VOAD (Voluntary Organizations Active in Disaster) brings together organizations across the community to strengthen disaster resiliency, response, and recovery efforts.

When disasters strike, VOAD coordinates the response among partner agencies to ensure needs are met efficiently and effectively.

What Volunteers Do:

All volunteers will be trained by VOAD partner agencies to ensure they are equipped and prepared for deployment during disaster events.

We always need help from our visitors to help keep our trails clear from debris and trash.  Make sure to have a volunteer form filed out before you can submit hours.  Thank you!

Our patient care volunteers go out and visit our hospice patients for brief periods of time.  Some of these patients have no one left to visit them and just a friendly face for conversation or to bring them a small snack, could mean the world to them. Please call or email to find out how to have an impact on someone nearing the end of life.  This feeling is life changing and rewarding.

As a volunteer mentor, you'll be a trusted, consistent presence in a young person’s life. Through weekly meetings, activities, or sports engagement, you'll help your mentee build confidence, set goals, cope with stress, and stay on a positive path. No coaching or athletic expertise is required—just a heart for youth and a willingness to show up.

Therapeutic Preschool is an Intensive Outpatient Program for children ages 4 - 6 who have experienced significant trauma.  Children learn about emotions, coping skills and communication.  Children are provided with a space to work through their emotions in a least restrictive environment.  

Therapeutic Preschool runs Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays from 9am-12pm. 

Volunteer tasks can include:

Volunteers must commit to a minimum of 6 months to the volunteer program and must be over 21 years of age.  Volunteers must enjoy and be at ease working with children who have emotional and behavioral difficulties.

Community Educators are volunteer public speakers and community builders who help the Alzheimer's Association raise awareness, provide education, and expand the reach of educational offerings in the community. These volunteers deliver presentations using prepared training materials on topics related to Alzheimer's disease and other dementias. 

Special Events Volunteers with the Alzheimer’s Association play a key role in creating impactful community experiences. These volunteers assist with event setup and breakdown, helping to create welcoming and organized spaces that support our mission. Most often, they support tabling events, engage with the public, hand out materials, answer basic questions, and represent the Association with warmth and professionalism. Their presence helps raise awareness, promote programs, and connect individuals with vital resources. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who enjoys being out in the community and wants to make a difference in the lives of those affected by Alzheimer’s and other dementias. Volunteers may be asked to help lift and carry light materials, and events typically take place during daytime or early evening hours. TN TeenLine is looking for compassionate volunteers to support Tennessee adolescents via text. Volunteers respond to text messages from teens and young adults seeking support with emotional distress, relationship issues, mental health struggles, bullying, and more.

Ideal candidates are skilled in active listening, able to type clearly and quickly, and have some familiarity with mental health or emotional wellbeing. We welcome all volunteers 16 years of age and older to provide home repairs to individuals within Morgan, Campbell, Roane, and Anderson County TN. ADFAC aims to provide an extensive range of home repairs which include:

- Yard work: mowing, mulching, raking leaves, cleaning debris, and pruning

- Cleaning and clearing walkways

- Adding lights to walkways for accessibility and safety

- Adding handrails to existing ramps, steps, and sidewalks

- Cleaning siding and gutters

- Installing gutter guards and downspouts

- Interior and exterior painting 

- Deck, stairs, and ramp installation and repair

- Installing grab bars and other accessibility modifications

- Removing carpet and installing floor coverings

- Minor floor system repair

- Other minor interior and exterior projects as appropriate

The READ Team began in 2014 and currently serves in six Jackson-Madison County schools: Alexander, Andrew Jackson, Arlington, Isaac Lane, Lincoln, and Rose Hill. The program pairs volunteer coaches with second grade students to help improve their sight word recognition. On average, students participating in the The READ Team increase their sight word recognition by 290% in just one school year.

Coaches can choose to come once a week or to both of their days at their schools. The Read Team operates from September to mid-December and mid-January to April.

The Literacy Council of Kingsport is looking for Homework Help Tutors to support K–5th grade students at Girls, Inc. of Kingsport. Volunteers will assist children with homework in a variety of subjects in a structured, after-school setting.

This is a great opportunity for anyone who wants to give back in a fun, low-pressure environment while helping kids succeed in school!

Work with elementary students one-on-one or in small groups

Provide help with homework in subjects like reading, writing, and math

Join a cooking team to help prepare meals for needy elderly and disabled recipients.   This cook team prepares meals on the 2nd Friday of each month at Waverly Road Presbyterian Church.  Training provided.  Start time is around 8AM and completed before 10:30AM.

The Family Room, located inside Erlanger's Children's Hospital, is a peaceful, home-like space where families of patients can enjoy a meal, take a shower, and wash their clothing. This space is provided by Ronald McDonald House, a nonprofit which strives to create a "home away from home" for families whose children are receiving care in a hospital.

The Volunteer's main responsibility is to maintain a friendly and home-like atmosphere in the Family Room. Specific duties include:

This role occurs in 3-hour shifts from Monday to Friday: 9am-12pm, 12pm-3pm, and 3pm-6pm.

Onboarding as a Family Room volunteer requires* the following:

*Erlanger covers all costs for this onboarding process.

We also ask that volunteers commit to an ongoing weekly shift. For example, "every Monday from 12pm to 3pm," or "every Thursday from 3pm to 6pm," etc.

The Front Desk Support Volunteer will be responsible for providing

At Ronald McDonald House, we aim to make families feel "at home" while their children are receiving care in the hospital by providing warm, home-cooked meals during their stay. If you'd like to provide some relief to families enduring a medical crisis, you can "Adopt-A-Meal"!

*Groups who are unable to provide their own ingredients may still be able to Adopt A Meal. Talk to Melissa about alternative options. You also have the option to order food from a store or restaurant, if you have the budget for that.

The group would start with the idea of which meal slot would work best for them ( breakfast, lunch, or dinner) and then we would look for open dates on our meal calendar.   Most of the groups keep the number of volunteers around 6-8 people due to the size of the kitchen space and to help keep the families from being overwhelmed when they come into the kitchen for the meal.  The actual meal prepared would need to be made on site in the Great Kitchen or purchased from either a grocery store or restaurant.   The Great Kitchen is stocked with an assortment of pots and pans, cooking utensils, serving utensils and plates/ utensils for the families to eat off.   The meal is prepared buffet style that the families can then help themselves to during the allotted meal time and then whatever food is left over, that is placed in our re-heatable containers that the families can reheat when they return from the hospital.

Bridge Refugee Services offers support to over 400 refugee clients in the greater Knox Co. area, and we cannot do this without community support.

Through Second Harvest's Food Rescue Program, we have been able to create partnerships with local ethnic grocery stores and restaurants around Knoxville to combat food insecurity in the refugee community.  We would love to have volunteers help us pick up food donations from these stores and restaurants each week.  We will give you a location or locations to pick up from and you will represent Bridge as you drive to these locations to interact with store employees and pick up these donations.  Then bring these donations back to our office to help us weigh and record the donation.  Vehicles that can haul large donations are preferred, but may not be required.  This volunteer opportunity is a weekly opportunity with some flexibility.

Looking for a wonderful opportunity to make a significant impact on the young lives and future of students? Maynard Elementary Community School and Amachi Knoxville are partnering to provide small group mentoring during the school day this school year. Mentors will meet with 2-3 students 2nd-5th grade for 1 hour per week to encourage, help build confidence, teach friendship and leadership skills, among other things. Group activities could include sports, arts/crafts, discussion topics, and/or special group projects. Mentor training is provided through Amachi and onsite orientation is provided at Maynard Elementary. Our new initiative, 3rd Thursday: A Celebration of the Arts, is in full swing, and we would love to have more people involved! Our 2025 program is already scheduled, but we would love to introduce you to our process and help us check in with artists and businesses for September and October. 

Our Flower Power team helps us to maintain and replace the potted landscaping along Broadway Avenue. We believe these small touches help bring vibrancy and beauty to a thriving downtown district. Planting days will be scheduled based on availability, but we would love to recruit a core group of green thumbs to coordinate our efforts!

The Design Committee is open to anyone and focuses on the physical beautification of downtown through initiatives like public art, landscaping, maintenance and litter collection. In partnership with organizations like Keep Blount Beautiful and the City of Maryville, this volunteer team helps to make our downtown district a better place for everyone.

This could include anything from researh to cleaning, facilitating workshops to staffing events, taking a survey to advocating with legislators, creating social media posts to helping with fundraising. If you are committed to justice and equity in sexual and reproductive health, we could use your help, and we will work with you to determine the best fit.

Sabine Hill Social Society is a group of dedicated individuals who focus on helping Sycamore Shoals with educational events and social activities, early 19th century period clothing assistance, and helping with representing the Federalist period of time in America.

This is a committee of Belle Morris caregivers and parents that work to support our school through advocacy, service, and fundraising. They contribute towards the school partnership/leadership, student incentives and experiences, and staff support. 

Direct Care Volunteers serve as additional support to patients and families dealing with terminal illness and end-of-life complications. Support is provided to them in a variety of ways through socialization and companionship, or through offering respite (a brief break) to caregivers experiencing fatigue. 

Qualifications: 

1. Must be 18+

2. Must pass a background check, drug test, and Tuberculosis screen

All other requirements will be discussed pending a successful volunteer interview. 

Responsibilities:

1. Provide support to patients and families by performing essential tasks like reading to patients, playing games, writing letters on behalf of patients etc.

2. Provide support to patients and families by performing tuck-in (check-in) calls, completing necessary paperwork, and communicating patient and family needs/concerns in a prompt manner. 

3. May attend funeral or visit family/caregivers after patient death. 

4. Provide availability on a regular basis/ keeping with requested volunteer frequency as designated on the patient's plan of care. 

5. Participate in volunteer support or peer groups/ in-service training. 

6. Maintain regular communication with the Volunteer Coordinator about patient/family/caregiver needs. Report any concerns, problems, or sudden changes in patient/family/caregiver condition immediately.

7. Perform duties within the established volunteer care plan and function within authorized services according to the individual patient's ability, knowledge, and training. Does not assume tasks or decisions which are outside the scope of the Volunteer or are within the domain of other persons ( e.g. family members, caregiver, hospice personnel, facility staff). 

8. Document and record hours of service and return Volunteer Visit Documentation Form to the Volunteer Coordinator within a timely manner (within 1 week). 

9. Notify Volunteer Coordinator if there is a change in their situation that could affect patient care, like a planned absence or emergency time off. 

10. ALWAYS maintain patient, family, and caregiver confidentiality and abide by all federal regulations related to privacy practices (HIPPA). 

11. Assure compliance with local, state, and federal laws, Medicare regulations , and established personnel policies and procedures. 

12. Meet or exceed delivery of Company Service Standards and operate under the Gentiva's Code of Conduct. 

13. Be annually evaluated for competency and performance. 

14. Participate in at least 12 hours of continuing education (including mandatory in-service training) per year.

We are seeking dedicated and detail-oriented volunteers to help sort and organize donated medical supplies in our warehouse. Volunteers ensure that each item is properly categorized, packed, and prepared for international shipment.
