Needs From: Volunteer Tennessee

Join Fall Creek Falls State Park in preserving and protecting our pulic lands. We will be celebrating National Public Lands Day by working on one of our park's most-used trail systems. This event will last three hours on September 26th, 2026. Individuals should expect to have to do some hiking and get dirty. Make sure to bring sturdy shoes, gloves, water, and any other items you might need during the event. 

We will start by looking and listening for birds, then continue to look for other flora and fauna throughout the morning. Participants can also remove invasive species to expand the cedar barren habitat along the trail.

The sixth annual East Knoxville Community Cleanup will be held on Saturday, September 26, 2026 from 9am-12pm. The event base will be at Ashley Nicole Dream Playground, located at 620 Winona Street, Knoxville, TN 37917. 

We will be removing litter from East Knoxville roads, creeks, and parks. We also will have a special partnership with Ijams Nature Center to remove invasive species at Dr. Walter Hardy Park.

Participants of any age are welcome! We look forward to seeing those who live, work, or play in East Knoxville - as well as anyone who wants to lend a helping hand. Thank you for keeping Knoxville beautiful! 

There are four volunteer options: two to sign up as an individual picking up litter, one to remove invasive species, and one to sign up as a group. Please only fill out the section that applies to you.

Groups: Participating groups will send a leader to Caswell Park to pick up supplies and then meet their group at their designated, or assigned neighborhood to pick up litter. Please only sign up as a group if you are wishing to lead your group in your own cleanup area.

The EKCC is rain or shine, but in the case of severe weather, the rain date is Sunday, September 27th. 

Sign ups for groups close on Sunday, September 20th at 11:59 PM. Sign ups for individuals will stay open until filled.

We are having a fund raising event at Harley Davidson this coming September 26, 2026. We need volunteers to grill and serve food during the event. All food and beverages are provided. It is a lot of fun!!!

Trail work Day Come out and give back! Join Ranger Ross for a trail work day. We will be meeting at the Park Visitor Center. We expect to be out of the woods by 3:00pm. Please bring work clothes, hiking boots, a sack lunch and plenty of water. We will be working and hiking so wear sturdy hiking boots. Help Girl Scouts get ready for the upcoming back-to-school recruitment season! We are seeking a detail-oriented volunteer to assist staff by cutting, sorting, and organizing recruitment materials for upcoming events.

Tasks may include:

No previous experience is required. Volunteers should be comfortable using scissors or a paper cutter, following instructions, and completing repetitive tasks with care.

Help us bring some cheer to isolated seniors, seniors in nursing homes and/or disabled individuals in our communities by sending them heartfelt letters, letting them know that we care and haven't forgotten about them.

We are looking for uplifting letters that will bring their recipients some joy!

This month the theme for the letters is "Books and Movies". We encourage you to share about your favorite things to read or watch. You can incorporate the theme through art, by making your own themed cards and within the message of your letter.

We are looking to have this round of letters completed and received by their recipients by 09/30/2026. Please allow a couple of days for mailing and distribution. 

If you are interested in sending letters and/or art to seniors in the community, please click on sign up and include in your response (in the notes) how many letters you would like to write. I will contact you with specific instructions for the letters and the address to send them to.  

Younger children are welcome to participate with their parents or a guardian/caregiver (an adult is required for minors younger than 13 to sign up). 

Volunteers will be required to have their own materials for the letters and any additional artwork you'd like to add, as well as stamps to mail the letters on hand (or you must be able to take them to the post office). I will try my best to provide you with one address for your letters so you can mail them together in a large envelope. 

Please allow 48 hours for me to get back to you with the instructions. 

If you are in need of community service hours, I am happy to confirm your hours for you. Please submit pictures of your letters as proof. We will be tracking and logging the actual time you spent working on the letters/cards and do NOT assign a specific number of letters per hour. Please check with your institution if they have specific requirements of how many letters you need to complete to get your hours approved.

Festival volunteers help keep the event welcoming, organized, and safe. Volunteers support guests, assist with activity stations, help vendors and partners with simple needs, and keep the festival flowing smoothly so families can focus on having a great time.

United Way of Anderson County's annual Day of Caring will be held on Thursday, October 15, 2026! On this day, volunteer teams from various local corporations and community groups will unite to execute service projects across Anderson, Morgan, Scott, and Campbell counties. Our program aligns participating nonprofit organizations with motivated, capable volunteers from the local business community to fulfill essential project needs within these service areas.

Multiple volunteers are need to make this day a success. If you are interested in helping, please respond to this need. Additional information will be provided as the day of the event gets closer.

The Friends of Old Stone Fort will be having a workday starting at 1pm. We will meet at the Museum at Old Stone Fort to begin the day. We will be either removing invasive species, trail work, or working on the boat shed. Please bring gloves, water, and wear sturdy closed toed closed back shoes. Chin Up, Girl is seeking compassionate, dependable, and community-minded volunteers to support Walk It Out for Domestic Violence, a community memorial and survivor walk created to honor survivors, remember lives lost to domestic violence, raise awareness, and connect individuals and families with valuable resources.

This event is about more than walking. It is about showing up with care, dignity, and support for survivors and families impacted by domestic violence. Volunteers will play a meaningful role in helping us create a safe, welcoming, organized, and uplifting experience for every attendee.

Volunteers are needed in all areas of event support, including setup, check-in, registration, vendor assistance, participant support, water and refreshment stations, route support, memorial walk assistance, activity stations, cleanup, and general event hospitality.

Whether you are great at organizing, greeting guests, giving directions, setting up tables, helping vendors, encouraging walkers, or simply bringing positive energy, there is a place for you at Walk It Out.

Event Setup Support
Assist with setting up tables, chairs, signage, vendor areas, registration materials, decorations, and event stations before guests arrive.

Check-In & Registration
Welcome attendees, help with registration, distribute event materials, answer basic questions, and direct guests to the appropriate areas.

Vendor & Community Partner Support
Assist vendors and community organizations with check-in, setup directions, and general event-day questions.

Walk Route Support
Help guide participants along the walk route, provide encouragement, assist with water stations, and help ensure walkers feel supported throughout the experience.

Memorial & Survivor Support Areas
Assist with respectful, compassionate support in memorial or reflection areas. Volunteers in these areas should be comfortable maintaining a calm, sensitive, and trauma-informed presence.

Hospitality & Guest Support
Greet guests, provide directions, answer questions, help with crowd flow, and create a warm and welcoming environment.

Breakdown & Cleanup
Assist with packing up supplies, removing signage, cleaning event areas, and helping leave the space better than we found it

Volunteers may choose one shift or serve the full event day:

Morning Shift: 7:00 AM – 10:30 AM
Afternoon Shift: 10:30 AM – 2:00 PM
Full-Day Shift: 7:00 AM – 2:00 PM

Volunteers should expect an active, meaningful day of service. Some roles may involve standing, walking, lifting light items, helping with setup or cleanup, and interacting with attendees, vendors, community partners, and survivors.

All volunteers are asked to arrive on time for their selected shift and check in with the Chin Up, Girl volunteer team upon arrival.

Volunteers will receive a Chin Up, Girl T-shirt to wear during the event and should wear solid black bottoms. Please dress comfortably and wear shoes appropriate for walking, standing, and assisting outdoors.

This opportunity is a great fit for individuals, students, civic groups, church groups, corporate volunteer teams, sororities, fraternities, service organizations, and anyone who wants to support survivors and help create a caring community experience.

Volunteers should be kind, respectful, flexible, and willing to serve with compassion. Because this event centers domestic violence awareness, we ask all volunteers to be mindful, sensitive, and supportive in their interactions.

By volunteering with Walk It Out for Domestic Violence, you are helping Chin Up, Girl create a space where survivors are honored, victims are remembered, and community members are connected to resources, hope, and support.

Museum of Appalachia, Norris Tennessee – Annual Fall Heritage Days on Thursday & Friday, October 22 & 23, and the following week, Thursday & Friday, October 29 & 30, from 9:00am to 3:00pm.

The Museum's signature educational program includes demonstrations where things are made by hand—corn shuck and apple head dolls, brooms, baskets, butter, fiber arts, powder horns, rugs, soap, lard, and barrels. Blacksmiths, coopers, and woodworkers will showcase their craft, while demonstrations of rail splitting and beekeeping highlight the skills that sustained early Appalachian communities. Traditional musicians and dancers will will add to the atmosphere. Students can also try their hand at interactive activities designed to bring Appalachian history to life. From crosscut sawing and quill-pen writing to spelling bees, candle dipping, and classic games, these experiences offer engaging ways to learn about the daily lives of early settlers. Other highlights include storytelling, folklore and colonial history presentations, old-fashioned schoolhouse lessons, Appalachian music, circle dancing, shape-note singing, and animal encounters. We need volunteers to help make this program a truly memorable experience for children!  Shifts are available, or work an entire day, 8:30am to 3:00 with lunch provided!

We are looking for volunteers to help with the Cha Jazz Fest this year! Oct. 25th 11am-7pm

This will be broken into primarily two shifts:

7:30am-11am for equipment load in/setup

6pm-8:30pm for load out and tear down/clean up

There really isn't much to do when the event gets up and going, but the load in is the shift we usually need the most help with! 

Tasks will include: Carrying tents, chairs, banners, signage, tables, coordinating with vendors, directing people to the festival, and loading out equipment as well. 

Help park staff clean up our annual trunk or treat by taking down decorations, cleaning up litter, and collecting traffic barrels.

We will cancel for inclement weather. However, we will work in light rain/snow and temperatures above freezing.

Join Friends of Short Springs on their workday to clean up our State Natural Area. We will be doing work to the trails so be prepared for all kinds of different things! The Friends of Old Stone Fort will be having a workday starting at 1pm. We will meet at the Museum at Old Stone Fort to begin the day. Help us bring some cheer to isolated seniors, seniors in nursing homes and/or disabled individuals in our communities by sending them heartfelt letters, letting them know that we care, and they have not been forgotten.

We are looking for uplifting letters that will bring their recipients some joy!

This month we are looking for letters or cards around the theme of Gratitude/Thanksgiving. You can incorporate the theme through art, by making your own themed cards and within the message of your letter.

If you are interested in sending letters and/or art to seniors in the community, please sign up below and include in your response (in the notes) how many letters you would like to write. I will contact you with specific instructions for the letters and the address to send them to. Children are welcome to contribute also (an adult is required for minors to sign up).
 
We are looking to have this round of letters completed and received by their recipients by November 30th. Please allow a couple of days for mailing and distribution. If you would like your letters to be received in time for the Thanksgiving holiday, please have them in the mail by November 19th to give our contacts at the facility a few days to distribute the letters.
 
Volunteers will be needing their own materials for the letters and any additional artwork you'd like to add, as well as postage. I will try my best to provide you with one address for your letters so you can mail them together in a large envelope. 

Please allow 48 hours for me to get back to you with the instructions. 

If you are in need of community service hours, I am happy to confirm your hours for you. Please submit pictures of your letters as proof. We will be tracking and logging the actual time you spent working on the letters/cards and do NOT assign a specific number of letters per hour. Help make the Gatlinburg Christmas Parade a magical experience for thousands of spectators! Volunteers assist with parade lineup, participant check-in, staging, guest assistance, banner carrying, judging support, and a variety of behind-the-scenes tasks that bring this beloved holiday tradition to life.

Join us on the First Saturdays of the Month for volunteer opportunities throughout the park.

We will cancel for inclement weather. However, we will work in light rain/snow and temperatures above freezing.

This event will be held on the first Sunday of every month from 2 pm to 4 pm, with the goal of keeping Rocky Fork's trails and creeks free of litter.  Meet Park Ranger Cory Franklin in the campfire interpretive area, we will either go along the road or up Rocky Fork trail in search of litter.

Rocky Fork has the cleanest water of any tributary in the Nolichucky River Watershed. With 2,300 acres of parkland surrounded by 8,000 acres of National Forest.  We aim to keep Rocky Fork pristine and would love to have your help!

Gloves and trash bags will be provided, but feel free to bring your own supplies.

Volunteer who is assisting in hospitality and maintenance functions in the campground and other park operations and facilitates the recreational experience of the state park visitors. Duties may include but are not limited to camper orientation, information dispersal, hanging site tags, cleaning out grills and fire rings, reporting inappropriate activities or potential maintenance hazards, park programming, painting signs, weed whacking, leaf blowing, etc. Host agrees to exercise hospitality towards campers and are visible representatives of the state park during their frequent interactions with the public. Host is required to volunteer for a minimum of 20 hours per week for no more than 9 consecutive months.

Wear sturdy shoes or boots (Please no Open-Toed Sandals), bring work gloves if you have them, and wear clothes that can get dirty/wet. We look forward to seeing you! TN Promise Students welcome!

Help remove trash from the shorelines of Pickwick Lake and other areas of the park.

This is an unsupervised volunteer activity.  Volunteers will stop by the park office on the date they have scheduled to pick up trash collection supplies and tools.  

Help remove invasive privet from Pickwick Landing State Park.

This is an unsupervised activity.  Volunteers will work with a ranger to identify privet and learn removal techniques but will likely be working alone after a brief training.

Volunteer as a member of the Sprout Society at PWLSP!  We'll work on various plant related projects each month all around the park.  We'll have some basic tools and gloves, but feel free to bring your own if you prefer.  We'll post more details about each month's Sprout Society project on social media and in the details on our park website.

The Roane County Health Council is a non-profit organization that exists to improve the health and well being of Roane County residents by providing access to health care, health education, and disease prevention through community partnerships.

The council holds monthly meetings for volunteers and the general public to discuss community health priorities and to plan activities for health promotion and disease prevention for Roane County.

If you just love to clean or garden, we always have a need for help around the office and in our flower bed.  We truly appreciate ALL our volunteers!  Volunteers help to keep overhead costs low-- each pitching in with their special gift!

Once a year, Roane Imagination Library reaches out to members of the community through mailings.  We seek enrollments, we invite people to receptions, we inform folks of special events, and yes, we ask for contributions.

To get a mailing ready for the post office we have an envelope stuffing party in early July.  That is, several people get together around a large table and in assembly line fashion prepare, fold, stuff, stick and lick. 

There is always a lot of laughter, usually fun food, and many new friendships.  Time commitment is about 2 hours.

This could be a great service project for a club.

We would like to develop a list of individuals or groups willing to check their calendars and join us when needed.

Phone calling to assist fundraising activities would be most helpful during annual Banquet (Spring) and Gala (Fall-Winter).  It would also be helpful of the volunteer has many contacts within the county and is willing to call their contacts to assist in fundraising.

Volunteers are needed in support of preparation for Banquets and Gala events; this could include folding programs, preparing mailings, creating gala boards (arts/crafts) and other activities in event preparation.

Committee Service is usually an ongoing need.

The Red Cross is looking for volunteers who would be interested in serving their local community as a Disasrter Action Team member who would respond to emergency fire calls.  The Red Cross provides assistance to those affected by a disaster by providing emergency shelter, food or clothing when the need exists.

The Mid-East Community Action Agency is looking for volunteers who would like to assist seniors at congregate meals site throughtout Roane County.  This is an excellent opportunity for retired individuals who would like to be with other senior adults.  Duties include handing out meals (all meals are catered, there is no cooking involved), clean-up, and very limited paperwork (ordering meals for the next serving day).  This volunteer opportunity would be for 2 hours per day, and the sites are open Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday.

Do you have a knack for filling out applications and/or grant writing?  You could help make a HUGE impact in Roane County by helping us fill out grant applications.  There are NUMEROUS grants available for application, but we need your help to fill them out!  You can even volunteer for this opportunity from the comfort of your home.

Round About Roane is a volunteer assisted, senior-friendly transportation program for individuals age 60 and older who need transportation to essential trips within Roane County and medical trips only outside of the county.  

Volunteers will pick up enrolled riders, transport them to a destination, stay with the rider to offer assistance, and return the rider home.  Volunteers will have the ability to self-assign rides utilizing a web-based software program or smart phone app.  Mileage reimbursement may be available to volunteer drivers. 

Volunteer drivers must complete an agency background check, and attend all orientations and training prior to being assigned a ride.  Training will be scheduled throughout the year to capture newly enrolled volunteers.

Interfaith Dental's fundraising events are crucial to our being able to give transformational care to the number of patients we see each year. Event Assistants help coordinate one or both of two annual events, by making phone calls, organizing event data, soliciting silent auction and sponsorship donations, preparing mailings, and other duties as assigned by Development Director. 

Troop leaders serve as key role models to girls and are at the center of the Girl Scout movement. Time commitment can vary and the provided training will give you the necessary tools to be a successful troop leader.

FLEXIBILITY
As a leader, you have flexibility in helping the girls take ownership in their activities as a troop. You also have the flexibility to decide when, where and how often your troop will meet.

L.E.A.D. is Girl Scouts of Middle Tennessee’s outreach to underserved girls in our community, rural and urban settings.

We’re looking for you… college women, graduate students and professionals to serve as leaders and mentors to underserved girls. The leader’s role is to engage the girls in the provided Girl Scout Curriculum and demonstrate the lifetime benefits of education through mentorship. Girls involved will receive a membership to Girl Scouts and a uniform at no cost. They are given the opportunity to grow and gain quality leadership experiences, give service to the community and engage in outdoor activities.

Mentors (Bigs) enjoy spending time with their mentee (Little) in the community. We have children in the Rutherford area waiting for a mentor. 

The decision to become a volunteer mentor is a great one, and an opportunity that will change the life of a young person for the better. We make a difference by creating professionally supported one-to-one matches for kids who want to reach their full potential. But we can't do that without you. Big Brothers Big Sisters of Middle Tennessee offers 4 different mentoring programs, so you can mentor through the program that works best for you! Currently, BBBSMT Community-Based and Sports Buddies programs have resumed in-person programming and match activities while our E-Mentoring and Site Based programs continue to offer programing and match activities virtually.

Our Community-Based program is our core, and what most people think of when they imagine a Big Brother/Little Brother or Big Sister/Little Sister friendship. You will contact the Little and their guardian, and arrange for a time to get together on a weekday evening or during the weekend. Please note that this program is active only while school is in session.

In Site-Based mentoring, Bigs and Littles meet weekly at a consistent time and place throughout the school year.  At the match site, which is the Little’s school, they spend time together doing activities. Matches play games, work on crafts, do shared projects or homework — anything they can do together at their site.

Our Site-Based LGBTQ-Focused program is focused on providing LGBTQ+ youth in Metro Nashville Public Schools with supportive mentors. Mentoring will take place virtually through an app called MentorHub, with the expectation that you’ll maintain regular, weekly contact with your Little for at least one year. Please note that this program is active only while school is in session.

In our E-Mentoring program, you and your Little Brother or Little Sister will meet in person, then communicate online working through a number of structured exercises and surveys throughout the week, from anywhere. Please note that this program is active only while school is in session.

Our Sports Buddies program develops one-to-one mentoring friendships between an adult and a child through participatory and spectator sporting events. Activities are designed to deepen mentoring relationships while supporting self-confidence, goal setting, collaboration, skill development, and healthy lifestyles.

Spending play time with dogs and/or cats. Walking dogs, playing with dogs and cats. Brushing or bathing dogs. Brushing cats. Light maintenance of pet areas might include: mopping up dog accidents, scooping cat litter, sweeping, and light yard duties.

1. We will only be able to accommodate 2-3 student volunteers each day.

2. Two volunteers will be scheduled, and 1 space is available for a one time make up day. Total 3 volunteers a day.

3. Students will only be re-scheduled one time. Please make every effort to keep your time slot as you agreed to.

4. No partial shifts will be scheduled as the need is Monday - Friday, 1 - 5 pm. Four hour blocks of time are available.

5. Remember, the slot you are volunteering in is for you, and you only. We cannot accommodate you bringing a friend, family member, or significant other. No exceptions.

6. We suggest you store your mobile device when checking in at The Ark. If you have an emergency, we can re-schedule your volunteer slot, once per semester. Those who choose not to store their device and are using it during volunteer time, will be given last opportunity to reschedule for later dates. Time slots are for those who spend the volunteer time completing the posted 'need'.

7. We are not open Saturday or Sunday.

The Pet Placement Center is a small facility and we rely on foster homes to be able to help more homeless animals. Foster parents are fully supported by PPC in the form of medical care, food, and adoption. We often need people to foster kittens that are too young to come into the shelter and to foster puppies/dogs for socialization. We also need fostering for some of our older pets that don't seem to adjust well in the shelter environment. This is limited commitment. Any time an animal can spend in a home helps that animal become more adoptable. This is a wonderful opportunity for those that can't make the full time commitment to a pet or would like to help an animal for a short time frame. If you would like more information about becoming a foster parent for a dog, cat, puppy or kitten, please contact us.

The Salvation Army is always looking for volunteers to help prepare products for sale in our Family Store. Volunteers will help with the receiving, sorting, tagging, stocking, and rotation of merchandise donated by the general public for sale in our store.

The Salvation Army serves a noontime meal seven days per week and is always looking for volunteer groups and individuals to serve in our Community Kitchen. Volunteers may help with food prep, serving, cleaning and will have the opportunity, as desired, to interact with our guests.
