Volunteer: Urgent need - Volunteer Delivery Driver for 4th Thursday of each month

Drivers pick up meals between 10 - 10:30 and usually are finished before noon.  Drivers typically deliver once a month.  While most drivers continue to volunteer with us for many years, new drivers should commit to at least a year (12 one hour shifts total).  Since we all have conflicts from time to time, finding a sub or a swap is easy. The entire route is mapped out for you, with step-by-step directions to go from one stop to the next.  You'll deliver the same route each month from Waverly Road Presbyterian.  Please join us!

Volunteer: Be a Voice for a Child in Bedford County

Who We Are

CASA — Court Appointed Special Advocates — is a nonprofit organization operating across the state of Tennessee, with hundreds of dedicated volunteers. Our mission is to advocate for children who have been removed from their homes due to abuse or neglect, ensuring their voices are heard in the court system.

As the CASA Supervisor for Bedford County, I can tell you firsthand: the need in our community is real, it is urgent, and it is growing. DCS caseworkers are overwhelmed, and the children navigating the court system deserve someone in their corner who is focused entirely on their best interest.

The Need in Bedford County

Every unassigned case is a child without an advocate. We are asking our community to step up and help change that.

What Does a CASA Volunteer Do?

Once trained and assigned, you will be matched with a case involving one or more children currently in DCS custody in Bedford County. Your role is to:

1.     Make contact with the child or children at least once per month.

2.     Form an independent, unbiased opinion on what is truly in that child's best interest.

3.     Document your findings and share them with the CASA supervisor, who can bring them to court in a formal report (you will be trained on this).

4.     Optionally attend court hearings — but this is not required. The CASA supervisor is present at Bedford County court every Monday and can represent your findings.

This role is flexible. You work on your own schedule and your own time — this is something you can do alongside your existing commitments.

Volunteer Requirements

To become a CASA volunteer, you must:

5.     Be 21 years of age or older

6.     Pass a background check and drug screening

7.     Complete an in-person interview and application

8.     Complete 30+ hours of online training

9.     Attend a full-day, in-office training session to complete certification

10.Pass a reference check before being assigned a case

Volunteer: Little Essentials, Big Impact: Baby Supply Drive

We are seeking volunteers to host donation drives to collect baby essentials for families with young children in our programs. Many of the families we serve are working to stabilize their lives and provide safe, nurturing homes for their children, and access to basic baby supplies can be a significant financial burden. Volunteer groups can make a meaningful difference by organizing workplace, school, church, or community donation drives to collect much-needed items such as:

diapers (all sizes, but recently we've used a lot of Pull-Ups, sizes 2-3T, 3-4T)wipesdiaper creams and pastesbaby lotionbaby wash and shampooand other infant care essentialsspecific need currently for 2T girls clothing

These supplies are distributed directly to families with infants and toddlers, helping reduce stress and ensuring children have the care items they need to stay clean, healthy, and comfortable. By hosting a donation drive, volunteers help strengthen families and support healthy beginnings for our community’s youngest children.

Suggested set-up: Designate a collection spot at your office/church, share the list of needed items and how it supports local families served by TTT, and set a deadline for when items should be donated. After the deadline, schedule a time to deliver donations to our office, or we can come to you. We would love to take pictures to celebrate the efforts of your team's donation drive and give thanks through public recognition!

Volunteer: Food Donation Pick-ups for Salvation Army Emergency Food Pantry

Our emergency food pantry is partially stocked with donations from local grocery stores. We are required to pick-up those donations on an ongoing basis. We are seeking individuals to pick up food donations from local grocery stores.

We currently have two dedicated volunteers for this project who are taking some time off for the summer, so we need your help!

Days and Times:

We have pick-ups at locations on North Broadway and near the university on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays. Pick-ups occur in the mornings sometime between 9:30 am and noon. Typically the whole process from arrival to departure takes about 1 1/2 hours., so the start time is somewhat flexible. Volunteers may choose any one of these days or multiple days per week.

We are seeking volunteers who can be here at least one morning per week, although we know that sometimes there will be changes to a regular schedule.

We also need substitute drivers who can fill in when our regular drivers aren't available.

Background Checks:

Note that volunteers will drive Salvation Army vehicles for the pick-ups (either a mini-van or a full-size pick-up truck). For that reason, all volunteers for this project must be background checked and we must pull a driving record.

Please contact Tracy Weber directly to discuss this meaningful volunteer opportunity!

Volunteer: Event Day Operations Lead (Volunteer)

Role: Event Day Operations Lead (Volunteer)

What they do

This role is ongoing for special events like Juneteenth: Bridging Communities and Imagination Fest. The goal is to make this a grant funded role in time.  This role might require some light admin work like phone calling for an hour or two a week before festival launch. Most of the work will be done for one day for each festival.  The Event Day Operations Lead is the on-the-ground right hand for the event. They help keep the day running smoothly by coordinating volunteers, keeping activities on schedule, supporting vendors/partners, and troubleshooting small issues so the event lead can focus on programming, partnerships, and overall leadership.

Key responsibilities

Pre-event check-in (light planning): 1–2 short check-ins in the week leading up to the event to review the run-of-show, site map, and roles. Volunteer coordination: confirm volunteer arrival times, assign stations, provide quick direction, and handle volunteer breaks. Vendor/partner support: greet vendors/partners, confirm placement, answer basic questions, and ensure setups follow safety rules (tents weighted, clear walkways, etc.). Run-of-show management: keep a copy of the schedule, call time reminders, and help transitions between activities. Troubleshooting: handle small issues (missing supplies, signage needs, lines forming, station flow) and escalate major issues to the event lead. Safety + flow: monitor crowd flow, keep pathways clear, and coordinate with the event lead on any safety concerns. Wrap-up: help confirm cleanup assignments and make sure the site is left orderly.

What success looks like

Volunteers know where to go and what to do Stations run on time and feel organized Vendors feel supported The event lead is free to host, manage partners, and handle higher-level decisions
