyles.

2. Two volunteers will be scheduled, and 1 space is available for a one time make up day. Total 3 volunteers a day.

3. Students will only be re-scheduled one time. Please make every effort to keep your time slot as you agreed to.

4. No partial shifts will be scheduled as the need is Monday - Friday, 1 - 5 pm. Four hour blocks of time are available.

5. Remember, the slot you are volunteering in is for you, and you only. We cannot accommodate you bringing a friend, family member, or significant other. No exceptions.

6. We suggest you store your mobile device when checking in at The Ark. If you have an emergency, we can re-schedule your volunteer slot, once per semester. Those who choose not to store their device and are using it during volunteer time, will be given last opportunity to reschedule for later dates. Time slots are for those who spend the volunteer time completing the posted 'need'.

7. We are not open Saturday or Sunday.

Big Brothers Big Sisters is a youth mentoring agency. We are looking for caring community members that would like to make a real difference in the life of a child in our region who is in need of a friend. 

Park Stewards are vital community members dedicated to enhancing the environmental health, safety, and beauty of Chattanooga’s diverse park system. This includes our neighborhood parks, playgrounds, greenways, trails, and natural areas. By adopting a specific location, stewards provide consistent care, serve as helpful eyes and ears on the ground, and help foster a culture of appreciation and responsible use for our shared outdoor spaces.

Responsibilities: Park Stewards work collaboratively with Chattanooga Parks & Outdoors staff and engage in a range of hands-on activities and observational duties tailored to their assigned site and chosen focus area.

Core responsibilities include:
- Performing light maintenance tasks such as picking up litter and debris, clearing hard surfaces, cleaning park furniture and signs, removing weeds, and trimming overgrown vegetation.
- Assisting with basic horticultural and conservation efforts, including caring for trees/plants, and supporting habitat restoration initiatives.
- Monitoring the condition of park amenities, trails, and natural features, and reporting maintenance needs, damage, or hazardous conditions promptly.
- Serving as a welcoming and approachable representative of Chattanooga Parks, providing general information to visitors and encouraging adherence to park rules and responsible use.
- Observing and reporting unusual or suspicious activity to appropriate staff or authorities.


Focus Areas: While serving as a Park Steward, you will have the opportunity to specialize and concentrate your efforts within one of the following focus areas, aligning your volunteer work with your interests and the specific needs of your adopted site:
- General Park Care: Primarily focused on the upkeep and visitor experience within developed parks, playgrounds, and recreation center grounds.
- Trail & Greenway Care: Primarily focused on the maintenance and accessibility of designated trails and greenways.
- Ecological Stewardship: Primarily focused on conservation activities, habitat support, and care of natural areas, rain gardens, or other environmental assets within the park system.
- Signature Park Ambassador: Signature Park Ambassadors are volunteers who serve as welcoming and knowledgeable representatives of Chattanooga Parks & Outdoors at designated, high-traffic "signature" park locations (Coolidge Park, Renaissance Park, Montague Park/Sculpture Fields, Miller Park, Ross's Landing, Greenway Farm, TN Riverpark, & Warner Park). They act as a friendly human information resource, dedicated to enhancing the visitor experience by providing helpful information about the park, the Department, and Chattanooga as a whole.

Commitment: Park Stewards commit to adopting a specific park site or trail/area section and visiting their assigned location a minimum of two times per month for one year.

Requirements: To serve as a Park Steward, volunteers must meet the following criteria:
- Be at least 18 years old, or 15 years old if accompanied by a supervising adult.
- Successfully pass a background check.
- Possess the ability to work independently while following direction from Parks staff.
- Be comfortable interacting professionally and courteously with the public, other volunteers, and park staff.
- Demonstrate commitment to the mission and goals of Chattanooga Parks & Outdoors.
- Be willing to work outdoors in various weather conditions and on natural terrain.
- Provide their own transportation to and from their volunteer site.
- Wear appropriate outdoor clothing and required closed-toe shoes while volunteering.
- Attend program orientation and any specific training relevant to their chosen focus area and assigned tasks.
- Adhere to all park rules, regulations, and volunteer policies.

Support: Park Stewards are supported by the Parks Maintenance staff and receive guidance and coordination from the Volunteer and Community Engagement Coordinator, who serves as the primary point of contact for volunteers.

Impact: By consistently dedicating their time and effort within their chosen focus area, Park Stewards are fundamental partners in ensuring that Chattanooga's parks, trails, greenways, and natural areas remain beautiful, safe, and accessible for the enjoyment of all residents and visitors, now and for future generations.

The Pet Placement Center is a small facility and we rely on foster homes to be able to help more homeless animals. Foster parents are fully supported by PPC in the form of medical care, food, and adoption. We often need people to foster kittens that are too young to come into the shelter and to foster puppies/dogs for socialization. We also need fostering for some of our older pets that don't seem to adjust well in the shelter environment. This is limited commitment. Any time an animal can spend in a home helps that animal become more adoptable. This is a wonderful opportunity for those that can't make the full time commitment to a pet or would like to help an animal for a short time frame.
