Join us on Saturday, March 28, for a special volunteer day at Duck Island in Warriors Path State Park. As part of the Duck Island Revival Project, we will be working together to dig up and remove invasive plants that threaten the island’s natural habitat. This effort is an important step in restoring native biodiversity and creating a healthier ecosystem for wildlife and visitors. This volunteer day is part of a much larger restoration initiative made possible by Warriors Path State Park, Friends of Warriors Path, and the Iris Fund. Thanks to this support, we will be removing an obsolete tennis court, creating a vibrant pollinator garden, planting native trees, and revitalizing historic picnic areas. These improvements will help us uphold the high standard of care we strive for in Tennessee State Parks and ensure Duck Island remains a beautiful, sustainable space for generations to come. By joining us, you’ll be contributing to a project that truly makes a lasting difference for the park and the community. Breakfast will be provided at 8:30 AM, and work will begin promptly at 9:00 AM. The park will provide all necessary tools for the work, and for safety reasons, participants are not allowed to bring chainsaws or power tools. We encourage everyone to wear sturdy, weather-appropriate clothing suitable for outdoor work and the conditions. Gloves and eye protection are strongly recommended, and please bring plenty of water to stay hydrated. We expect to work for about three hours. This is a great opportunity to make a meaningful impact on the environment while enjoying the beauty of Duck Island. If you have any questions or need more information, please contact Park Ranger Ethan if you have any questions at Ethan.Sane@TN.gov. We look forward to seeing you there! Volunteer: Volunteer Opportunities available to support Bone Marrow Drive***THIS OPPORTUNITY IS EXCLUSIVELY FOR ALSAC AAPI EARG TEAM MEMBERS***
Description
Volunteers are needed to
support 2 Bone Marrow Drives to help increase our global Bone Marrow
Registry. Volunteers will help greet potential donors, explain what is
needed to be done and help the donor execute the process. Training will
be provided in advance of the event.
From Chetna: For clarity into why these events are being held – a close member of my family has been diagnosed with cancer and they need a bone marrow transplant. To get a 100% match this can be 1 in 10,000 or even greater – it is not easy. When we learned this, we realized that there are 1000’s of individuals out there that are looking for a donor and the only way they can get support is if we build the registry with as many people who are willing to be a donor. These donors may not be a match today but someday they could be. Awareness and willingness to support is key. The two events my family is hosting is during Holi Events in our community as this will draw a large volume of people for us to engage. Hosted by: Chetna Vaghela & Family Volunteers are needed for several roles. Date: Monday March 28th Time: 11am to 4 pm Location: ICCT Temple in Eads If you are interested in volunteering please let me know and I will get the full details to you. - Chetna Agency: ALSAC / St. Jude Children's Research Hospital ***THIS OPPORTUNITY IS EXCLUSIVELY FOR ALSAC AAPI EARG TEAM MEMBERS***

Volunteer: Miracle LeagueThe Miracle League removes the barriers that keep children and adults with mental and physical disabilities off the baseball field and lets them experience the joy of America’s favorite pastime. Since the main barriers for the participants arise from the natural grass fields used in conventional leagues, Miracle League teams play on a custom-designed, rubberized turf field that accommodates wheelchairs and other assertive devices while helping to prevent injuries. But it’s more than playing a game. The Miracle League is about making new friends, building self-esteem and being treated just like other athletes. To help the athletes, the Miracle League uses a “buddy” system – pairing each player with an able-bodied peer. The result is a bond that cannot be described. The Miracle League serves children and adults who suffer from any physical or mental disabilities, which causes them to be excluded, whether intentionally or not, from conventional Baseball leagues. Scheduling: Games will begin the week of April 11th - May 16th, We will be hosting a baseball opening day for all of your participants on April 18th at Domtar Park. Games will be scheduled every Saturday at 10am ages 17 and under and 11am ages 18 and above *CareerQuest students interested in physical therapy and special needs would have a blast at this.
