Intake – Calls clients that have called in for financial assistance. Directs them through the needs assessment process and document submission requirements. 

The Joy of Music School holds Board Meetings from noon to 1pm on the third Wednesday of every other month throughout the calendar year. Our first meeting of 2026 will be on Wednesday, January 21st. We are looking for a volunteer receptionist to answer phones and let visitors in to the school during those six meetings. It is a light duty position. 

The Miracle League removes the barriers that keep children and adults with mental and physical disabilities off the baseball field and lets them experience the joy of America’s favorite pastime. Since the main barriers for the participants arise from the natural grass fields used in conventional leagues, Miracle League teams play on a custom-designed, rubberized turf field that accommodates wheelchairs and other assertive devices while helping to prevent injuries. But it’s more than playing a game. The Miracle League is about making new friends, building self-esteem and being treated just like other athletes. To help the athletes, the Miracle League uses a “buddy” system – pairing each player with an able-bodied peer. The result is a bond that cannot be described. The Miracle League serves children and adults who suffer from any physical or mental disabilities, which causes them to be excluded, whether intentionally or not, from conventional Baseball leagues.

Scheduling: Games will begin the week of April 11th - May 16th, We will be hosting a baseball opening day for all of your participants on April 18th at Domtar Park.   Games will be scheduled every Saturday at 10am ages 17 and under and 11am ages 18 and above

BEER & BLOOMS EVENT VOLUNTEER DESCRIPTION 

Muse Knoxville isn’t just for kids! Our annual Beer & Blooms event is one of two 21+ events hosted by Muse Knoxville. Beer & Blooms Event Volunteers help to execute a successful and fun event. Attendees get to explore the museum, visit different beer tasting stations, interact with volunteer-led activity tables, enjoy food and drinks, and build a plant terrarium. This volunteer is managed by the Vice President of Operations and the Events and Merchandise Manager. Any questions or concerns regarding scheduled shifts, hours verification, etc. will be directed to Shelby Cornell at shelby@themuseknoxville.org.  

*Volunteers must be 21 years of age or older on the day of the event. Valid photo IDs are required and will be checked by the Events and Merchandise Manager prior to check-in.*

The Museum of Appalachia, a Smithsonian Affiliate, welcomes students and families to celebrate the arrival of spring and the rich cultural heritage of the region with their annual Sheep Shearing Days, Friday, April 24th, and Friday, May 1st from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.

For early Appalachian farmers, sheep shearing was an important springtime ritual. After a winter of growth, sheep were sheared so their wool could be cleaned, carded, spun into yarn, and woven into clothing, blankets, and other household goods. Sheep Shearing Days gives visitors a chance to see this traditional process firsthand and learn how wool moved from pasture to finished product in the pioneer era.

The event will feature dozens of additional pioneer demonstrations including dollmaking, broom making, coopering, wood carving, quilting, and beekeeping. Interactive activities for kids include spelling bees, painting, an animal meet-and-greet, shape-note singing, storytelling, and more. The event will also feature live bluegrass music, on-site food options, and a self-guided tour of the museum itself. The Museum of Appalachia is home to three-dozen historic log structures, exhibit halls brimming with thousands of authentic Appalachian artifacts, working gardens, and farm animals.

Volunteer to help Dunbar Cave State Park where needed while earning hours towards Tennessee Promise eligibility requirements.

Service hours can be completed over multiple volunteer days.

Reach out to coordinator to find out what opportunities are available. 

Our volunteers work out of our Maryville warehouse in the Product Recovery area or our Repack Clean Room where we process donated and bulk food for distribution, to help feed our East Tennessee neighbors.

Volunteers also help in non-food project support roles such as cleaning, letter stuffing, and miscellaneous admin duties. 

No experience necessary! Training will be provided on-site at the beginning of the shift.

The Anderson County Family Justice Center is looking for a friendly, kind-hearted, and professional individual who wants to give back to the community! The person in this role needs to be comfortable working with victims of domestic violence, sexual assault, elder abuse, and human trafficking. Must be willing to complete a background check, drug screen, and any required trainings.

ReLAUNCH is in need of volunteers 18 years of age and older to help us serve the homeless Under the Bridge (the Day Space*). You can check in at the KARM Courtyard which is located at 408 N. Broadway, and the Day Space, located under the I-40 overpass and Broadway.

The address is 408 N Broadway, Knoxville, TN 37917. Parking is available but limited in the KARM parking area. We can provide you with a ReLAUNCH Staff placard for your windshield/dashboard when you arrive.

Close-toed shoes are a must. Please dress appropriately, while long pants or sweats are preferred, but on hot days, shorts are acceptable. Remember, the Day Space can be rough place, so bear this in mind when dressing for your volunteer shift.

*The Day Space is considered a "Safe Use" area. During your volunteer shift, you may see active drug use.

**Duties may vary based on need and availability. Some of this service will include trash pickup in the Day Space, sorting donations, etc., if another agency is serving meals in place of ReLAUNCH.

***Please wear close-toed shoes as the Day Space may contain sharp objects.

This is a great opportunity for volunteers to serve close to home- in their own community. Our truck and staff will arrive with food and volunteers will work together to assist in the distribution of the food items to those in need. Volunteers must be able to stand for the duration of shift, as well as lift, bend and carry boxes to vehicles.

This food distribution is outdoors, please plan to dress according to the weather.

Exhibit Floor & Makespace Support volunteers at Muse Knoxville work alongside our Guest Experience team to help facilitate discovery, exploration and play with our exhibit spaces and programming, while helping to maintain a clean and safe space for all. Engage with children and families on the exhibit floor by interacting with them in our exhibit spaces

Help maintain museum safety and cleanliness by sanitizing individual toys and surfaces with bleach solution

Pick up toys and exhibit items and return them to their proper place

Be aware of your surroundings and let a staff member know if you see something unsafe, witness an injury, or see a lost child or a parent looking for a lost child

Communicate any items needed on exhibit floor to a staff member (Makespace supplies, Draw Alive copies, etc.)

Answer questions from guests as applicable and/or direct them to the nearest staff member

Facilitate Daily Discovery activity table as directed by staff

Complete other tasks as assigned by staff including but not limited to cutting Draw Alive copies, sharpening pencils for Draw Alive and Makespace, replacing zip ties on Zip Tie Car Wash, cutting out and laminating items for homeschool and camp programming, sanding and painting blocks for Norilla exhibit, and organizing staff kitchen

Complete outdoor tasks as assigned by staff based on availability and need including but not limited to pulling weeds, spreading mulch, leaf blowing, painting, etc. 

In Makespace exhibit area:

Monitor children and ensure the safe use of the hot glue guns

Facilitate creativity and discovery by asking questions, encouraging children, and helping them find supplies

Restock supplies if bins are low or empty

Clean off tables and surfaces

Sweep the floor often and before the end of your shift

Chattanooga Room in the Inn thrift store volunteers play a vital role in supporting our mission by assisting with donations, organizing merchandise, and creating a welcoming experience for every customer who walks through the door. Each shift helps generate critical funding that directly supports women and children experiencing homelessness in our community.

Our thrift store is open Tuesday - Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., and volunteers have the flexibility to choose both their start time and the length of their shifts within those hours.

Interested volunteers will need to complete a Chattanooga Room in the Inn volunteer application, upload a valid ID and attend an orientation. Once submitted through iHelp, CRITI's Volunteer Coordinator Libby Preston will follow up with next steps.

The Salvation Army is seeking individuals to help serve dinner for residents in our shelters. 

Volunteers serve food from a cafeteria-style serving line and assist with other kitchen duties, as needed.  Kitchen duties can include sweeping, cleaning and disinfecting tables and/or rinsing dishes.  

Once you sign up for a shift, your volunteer shift is confirmed.

If you are volunteering as part of a group, each person in the group must sign up to volunteer separately.

Arrival time, parking, entry, and attire:

Please arrive at our Knoxville Area Command at 409 N Broadway, Knoxville, TN no later than 11:15 pm. You may park anywhere. Enter the main building facing Broadway building through our main entrance (second entrance on the front side of the building between the flag pole and playground). Let the receptionist know you are there to volunteer. You will be directed where to go once you check in at the front desk. 

If you are volunteering on a date when the main office is closed, please walk around the back of the main building to the kitchen entrance which is the last door on the raised patio.

Volunteers should wear long pants and closed-toed shoes. Attire should also be appropriate and not include profanity, low-cut tops, or excessively short dresses or shorts.

Be sure to sign in on the volunteer sign in sheet found in the kitchen.

Senior Ride Nashville is growing our volunteer driver team! Drivers use their own vehicles to transport seniors to community centers, medical appointments, grocery stores, beauty/barber shops and more. Help a senior get where they need to go and make a friend in the process! Volunteer shifts are flexible and scheduled at your convenience using an easy online tool. SRN provides rides Monday-Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

It is Senior Ride Nashville’s mission to enrich the lives of older adults and engage them in the community by providing affordable and assisted transportation.

Bridge Refugee Services, Inc.'s mission is to provide opportunities for refugees to rebuild their lives after suffering persecution so that they may become productive, contributing members of the community. Bridge Refugee Services offers support to over 400 refugee clients in the greater Knox Co. area, and we cannot do this without community support.

Recent changes in federal law have significantly limited food assistance for our newest neighbors, leaving many refugee families facing food insecurity.  At Bridge Refugee Services, we are committed to fighting against food insecurity for the refugee neighbors we serve.  We invite local partners and volunteers to help us combat food insecurity.  We need volunteers to help us receive incoming food donations, weigh and record the donations, pack food boxes for distribution, and take food boxes out to vehicles.

Help us provide our refugee families culturally familiar, nourishing food!

Join us in supporting students and families by helping stock, organize, and distribute essential pantry items. As a Food Pantry Volunteer, you’ll play a vital role in creating a welcoming, dignified space where every child’s basic needs are met with care and respect. Responsibilities include: Sorting and shelving donated food and hygiene items , assembling care packages or student snack bags, assisting with pantry inventory and restocking, helping during distribution days with setup, greeting families, and cleanup.

The Bilingual Language Ambassadors program is an opportunity for volunteers to create a welcoming and inclusive environment for our diverse families at Community Schools Family Engagement Events. This program will serve as a meaningful catalyst to deepen the relationships Community Schools fosters with non-English speaking families. Our goal is to build strong long-term connections and empower families by ensuring they feel seen and heard.  

We encourage students and community members to serve as Bilingual Language Ambassadors to help us grow our mission. The language(s) we are recruiting for are Spanish, Akateco, and Kirundi.

Volunteer roles will be assigned the day of the event upon arriving.  If you have a strong preference for a specific role, please notate that on your sign up.  Please wear comfortable shoes.  Vest and badges will be provided to you.

Snacks and water will also be provided for volunteers during the event.  Feel free to bring a refillable water bottle.  Lunch will be provided for volunteers immediately following the event!  Please plan to stay a few minutes afterwards to share a closing, celebratory meal together!

The Salvation Army is seeking individuals to help serve dinner for residents in our shelters. 

Volunteers serve food from a cafeteria-style serving line and assist with other kitchen duties, as needed.  Kitchen duties can include sweeping, cleaning and disinfecting tables and/or rinsing dishes.  

Once you sign up for a shift, your volunteer shift is confirmed.

If you are volunteering as part of a group, each person in the group must sign up to volunteer separately.

Arrival time, parking, entry, and attire:

Please arrive at our Knoxville Area Command at 409 N Broadway, Knoxville, TN no later than 4:15 pm. You may park anywhere. Enter the main building facing Broadway building through our main entrance (second entrance on the front side of the building between the flag pole and playground). Let the receptionist know you are there to volunteer. You will be directed where to go once you check in at the front desk. 

If you are volunteering on a date when the main office is closed, please walk around the back of the main building to the kitchen entrance which is the last door on the raised patio.

Volunteers should wear long pants and closed-toed shoes. Attire should also be appropriate and not include profanity, low-cut tops, or excessively short dresses or shorts.

Be sure to sign in on the volunteer sign in sheet found in the kitchen.

Chin Up, Girl is seeking enthusiastic and compassionate volunteers for our Chin Up, Girl x WellPoint Mother’s Day Self Care Boutique on Saturday, May 9th at Patterson Park Community Center in Murfreesboro.

This free community event will serve approximately 150–200 women and families with clothing, self-care products, maternal resources, mini yoga sessions, wellness education, and professional Mother’s Day portraits.

On Saturday, May 2 from 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM the Appalachian Trail Conservancy is partnering with the Southern Appalachian Highlands Conservancy (SAHC), Roan Mountain State Park, and the Cherokee National Forest to remove invasive garlic mustard around the Appalachian Trail and TN Highway 143 through the park and Forest Service lands.  This event will meet and end at the Roan Mountain State Park Conference Center located at 1015 Highway 143; Roan Mountain, TN. 37687.

All are invited to join us for a fun day of helping to protect the natural habitats and biodiversity found in the A.T. landscape - no experience needed. Plucking out the pesky invaders when they are young is relatively easy and very rewarding work, but it does take a lot of hands! You also might get to see spring wildflowers that are able to grow in the area, thanks to the hard work of volunteers who pulled garlic mustard in the past.

Schedule:

9:00 AM to 9:15 AM - Introduction, safety talk, etc. Volunteers will be briefed, divided into groups, and dispersed across the Park and along public roadsides to pull garlic mustard. There will need to be some shuttling and driving of personal vehicles to make this happen.

9:15 AM to 1:00 PM – Pulling and bagging up garlic mustard!

Food/Drinks: Please bring your own snacks, lunch, and bottled water. Lunch is not provided. Water and light snacks are available from the Conference Center vending machines.

Equipment/Precautions: Work gloves and trash bags will be provided. Feel free to bring personal gloves or a trowel. Pulling garlic mustard is usually easy, but a trowel can be helpful for compacted roadside soil and stubborn roots.

You will need: A hat and/or sunscreen, long pants, sturdy shoes, lunch, water, a warm layer for high elevation hiking, and rain gear. If you are allergic to poison ivy or insects, consider wearing long sleeves and pants as a precaution.

Note: It may be difficult to return to your car while we are working, so bring a bag to keep your items with you throughout the day. Some work sites are very steep. Please let us know in the morning, if you prefer to work on flatter terrain or have medical conditions. First aid kits will be on site.

Spring Hill Elementary has a vegetable garden as well as a native garden space that teachers and students use afterschool. Teachers are interested in using these spaces for their classes during the daytime, but need some adjustments to be made for the space to be accessible for an entire class. We will be installing new pathways and plantings in both the native garden and the front landscaping area, and may engage in other miscellaneous tasks. Please make sure to wear closed-toe shoes and clothes you are willing to get dirty!

Join us for "What Daisies Do," a fun and engaging drop-in event designed especially for girls entering Kindergarten and 1st grade next school year who are new to Girl Scouts!

Volunteers will lead a hands-on experience for future Daisies to explore all the exciting things Girl Scouts do through interactive activity stations. Girls will get to express their creativity at a Self-Portrait coloring station, discover the night sky while creating their own constellations at Twinkle, Twinkle, All the Stars, and tap into their imagination in our "Make Something Old New" makerspace. Nature lovers can become Tree Detectives with leaf rubbings, while budding artists can build confidence step-by-step at our Instant Courage drawing station.

This drop-in style event allows families to come and go at their convenience while exploring stations at their own pace. Along the way, caregivers can connect with council staff, learn about Girl Scout opportunities, and see how their girl can begin her journey as a Daisy-building courage, confidence, and character while making new friends.

This event is open to new (extended year membership) or non-member families only, making it the perfect introduction to Girl Scouts in a welcoming, low-pressure environment.

Come see what Daisies do by leading an interactive station based on our programming.

YWCA's Powerhouse in Glade Spring will be hosting a community baby shower at Glade Spring Middle School on Saturday May 2nd. This is to provide much needed baby items for anyone expecting or who has had a baby in the last year within our community. We need volunteers to help set up for the event, be present at each table throughout the event, and to assist with teardown/cleanup.

Bartenders for the night needed- We are seeking volunteers to assist with ID checks, beer sales, and tent management for the United Way beer tent at the May 2 Summer Session Concert at Bissell Park.

Outlandish Adventure Festival is a festival to celebrate Knoxville, TN's outdoors!  It's an outdoor adventure packed with live music, daring spectacles, and the untamed beauty of Knoxville's trails, rivers, and wild spaces.  Go over the moon and into the woods with Outlandish at Ijams Nature Center!

Volunteers can come and enjoy the festival before or after their volunteer shift.

This is a large scale event and will be broken down into shifts.

The RecSports department at the University of Tennessee is looking for volunteers to help on the day of our 5K.

Join us once a month to help out in various ways around the park. Each month we will be having a different opportunity so be sure to check back for updates. Please be sure to wear the proper clothing for the project of the month and always bring water.

May 2nd - Help beautify our park by planting native plants around one or more benches. Meet at the visitor center at 9am.

The Children's Museum of Memphis would love for you to volunteer with us during the spring. This would be a weekend shift, and the focus would be on gallery support and programs. Some of the programs would include coding, sensory play, story time, and some pop-up activities. 

If you are under the age of 18, we require that you fill out a guardian permission form first.  Anyone who is above 17 will need to go through a background check. This can take weeks for us to get. No one is able to start volunteering until we have the documents. Please email Paige.whipp@cmom.com for the documents.

If anyone shows up without the required information, you will not be able to volunteer with us and will get sent home.

The Miller Farmstead is on the National Register of Historic Places because it represents the history of Appalachian subsistence farming. The farm features an early 20th century farmhouse and outbuildings, a (retired) horse, chickens, native and ornamental gardens, orchard, and composting operations.

This month, we will need general assistance with a variety of projects, including:

Camp Assistant volunteers at Muse Knoxville work alongside our Education staff to help facilitate a fun, safe, and educational experience for Camp Muse kids. This volunteer is managed by the Vice President of Operations, the Education Manager, and the Director of Education and Exhibits. REQUIREMENTS: After you register for a Camp Muse shift, you will receive an email from Trusted Employees within 72 business hours. You must complete the background check, at no cost to you, prior to one week before your scheduled shift or else you cannot volunteer.

Engage with Camp Muse kids and Education staff during the classroom lessons and activities, helping kids as needed with the activity, passing out materials, prepping activity stations, helping to clean up, and monitoring the behavior of the Camp Muse kids

Assist with lunch time by helping to open any containers, monitoring Camp Muse kids for safe behavior while eating, and assisting with clean up after they are done eating

At the Connection Center we have multiple ministries that give back to the community through volunteer-led support. Our ministries include:  a food pantry, day center for people experiencing homelessness, connection partnership, and legal advocates. We offer an orientation to learn about all of our ministries on the first Wednesday of every month at noon in our North Conference room. Come see where you can get connected in serving your community! 

Interested in learning to work with birds of prey?  Join Roan Mountain State Park for a series of volunteer workdays with Park Ranger Phil Hylen and our park owls: Shiloh and Sunshine.  Volunteers will help the park to clean owl cages, complete minor aviary maintenance, and assist with the care of the owls (obtaining weights, checking housing conditions, and learning their stories to educate the public).  Each shift will begin by meeting Ranger Phil at the Park Headquarters building to sign in and brief for the shift.  While 3 volunteers will help to clean, a handler will be present to work with the owls directly and train cleaners on skillsets necessary to work directly with the owls.      

Shifts vary on time and the maximum number of volunteers.  We will be trying to conduct two volunteer days per week to allow for more enrichment time with the owls and volunteers.  

This is the best choice for any Community Service Volunteers who need many hours!

Volunteers help review nonprofit grant applications and make funding recommendations that strengthen our community using a Trust-Based Philanthropy approach. This role offers a meaningful opportunity to learn about local needs, represent donor intent, and help direct resources in Early Care and Education, Economic Mobility, and Healthy Communities.

Would you enjoy being a popular resource on all things Medicare for your friends, family and the community?

Then this opportunity is for you! Volunteers with the State Health Insurance Assistance Program (SHIP) will learn how to break up the complicated issue of Medicare into bite size pieces for others and provide assistance to them in choosing the Medicare plans and assistance options (if applicable) that are right for them. You will learn to provide unbiased and accurate information to anyone you assist. 

SHIP Volunteers will be able to give clients peace of mind and can witness first-hand the impact they are making in the beneficiary's life with the information they provide. 

This training is designed for new volunteers to the program. Attendance of all activities are required to become certified as a counselor. The classes will build on each other, so it is important not to miss a session.

For volunteers who'd like to attend events to share Medicare information and do plan comparisons or administrative work for the program but NO direct client counseling there is the option to attend just up to the second-class session.

Any volunteer who would like to be a full counselor will need to attend the full curriculum (12 hours of class sessions). Additional mentoring will be provided until the volunteer is able to provide counseling on their own. 

Medicare Volunteer Certification Curriculum

Class 1: Thursday, May 7 from 8:30 am to 12:30 pm (virtual via Microsoft Teams)

Class 2: Friday, May 15 from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm (in-person at GNRC's offices)

Part of your training is hands-on experience. You can participate in a variety of different events. The event schedule will be provided during the first session. In addition, we will schedule counseling calls for you to observe. Please be ready to provide your availability for shadowing counseling calls.

We will go over the training schedule with you to determine what level of training and commitment is best for you. Application forms and initial conversation with the Volunteer Manager are required for participation. Every year, our Spring Festival brings life, laughter, and families from all over the area to the South Chattanooga Community Center. It is a day our local kids look forward to for months—but to make the magic happen, we need you.

We are currently looking for volunteers for May 7th from 3:00 PM to 6:00 PM. Whether you have the full three hours to give or can only drop by for the second half of the event, your time makes a massive difference. Once you sign up, we will be in touch to see what position and shift interests you!

Concessions & Food Service
Machine Operator (Adults Only): Responsible for operating the popcorn and cotton candy machines. Requires following safety guidelines and managing high heat equipment.

Concessions Assistant: Works alongside an adult to hand out light "grab-and-go" food items to families. Keeps the serving stations stocked and ensures napkins and condiments are available for guests.

Fun & Games Crew
Bounce House Monitor: Ensures the safety of children entering and exiting the bounce house. Manages the timer to make sure everyone gets a turn and monitors the number of jumpers at one time.

Game & Craft Station Leader: Manages various carnival-style games or craft tables. Explains the rules to children, distributes craft supplies, and cheers on the participants!

Bike Riding Assistant: Helps coordinate the bike riding area, ensuring participants have helmets and stay within the designated riding boundaries.

Event Support & Logistics
Floater: A flexible role for those who may arrive later in the window. Floaters fill in for breaks, help manage lines, and step in wherever the crowd is largest.

"Final Stretch" Clean-up Crew: While all volunteers help tidy their areas, this crew focuses on the 5:30 PM – 6:00 PM window to break down tables, stack chairs, and ensure the community center is left in great shape.

Join Roan Mountain State Park Ranger Phil Hylen on Thursday, May 7th to help plant native vegetation (sedges and wildflowers) around 2 ponds that were rebuilt in 2025 to restore critical habitat for the Hagan's Bluet Damselfly and the American Emerald Dragonfly (along with many other creatures that benefit from this habitat).  This event will take place starting at the Miller Farmstead Parking Lot from 9:00AM-12:00PM EST.  Volunteers will work in pairs to drill holes for planting the native plant plugs into and then water them in. 

The park will provide work gloves and tools for the day.  Snacks and water will be available, but be sure to bring plenty of water and good work clothes/shoes.  This workday will be limited to 10 volunteers.  

Beaumont Magnet Academy provides weekly food bags for students who need food support over the weekends.  These bags contain easy to make food and snacks, as well as fresh produce ensuring that kids have food when school is not in session.  Glen Oak Missionary Baptist Church packs the nonperishable items from Second Harvest for us.  Beardsley Farm and the Rotary Club of Knoxville add the fresh produce to the bags 1-2 times a month.

To make this process work, we need help!  We need volunteers to transport our food bags from Glen Oak Missionary Baptist Church to Beaumont Magnet Academy or to Beardsley Farm on the weeks they will be adding produce.

Volunteers will pick up the food bags in the morning and drop them off at BMA or Beardsley Farm depending on the week.  We usually have approximately 100 to 130 bags.  Rolling bins are available to move items to and from your vehicle at each location.  

I will reach out to you to let you know if you will be delivering to the school or to Beardsley Farm.  Dates for Beardsley Farm will be confirmed by beginning of September.  First Beardsley Farm date is 9/18.

Bledsoe Creek State Park added a pollinator garden in 2019 with the support of Friends of Bledsoe Creek State Park and a grant from the Iris Fund. With careful selection of native perennials and self seeding annuals this area has flourished. Located adjacent to the Visitor Center, it serves as a wildlife habitat, educational tool and visual interest for passersby. In every season there are tasks we can use volunteer assistance with to maintain the pollinator garden! In the spring we apply mulch and soil amendments if needed. During the summer and fall we'll be weeding and ensuring the plant markers are visible. In the winter we will put the garden to bed being careful to maintain a habitat for pollinators to overwinter. This is a family-friendly opportunity appropriate for all ages!

Our school food pantry provides essential support to families by offering fresh produce, shelf‑stable groceries, and household necessities each week. This work ensures that every child in our community has access to the nourishment they need to learn, grow, and thrive. To keep our pantry running smoothly, we rely on volunteers to help unload and organize deliveries. These deliveries often include boxes of canned goods, cases of produce, and bulk items that require moderate to heavy lifting. Volunteers should be comfortable lifting up to 10 pounds and spending some time outdoors while trucks are being unloaded. Your support makes an immediate impact—helping us move food quickly and safely so families can access what they need without delay. Maynard Elementary School is hosting their annual School Carnival! The Carnival is held in the MES parking lot and serves as a fun end of year event for all members of the Mechanicsville community. 

Volunteers are needed to help assist in the following areas:

- set up (tables, trash cans, etc.)

- tear down (tables, trash cans, etc.)

- face painting

- applying temporary tattoos

- serving food at the food table

- overall flow of event

Dress code is casual, as it will be outside, but please wear closed toe shoes! Parking will be available on all streets surround the school (College St., Danny Mayfield park perimeter, UT  Foundation parking lot, UT Institute parking lot). 

This is a monthly volunteer opportunity, that occurs on the first Saturday of every month (barring events or unforeseen circumstances), intended to assist park staff with park projects and tasks. Parks projects and task can include: invasive plant removal, trail work, trash clean-up, storm/weather debris clean-up, gardening. Projects or task vary and will be conducted according to need.

Join park staff to start prepping areas along Mill Creek for River Cane transplanting. Canebrakes once were found throughout the Southeast and are now listed as critically endangered ecosystems. Volunteers can expect to use loppers and hand shears to remove lower and midstory plants to make room for River Cane.
