Assistive Technology (AT) Services, a program of Signal Centers, is dedicated to eliminating barriers for clients by helping them navigate a tech-driven world as independently as possible. Assistive technology is any tool used to increase independence or improve quality of life for people who have a disability. 

On the last Monday of each month, we welcome volunteers to our Adapt-a-Toy Mondays!

Volunteers will learn and assist in modifying toys to make them more accessible for children, particularly those living with a disability. This includes adjusting the size, shape, or functionality of the toy to accommodate the individual’s needs.  

AT Services can provide a list of toys appropriate for toy adaptation; if volunteers can bring a toy to adapt and donate to AT Services, that would be greatly appreciated!

Volunteers play a crucial role in our academic support programs by helping Club members with their homework and providing general academic support. Your guidance will help students stay on track with their studies and build confidence in their learning abilities​​.

Help bring history to life as a docent guide at the Mallory- Neely Home located in the Victorian Village Historic District. The Mallory-Neely Home is one of Memphis' treasured historic sites. It is all the more special in that it retains all of the original historic interiors, furniture, and artifacts almost exclusively.

As a guide in this wonderful home, you will offer visitors up close and personal experiences while walking through the home. You will give visitors a glimpse into the lives of a family from over hundred years ago.  Docents will conduct tours and give accurate information on the home and its occupants.  Docents will also assist with special events and serve as a link between the community and guests to the home. Docents must commitment to 4 hours a month on Fridays or Saturdays for one year.  Preferred skills are individuals with a desire to work with the public and an interest in history. ABOUT THE STORE: The Store operates as a free grocery store allowing people to shop for their basic needs. Our mission is to nourish communities and cultivate hope by providing nutritious food choices and access to supportive services in a dignified, loving environment. This volunteer opportunity will allow you to make a tangible impact upon the local community. You'll be helping provide wholesome food to families and the food insecure in a welcoming environment while protecting dignity and fostering hope.

GARDEN HELPERS: The Store has partnered with the Edgehill Community Gardens and has a dedicated garden plot for us to grow produce. We use this to stock our fresh produce section. We are looking for volunteers who can help with general garden bed maintenance, which could include weeding, tilling, planting, watering, harvesting and other miscellaneous garden tasks.

Our emergency food pantry is partially stocked with donations from local grocery stores. We are required to pick-up those donations on an ongoing basis. We are seeking individuals to pick up food donations from local grocery stores.

We currently have two dedicated volunteers for this project who are taking some time off for the summer, so we need your help! 

Days and Times:

We have pick-ups at locations on North Broadway and near the university on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays. Pick-ups occur in the mornings sometime between 9:30 am and noon. Typically the whole process from arrival to departure takes about 1 1/2 hours., so the start time is somewhat flexible. Volunteers may choose any one of these days or multiple days per week.

We are seeking volunteers who can be here at least one morning per week, although we know that sometimes there will be changes to a regular schedule.

We also need substitute drivers who can fill in when our regular drivers aren't available.

Background Checks:

Note that volunteers will drive Salvation Army vehicles for the pick-ups (either a mini-van or a full-size pick-up truck). For that reason, all volunteers for this project must be background checked and we must pull a driving record.

Volunteers have always been an important part of our state's official outdoor drama, Liberty!

Support staff and students during programming hours by assisting in activity rooms, helping serve snacks, supervising shared spaces, and providing extra support when programs are busy. These volunteers help create a safe environment for our community. Qualifications: Comfortable standing, walking, and working for extended periods. Reliable and punctual. Able to work independently on projects.

Description: Assist with sorting, labeling, and organizing materials throughout the facility. These Volunteers will help improve efficiency by creating organized and accessible spaces.

Interests and abilities:  Enjoys organizing and categorizing materials throughout the facility. Detail oriented and dependable.

Qualifications: Basic organizational skills. Ability to lift and move light supplies or boxes. Reliable and able to follow directions.

Support the upkeep, repair, and general maintenance of indoor and outdoor spaces by assisting with basic maintenance tasks, equipment setup, repairs, painting, and cleanup. These volunteers will help maintain safe, clean, and functional environments for our community.

Interests and abilities: Enjoys hands- on work and repair projects. Comfortable using basic tools. Interested in building, fixing, and improving spaces inside and outside.

Qualifications: Basic knowledge of hand tools and maintenance equipment. Ability to safely use tools.

We are seeking a dependable and skilled volunteer to assist with facility and property improvement projects that go beyond general maintenance. This role includes repairing fencing, dugouts, tables, and other materials on sight as needed. We provide the project ideas and needs, and volunteers help bring those improvements to life through quality workmanship and hands-on support.

Interests and Abilities: Enjoys hands-on repair and building improvement projects. Ability to use hand and power tools safely and effectively. Comfortable working outdoors. Able to complete tasks related to construction and repairs.

Qualifications: Experience with carpentry, construction, and repair type work. General knowledge of building materials and tasks. Ability to complete projects with attention to safety and quality. Access to personal tools and equipment preferred.

Support the development and upkeep of creative art projects around the facility. Projects can range from murals, bulletin boards, ceiling tiles, fence designs and signage. Responsibilities will include helping plan and sketch design ideas, preparing and organizing materials, painting, and assembling artwork. Volunteers may also help update existing displays, ensure visuals remain neat and contribute creative input to ongoing and future projects.   

Interests and abilities: Interest in visual arts such as painting, design, or mixed media. Enjoyment of collaborative and hands-on creative projects. Ability to follow design ideas and contribute artistic input when appropriate. Attention to detail, especially in layout, lettering, and color use. Ability to work well in team settings and independently. Organized and responsible with art materials and workspace upkeep.

Qualifications: Reliable and able to participate consistently in projects. Ability to follow instructions and contribute to group plans. Comfortable working with paint, paper, markers, and other art materials. Positive attitude toward creativity, collaboration, and community artwork.

Role: Event Day Operations Lead (Volunteer)

What they do

This role is ongoing for special events like Juneteenth: Bridging Communities and Imagination Fest. The goal is to make this a grant funded role in time.  This role might require some light admin work like phone calling for an hour or two a week before festival launch. Most of the work will be done for one day for each festival.  The Event Day Operations Lead is the on-the-ground right hand for the event. They help keep the day running smoothly by coordinating volunteers, keeping activities on schedule, supporting vendors/partners, and troubleshooting small issues so the event lead can focus on programming, partnerships, and overall leadership.

CASA volunteers serve as trained advocates for children involved in the foster care system due to abuse or neglect. Volunteers build supportive relationships with children, gather information from families and professionals, monitor case progress, and provide informed recommendations to the court to help ensure each child’s best interests, safety, and permanency needs are met.

Help us prep and prepare antique football helmets to support our upcoming club renovations campaign. We envision painting and adding small emblems and designs that represent our club activities, mission, and programs to display throughout the facility during our grand re-opening. We have over 100 helmets and this will take a team up to 5 to commit and execute.

Drivers pick up meals between 10 - 10:30 and usually are finished before noon.  Drivers typically deliver once a month.  While most drivers continue to volunteer with us for many years, new drivers should commit to at least a year (12 one hour shifts total).  Since we all have conflicts from time to time, finding a sub or a swap is easy. The entire route is mapped out for you, with step-by-step directions to go from one stop to the next.  You'll deliver the same route each month.  Please join us!

We are looking for dedicated and passionate volunteers to help support our mission of guiding refugees as they move on a path from surviving to thriving through our mentorship program.
We'll match you with a client to meet with as a mentor at least once a month for 3-6 months.

We are in need of someone who has experience with large appliance maintenance ( e.g. refridgerator, washer, dryer, dishwasher, etc). 

We are currently preparing to renovate a ministry-owned home that will be used as transitional housing for individuals working toward stability and independent living. Before the home can safely serve residents, it needs renovation support, materials, and skilled construction partners.

We are not asking one company or individual to carry the entire renovation. We are seeking partners who may be willing to help through donated materials, discounted services, a project walkthrough, skilled labor, sponsorship of one renovation phase, or introductions to trusted trades.

Do you have experience with coding, electronics, robotics, or digital technology? Girl Scouts of Southern Appalachians is looking for volunteers to help facilitate STEM experiences using our Raspberry Pi equipment.

Whether you can lead a single workshop, assist with a troop meeting, or develop a series of activities, your expertise can help girls discover new interests and build confidence in technology.

What does this mean? You get to be someone's friend! It's as easy as showing up and watching a movie, playing bingo, or listening to a story. You don't need to have experience to make a huge impact.
