The Literacy Council of Kingsport is looking for patient and enthusiastic volunteers to serve as children’s reading tutors for our in-school reading program. Volunteers work one-on-one with elementary students in grades K–3 who need extra support in reading. Our tutors focus on building reading comprehension, vocabulary, decoding skills, and—just as importantly—self-esteem and confidence. What You’ll Do as a Children’s Tutor:Work one-on-one with a student during the school day in a local elementary school. Help children build key reading skills using structured materials. Encourage and support young readers as they grow and gain confidence. Time Commitment:Sessions are 30–60 minutes, once or twice per week. Scheduling is during school hours. Qualifications:No teaching experience is required—just a love for reading and a desire to help children succeed. Volunteers must be willing and able to pass a background check. (The Literacy Council covers the cost.) Must be at least 21 years old. Key ResponsibilitiesTransport & Spread Mulch: Load wheelbarrows with wood mulch and transport it to designated playground impact zones, tree rings, and landscaping beds.
