Volunteer: Adopt-A-Meal at Ronald McDonald House

At Ronald McDonald House, we aim to make families feel "at home" while their children are receiving care in the hospital by providing warm, home-cooked meals during their stay. If you'd like to provide some relief to families enduring a medical crisis, you can "Adopt-A-Meal"!

Here's how it works:

You bring your group (family, church, club, company, organization, etc.) You provide the ingredients*You come to the Ronald McDonald House to prepare the meal for all of our House guests (around 60 people, depending on our current capacity) on-site, in our Great KitchenYou may also stick around to plate and serve the families at mealtime, if you'd like!

*Groups who are unable to provide their own ingredients may still be able to Adopt A Meal. Talk to Melissa about alternative options. You also have the option to order food from a store or restaurant, if you have the budget for that.

For more details or to schedule a date to participate in the volunteer activity, please contact Melissa Miburn at Melissa.Milburn@rmhchattanooga.com

More info from Melissa:

The group would start with the idea of which meal slot would work best for them ( breakfast, lunch, or dinner) and then we would look for open dates on our meal calendar.   Most of the groups keep the number of volunteers around 6-8 people due to the size of the kitchen space and to help keep the families from being overwhelmed when they come into the kitchen for the meal.  The actual meal prepared would need to be made on site in the Great Kitchen or purchased from either a grocery store or restaurant.   The Great Kitchen is stocked with an assortment of pots and pans, cooking utensils, serving utensils and plates/ utensils for the families to eat off.   The meal is prepared buffet style that the families can then help themselves to during the allotted meal time and then whatever food is left over, that is placed in our re-heatable containers that the families can reheat when they return from the hospital.

Volunteer: Make a Real Impact: Volunteer with Gentiva Hospice

You don’t need to have it all “figured out” to change someone’s life. What you do need? Heart, presence, and the willingness to show up for people who truly need you.

At Gentiva Hospice, we’re looking for Gen Z changemakers who want to bring comfort, connection, and compassion to patients and families during one of the most important parts of life: end-of-life care.

This isn’t about checking boxes or doing “busywork.” It’s about being human, sharing time, and creating moments of peace when they matter most. Whether it’s through simple conversation, running a quick errand for a caregiver, or just sitting in quiet presence—you’ll make an impact that’s impossible to measure with a résumé line.

Why This Could Be Your Thing:

Authenticity Over Aesthetic: No filters, no fluff—just real connections with people who need supportEnergy That Matters: Share your kindness, patience, and perspective. Even a small act of care can completely change someone’s day.Level-Up Your Purpose: Helping families through life’s hardest transitions brings a kind of fulfillment no paycheck or grade can touch.Community That Cares: Join a team of staff and volunteers who are about compassion, not competition.

This is volunteering that actually means something. If you’ve been looking for a way to give back, grow personally, and be part of something bigger—this is it.

Volunteer: Help Us Pick Up Community Food Donations!

Our mission is to provide opportunities for refugees to rebuild their lives after suffering persecution so that they may become productive, contributing members of the community. Bridge Refugee Services offers support to over 400 refugee clients in the greater Knox Co. area, and we cannot do this without community support.

Through Second Harvest's Food Rescue Program, we have been able to create partnerships with local ethnic grocery stores and restaurants around Knoxville to combat food insecurity in the refugee community.  We would love to have volunteers help us pick up food donations from these stores and restaurants each week.  We will give you a location or locations to pick up from and you will represent Bridge as you drive to these locations to interact with store employees and pick up these donations.  Then bring these donations back to our office to help us weigh and record the donation.  Vehicles that can haul large donations are preferred, but may not be required.  This volunteer opportunity is a weekly opportunity with some flexibility.

Help us provide our refugee families culturally familiar, nourishing food!

Volunteer Requirements:

Complete Bridge Volunteer Paperwork Attend Bridge Volunteer Orientation (about 1hr via Zoom) Background Check through Sterling Volunteers ($17.50 per person paid to Sterling Volunteers)

Foreign language skills or experience working with refugee populations not required.

If you have any additional questions, please reach out to Peter Green, our Volunteer & Co-Sponsorship Manager, via email at pgreen@bridgerefugees.org.
