The Joy of Music School holds Board Meetings from noon to 1pm on the third Wednesday of every other month throughout the calendar year. Our first meeting of 2026 will be on Wednesday, January 21st. We are looking for a volunteer receptionist to answer phones and let visitors in to the school during those six meetings. It is a light duty position.

Camp is for everyone at Creative Discovery Museum!  CDM is looking for volunteers to serve as camp assistants at our school age and Friends’ Discovery camps.  Help our campers explore, innovate, create, and play all summer long.  Campers will explore CDM's exhibits, tackle STEAM challenges, and make new friends - creating lifelong memories!

Camp Assistant Responsibilities:

·         Support camp staff with daily summer camp activities using provided plans, including fun, hands-on experiences designed for different age groups.

·         Engage with campers through playful learning that sparks curiosity, creativity, and exploration.

·         Help create a welcoming, inclusive, and safe environment where every camper feels comfortable and valued.

·         Model kindness, patience, and respect while supporting campers’ positive behavior and social-emotional growth.

·         Work alongside camp staff to help the day run smoothly and assist wherever needed.

·         Help with setting up activities, preparing materials, cleaning up, and guiding campers during transitions throughout the day.

Time Commitment:

·         Camps run weekly in June and July (excluding the week of June 29 to July 3).

·         Volunteers must commit to a minimum of two days per selected week of camp.  Volunteers with weeklong availability are preferred.

·         Shift times vary by the type of camp (school age or Friends’ Discovery Camp).  Typical shifts are 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. or 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. for Friends’ Discovery Camp

Requirements:

·         Volunteers must be at least 18 years of age

·         Background check and interview required for all volunteers

·         All volunteers are required to attend a camp training led by CDM staff

We are so excited to kick off this three-year initiative of free summer concerts in Maryville! Volunteers will be needed the day of each concert for various tasks such as set-up, merchandise table, stage hands, and clean-up. 2026 concerts will be every Thursday in June and July.

Come spend some time at the Sadie Ford Heritage Farm and be part of keeping history alive. Join our staff as we take on routine upkeep and hands-on projects around the farm, from gardening and chicken coop care to grounds keeping and building maintenance. It is a great opportunity to get outside, learn new skills, and make a meaningful impact while enjoying the charm of the farm. Come lend a hand and be part of something special.

PLAYOLOGIST VOLUNTEER DESCRIPTION 

Playologist volunteers at Muse Knoxville work alongside our Guest Experience team to help facilitate discovery, exploration and play with our exhibit spaces and programming, while helping to maintain a clean and safe space for all. This volunteer is managed by the Vice President of Operations and the Guest Experience team. Any questions or concerns regarding scheduled shifts, hours verification, etc. will be directed to Shelby Cornell at shelby@themuseknoxville.org.  

SCHEDULE: This volunteer opportunity occurs during Muse’s operating hours. Volunteer shifts are typically 3 hours in length, but can vary from 2-6 hours depending on the volunteer. Shifts are scheduled via Give Pulse, Volunteer East Tennessee, or other volunteer recruitment platform.

WHEN VOLUNTEERING AS A PLAYOLOGIST, YOU WILL … 

Engage with children and families on the exhibit floor by interacting with them in our exhibit spaces

Help maintain museum safety and cleanliness by sanitizing individual toys and surfaces with bleach solution

Pick up toys and exhibit items and return them to their proper place

Be aware of your surroundings and let a staff member know if you see something unsafe, witness an injury, or see a lost child or a parent looking for a lost child

Communicate any items needed on exhibit floor to a staff member (Makespace supplies, Draw Alive copies, etc.)

Answer questions from guests as applicable and/or direct them to the nearest staff member

Facilitate Daily Discovery activity table as directed by staff

Complete other tasks as assigned by staff

Complete outdoor tasks as assigned by staff based on availability and need including but not limited to pulling weeds, spreading mulch, leaf blowing, painting, etc. 

In Makespace exhibit area:

Monitor children and ensure the safe use of the hot glue guns

Facilitate creativity and discovery by asking questions, encouraging children, and helping them find supplies

Restock supplies if bins are low or empty

Clean off tables and surfaces

Sweep the floor often and before the end of your shift

Volunteers serve food from a cafeteria-style serving line and assist with other kitchen duties, as needed.  Kitchen duties can include sweeping, cleaning and disinfecting tables and/or rinsing dishes.  

Once you sign up for a shift, your volunteer shift is confirmed.

If you are volunteering as part of a group, each person in the group must sign up to volunteer separately.

Arrival time, parking, entry, and attire:

Please arrive at our Knoxville Area Command at 409 N Broadway, Knoxville, TN no later than 11:15 pm. You may park anywhere. Enter the main building facing Broadway building through our main entrance (second entrance on the front side of the building between the flag pole and playground). Let the receptionist know you are there to volunteer. You will be directed where to go once you check in at the front desk. 

If you are volunteering on a date when the main office is closed, please walk around the back of the main building to the kitchen entrance which is the last door on the raised patio.

Volunteers should wear long pants and closed-toed shoes. Attire should also be appropriate and not include profanity, low-cut tops, or excessively short dresses or shorts.

Assist Harrison Bay restore and clean signage across the park campground!

Tasks will include cleaning numbered campsite markers and other signage located throughout the park. This volunteer opportunity will begin at 1:00 p.m. and end at 2:00 p.m.

Volunteers are needed to assist in serving meals to those in our community fighting food insecurity. We are serving meals to-go and can use your help in packaging and handing those meals out.

Tasks can include: food prep, serving, table prep and cleanup.

Dress code:  Must wear pants and closed toe shoes, as well as be modestly dressed (no short shirts) If you do not dress appropriately, you will be asked to leave and come back with proper attire.

Engage with Camp Muse kids and Education staff during the classroom lessons and activities, helping kids as needed with the activity, passing out materials, prepping activity stations, helping to clean up, and monitoring the behavior of the Camp Muse kids

Assist with lunch time by helping to open any containers, monitoring Camp Muse kids for safe behavior while eating, and assisting with clean up after they are done eating

Assist with bathroom monitoring by escorting Camp Muse kids to the bathroom from the outside play areas, the exhibit floor, or the classroom; waiting outside the doors for the Camp Muse kids and walking them back to the rest of the group

Help pick up toys and reset exhibit spaces after Camp Muse kids are on the exhibit floor

Assist with dismissal by helping to monitor Camp Muse kids as they are waiting to be picked up by their adults

Clean counters, wipe tables, and sweep the classroom floor after the Camp Muse kids dismiss

The thrift store often needs volunteers to help sort the donated items Mondays-Saturdays 9 AM. - 4:30 PM.

Born out of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Wesley House’s Red Bird Community Store began as an urgent response to food insecurity. Today, it stands as a permanent pillar of our mission, serving the Beaumont, Lonsdale, and Mechanicsville communities. What started as a simple food pantry has grown into a fully stocked donation center, providing not only groceries but also clothing, toiletries, and essential household items to those in need.

We are in need of individuals to assist with the operations of our emergency food pantry - specifically we need volunteers who can unload food boxes from vehicles and help put away donated items in our pantry under the direction of our food pantry coordinator.

This shift is for Monday. Volunteers are needed on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays from 10:30-11:30 am. You may volunteer for any days that work in your schedule.

MEDIC Regional Blood Center is currently seeking volunteers to assist in scheduling appointments with whole blood donors. Volunteers will use MEDIC office phones and will be asked to make several calls per shift. 

All volunteers must undergo a criminal background check, no exceptions. MEDIC staff will send the background check link to your email address within 48 hours of your registration to volunteer. 

Volunteers will also need to sign waivers during their first shift. Volunteers will be given a volunteer ID badge to wear while they work at the center. 

Schedulers will work at our Ailor Center at 1601 Ailor Avenue. Volunteers must adhere to MEDIC policies, including those for smoke-free and fragrance-free environments. 

Volunteers will be given a script and a call list using our donor platform. 

Volunteers who do not show up for their registered volunteer slot without notice forfeit all remaining slots the volunteer has signed up for. If a volunteer is unable to attend their shift for any reason, please email volunteer@medicblood.org. Join us for an afternoon Ice Cream Social! 

Join us for a summer-themed craft session from 3:00–4:00 PM at Sunshine Services! Volunteers will support participants as needed with following directions, fine motor taks, maintainging a neat workspace, and encouraging creative expression. Most importantly, come socialize, build connections, and see what the Recreation Department at Sunshine is all about.

Our volunteers work out of our Maryville warehouse in the Product Recovery area or our Repack Clean Room where we process donated and bulk food for distribution, to help feed our East Tennessee neighbors.

Volunteers also help in non-food project support roles such as cleaning, letter stuffing, and miscellaneous admin duties. 

No experience necessary! Training will be provided on-site at the beginning of the shift.

*Volunteers must be at least 10 years of age, and anyone under the age of 16 must be accompanied by an adult chaperone.
** Please note, for groups that have minors ages 10-15 among the participants, we require a 1:5 chaperone to minor ratio. Please ensure that your group size matches this ratio with adult chaperones (18+) and minors.

Volunteers needed to greet folks coming for food (groceries) assistance, assist with setting up food displays, and helping our guests select food items. Any amount of time between 9am-1pm is good This pantry provides food to about 250 families each day.

This is a wonderful opportunity for volunteers to serve close to home- in their own community. Our truck and staff will arrive with food and volunteers will work together to assist in the distribution of the food items to those in need. Volunteers must be able to stand for the duration of shift, as well as lift, bend and carry boxes to vehicles.

This is the heart of what we do. On Distribution Day, volunteers help prepare food boxes and load them into the cars of those we are serving. From organizing items to loading boxes and offering a kind word, every role makes a difference.

Chattanooga Room in the Inn thrift store volunteers play a vital role in supporting our mission by assisting with donations, organizing merchandise, and creating a welcoming experience for every customer who walks through the door. Each shift helps generate critical funding that directly supports women and children experiencing homelessness in our community.

Our thrift store is open Tuesday - Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., and volunteers have the flexibility to choose both their start time and the length of their shifts within those hours.

Interested volunteers will need to complete a Chattanooga Room in the Inn volunteer application, upload a valid ID and attend an orientation. Once submitted through iHelp, CRITI's Volunteer Coordinator Libby Preston will follow up with next steps.

The Kingsport Public Library will be hosting many programs this summer that we will need extra help with! We are seeking volunteers on select dates in June for our summer reading kids' programs. You will be helping run games, activities, crafts, and general setting up/take down. Depending on the turnout, you may be focusing on crowd control and getting patrons to where they need to be. Extra details for the programs on specific dates can be found on the library's website, or you can reach out to us, and we can get you whatever information you need!

Little Chefs, Big Change is a nonprofit organization that partners with Title 1 schools, community centers, and after-school programs across Knoxville to get elementary and middle school kids excited about cooking and eating healthy food. Interested in learning to work with birds of prey?  Join Roan Mountain State Park for a series of volunteer workdays with Park Ranger Phil Hylen and our park owls: Shiloh and Sunshine.  Volunteers will help the park to clean owl cages, complete minor aviary maintenance, and assist with the care of the owls (obtaining weights, checking housing conditions, and learning their stories to educate the public).  Each shift will begin by meeting Ranger Phil at the Park Headquarters building to sign in and brief for the shift.  While 3 volunteers will help to clean, a handler will be present to work with the owls directly and train cleaners on skillsets necessary to work directly with the owls.      

Shifts vary on time and the maximum number of volunteers.  We will be trying to conduct two volunteer days per week to allow for more enrichment time with the owls and volunteers.  

      Join us in supporting local ecosystems through hands-on conservation work at our pollinator garden. Volunteers will assist with routine weeding and light maintenance to help native plants thrive and provide essential habitat for pollinators such as bees, butterflies, and other beneficial species. 

      This is a great opportunity to earn service hours for school, organizational requirements, or scholarship requirements while making a meaningful impact in your community. No prior experience is necessary.

      Volunteers will gain an understanding of pollinator friendly landscapes, invasive plant management, and the importance of maintaining healthy habitats.

Lakeshore Park Conservancy is always in need of volunteers to help with daily maintenance and care for the Park. Join us for Weeding Wednesday to help our grounds crew with various projects within the Park. Projects may include weeding, planting, mulching, and other outdoor tasks needed around the 185-acre Lakeshore Park. Volunteers should wear weather appropriate clothing & shoes (you may get dirty!) and bring a water bottle. Our team will have all the other supplies you need. An email will be sent the day prior to your shift indicating where to meet and a sign will be placed on the door of the Lakeshore Park Office building by the pickleball courts showing where to go.

Dogwood Elementary will be having a weed wrangle on June 25th! In Partnership with Ijams we will be on the trail removing invasive plants to keep the trail nice and not overgrown.

Our school food pantry provides essential support to families by offering fresh produce, shelf‑stable groceries, and household necessities each week. This work ensures that every child in our community has access to the nourishment they need to learn, grow, and thrive. To keep our pantry running smoothly, we rely on volunteers to help unload and organize deliveries. These deliveries often include boxes of canned goods, cases of produce, and bulk items that require moderate to heavy lifting. Volunteers should be comfortable lifting up to 10 pounds and spending some time outdoors while trucks are being unloaded. We are in need of individuals to assist with the operations of our emergency food pantry - specifically we need volunteers who can unload food boxes from vehicles and help put away donated items in our pantry under the direction of our food pantry coordinator.

Join us at Fountain Lanes Strike and Spare for two games of bowling. Volunteers may assist participants as needed with moving bowling ramps and placing the ball on the ramp. If you would like to bowl with us, the cost is $3 for both games, and shoe rental is included. Sunset Skate is officially back on the riverfront this summer!

Volunteers are needed to help with event set-up, skate rentals, and breakdown at the skate night series under the Sunset Canopy in Tom Lee Park!

This opportunity is broken down into three shifts:

Shift 1: 5:00 - 7:30 p.m. (2.5 hours) - Event set-up/Event

Shift 2: 7:00 - 9:30 p.m. (2.5 hours) - Event/Event break-down

Duties may include:

Setting up skate rink area

Assist with check-in of skate participants

Survey park visitors

Fishing line recycling containers have been installed at each boat dock. The monofilament is collected from recycling bins and cleaned of hooks, leaders, weights, and trash. It is then shipped to the Berkley Pure Fishing company in Iowa. Berkley melts the line down into raw plastic pellets that can be made into other plastic products including tackle boxes, spools for line, fish habitats, and toys. Meet at the back porch of the Visitor Center to receive collection instructions. You will walk or drive to collect the line from the recycling containers and bring it back to the Visitor Center to process the contents as we work to preserve our shoreline, protect wildlife and prevent damage to boat propellers.

Senior Ride Nashville is growing our volunteer driver team! Drivers use their own vehicles to transport seniors to community centers, medical appointments, grocery stores, beauty/barber shops and more. Help a senior get where they need to go and make a friend in the process! Volunteer shifts are flexible and scheduled at your convenience using an easy online tool. SRN provides rides Monday-Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Bridge Refugee Services, Inc.'s mission is to provide opportunities for refugees to rebuild their lives after suffering persecution so that they may become productive, contributing members of the community. Bridge Refugee Services offers support to over 400 refugee clients in the greater Knox Co. area, and we cannot do this without community support.

Recent changes in federal law have significantly limited food assistance for our newest neighbors, leaving many refugee families facing food insecurity.  At Bridge Refugee Services, we are committed to fighting against food insecurity for the refugee neighbors we serve.  We invite local partners and volunteers to help us combat food insecurity.  We need volunteers to help us receive incoming food donations, weigh and record the donations, pack food boxes for distribution, and take food boxes out to vehicles.

Envision Clinic is a one-week experience hosted at Signal Centers’ Assistive Technology campus for individuals who are blind or have limited vision.

Week 1: June 8–12, ages 11–22

Week 2: June 22–26, ages 23+

Time: 9:30 AM–3:30 PM

The clinic will focus on independence, self-advocacy, digital literacy, and movement. We are seeking volunteers who are excited to bring positive energy, support learning, and help create a fun, camp-like environment.

Volunteers will assist with activities and lessons while serving as extra hands and eyes throughout the week. Activities may include video games, cooking lessons, financial literacy and planning, art, computer and smartphone training, outdoor adventure, and more.

The goal of Envision Clinic is to build a supportive environment where participants feel safe, encouraged, and empowered to participate as independently as possible.

Join TCWP, the Clinch Valley Trails Alliance, and Greenways Oak Ridge for our sixth annual trash cleanup and peaceful hike along the East Fork Poplar Creek Greenway in west Oak Ridge.

This scenic trail winds alongside the creek through a beautiful riparian woodland. Because the area is prone to occasional flooding, trash gets washed from upstream areas down into the creek bed and onto its banks. Volunteers are needed to help remove this litter and keep the area beautiful and healthy.

Trash bags and some pick-up tools will be provided. Participants are encouraged to bring gloves and wear shoes suitable for mud and water.

Volunteer Opportunity:

The river belongs to all of us, help keep it clean for everyone! Come help us clean up the river at Cummins Falls State Park. Volunteers will be in our gorge area of the park picking up trash. You will be in and out of the river bed so make sure you have clothing you don't care to get wet. All supplies will be available to you. We will meet in the breezeway of the visitor center. 

Cancellation Policy: 

In case of inclement weather we will cancel all operations and you will be contacted by park staff.

This is double-feature movie night at Ijams Nature Center.

The shift will begin at 5:30 pm and volunteers will help with setting up the check in area, putting out the special event gates, etc. For the remainder of the event, volunteers will help in a number of ways including redirecting guests, ticket sales and check in, helping with trash and recycling, and take down/clean up at the end of the evening. Headlamps are encouraged if you have any.  

Need volunteer hours for school? Join us to do some volunteer work throughout the park. Work will consist of groundskeeping, litter pickup, and potentially some invasive species removal.

Volunteers needed to greet folks coming for food (groceries) assistance, assist with setting up food displays, and helping our guests select food items. Any amount of time between 9am-1pm is good This pantry provides food to about 250 families each day.

Hospitality & Serving Team (3 Volunteers) Volunteers will assist with managing food line traffic, clearing tables, serving desserts, and serving wine or other beverages. This role is ideal for individuals who enjoy engaging with others in a fast-paced and elegant event environment.

Join us as we fertilize our rhododendron garden located within the RMSP cabin area.

Roan Mountain State Park planted rows of Rhododendron around the cabin area thanks to your donations during previous year's "Vote Your Favorite State Park" event. To help support these plants and beautify the area, we will be mulching around the individual plants.

Volunteers should bring plenty of water, gloves if they have them, and dress appropriately for the weather. All other tools will be provided by the park.

Meeting location: Cabin overflow parking (Moonshiner's Run trailhead)

Join rangers for a trail-building opportunity on Sunday, June 28, 2026 at Window Cliffs State Natural Area from 10 am to 1 pm! These volunteer opportunities will consist of manual labor, removing dirt, roots, stumps, and trees from the new Pyro Trail located at the Window Cliffs State Natural Area parking lot. The new trail is less than a mile long with some elevation change. Please register to attend and bring at least 64 oz of water, along with snacks or lunch. It is recommended to wear long pants and shirts due to poison ivy. Closed-toed shoes must be worn. Tools will be provided along with gloves and eye protection. If you have gloves, eye protection, or tools, feel free to bring them. 

Help refresh and prepare our facility during mid-summer clean up and organize week. Volunteers will assist with deep cleaning, organizing, moving supplies, outdoor clean up, and general improvement projects throughout the building and grounds.

Interests and abilities: Enjoys hands on projects and teamwork. Comfortable with helping with cleaning and organizing. Positive attitude and willingness to help.

Qualifications: Ability to lift and move light to moderate items. Reliable and able to follow directions.

Foster Closet sorting & organizing.  Sorting clothes, shoes, hygiene items & other essentials.

As new projects arise, there may be some cleaning & moving items as needed.  

Do you enjoy spending time with older adults? Help us conduct client satisfaction surveys either in person at nursing facilities near you or via phone surveys to ensure satisfactory service outcomes. 

What are the surveys for? Each year TennCare contracts with state Area Agencies on Aging and Disability to conduct National Core Indicators Surveys with consumers receiving TennCareare services.  The core indicators are standard measures used across states to access the outcomes of services provided to individuals and families. Indicators address key areas of concern including planning, rights, community inclusion, choice, health and care coordination, safety and relationships.  Each year TennCare looks at the results of these anonymous surveys to improve and enhance services to consumers.

Why should I help? Those conducting the surveys are offering consumers and their families a chance to express their opinions about services received, offer suggestions, and make recommendations to enhance their care and quality of life.

What would I be doing? The surveyor role requires individuals to reach out to consumers by phone or by traveling to nursing facilities to administer the surveys. We will coordinate with you to assign locations that are close to you.  The surveyor will read the questions to each individual and record the responses into a database. This requires the ability to use basic computer skills. Each survey should take from 45 minutes to one hour to complete.

Surveyor Training: TennCare requires that all surveyors complete training. The training is in two parts: a series of self-paced online modules (takes about 2 hours to complete), and a 2.5-hour live training with a GNRC staff member. The live webinar trainings will be scheduled as needed.

When can I volunteer? In person surveys can be conducted during regular visiting hours of the nursing homes. Phone surveys can be conducted during the day or in the early evening hours. You can make your own schedule and choose how many surveys you want to complete. The survey period runs from December 8 through June 30th. 

Where would I volunteer? Clients are located all over Middle Tennessee. Training takes place online and volunteers can work via phone from their own home or be assigned to nursing homes close to them.

Next Steps: After you sign up, we will follow up with you on your preference to conduct phone or in-person surveys, preferred locations and training. 

Help us bring some cheer to isolated seniors, seniors in nursing homes and/or disabled individuals in our communities by sending them heartfelt letters, letting them know that we care and haven't forgotten about them.

We are looking for uplifting letters that will bring their recipients some joy!

This month the theme for the letters is "Welcome summer" or "Independence Day" later in the month. You can incorporate the theme through art, by making your own themed cards and within the message of your letter.

If you are interested in sending letters and/or art to seniors in the community, please sign up below and include in your response (in the notes) how many letters you would like to write. I will contact you with specific instructions for the letters and the address to send them to. Children are welcome to contribute also (an adult is required for minors to sign up).

 
We are looking to have this round of letters completed and received by their recipients by 06/30/2026. Please allow a couple of days for mailing and distribution. 
 
Volunteers will be required to have their own materials for the letters and any additional artwork you'd like to add, as well as stamps to mail the letters on hand (or you must be able to take them to the post office). I will try my best to provide you with one address for your letters so you can mail them together in a large envelope. 

Please allow 48 hours for me to get back to you with the instructions. 

If you are in need of community service hours, I am happy to confirm your hours for you. Please submit pictures of your letters as proof. We will be tracking and logging the actual time you spent working on the letters/cards and do NOT assign a specific number of letters per hour. Please check with your institution if they have specific requirements of how many letters you need to complete to get your hours approved.

Younger children are welcome to participate with their parents or a guardian/caregiver.

COMMUNITY EVENT VOLUNTEER DESCRIPTION 

Community Event Volunteers at Muse Knoxville bring the power of play and STEAM-based learning to the community. This volunteer is managed by the Vice President of Operations and the Events and Merchandise Manager. Any questions or concerns regarding scheduled shifts, hours verification, etc. will be directed to Shelby Cornell at shelby@themuseknoxville.org.  

SCHEDULE: Volunteer shifts are around 4 hours in length and each shift is at a different location in the community.
