Have you ever wished you could make a difference just by running your daily errands? 

Our mission is to provide opportunities for refugees to rebuild their lives after suffering persecution so that they may become productive, contributing members of the community. Bridge Refugee Services is expecting to welcome a record number of refugees to Knoxville this year, and we cannot do this without community support.

We would love to have volunteers help us shop for culturally appropriate groceries.  We will give you grocery gift cards (you don't have to use your own money!) and a culturally appropriate grocery list for the family you are shopping for; you help us by going to a local Walmart or other grocery store and shopping for the items on the list and return the groceries to our office. This volunteer opportunity is very flexible with busy schedules!

Help us give a refugee family a head start in their new city by providing nourishing food.  

Volunteer Requirements:

Foreign language skills or experience working with refugee populations not required.

The American Red Cross is looking for disaster dispatchers in the Hamilton County area.

Have fun helping older adults discover digital literacy! Southeast TN Area Agency on Aging and Disability (SETAAAD) is partnering with Tech Goes Home Tennessee (TGH) to increase digital literacy in older adults, decrease social isolation and improve digital access and connectivity.

SETAAAD is seeking volunteers to assist older adults in learning how to use Chromebooks. Each 15- hour class has a Trainer with ten class participants. Assist the Trainer and class by providing one-on-one attention while the Trainer instructs the class.

Our long term care facility is looking for a musician or singer to donate their time and talent to our residents. Most of our residents have a love of music and would enjoy any musical performance. 

Our long term memory care facility is looking for volunteers to donate their time to visit with residents who are unable to leave their bed. Volunteers can read to residents, chat with residents, complete arts and craft projects, play an instrument, watch a movie, or share stories with residents, or engage in a volunteer planned activity.

For those who want to support our disaster recovery efforts but are not interested in construction opportunities, we can use volunteer support in the ASP office! Tasks may include responding to inquiries, answering phones, stuffing mailings, data entry, various other administrative tasks, or organizing warehouse tools and supplies. Every day, people are forced from their home due to fires, storms or other disasters. As a Disaster Action Team volunteer, you will work as part of an assigned team to provide immediate support and assistance to individuals and families who have been impacted by a home fire or other local disaster. World Relief is looking for male and female mentors. Bilingual in English and Spanish is preferred but not required.

The Youth Mentoring Program at World Relief Memphis is designed to pair young refugee participants with mentors from the community who are dedicated to helping them identify and achieve their short-term and long-term goals.

Mentors walk alongside refugee and immigrant youth ages 15-24 with the goal of developing mutually transformative relationships. The youth set their life, career, or educational goals and mentors meet regularly with the mentees to provide support, find resources and build relationship.

This program is focused on promoting positive civic and social engagement.

Men are especially needed at this time, but women may apply as well, with the understanding that there may be a waiting period before being matched with a mentee.

Time Commitment

Mentors commit to meeting together every other week for 6-12 months. High school aged mentees and their mentors meet every other Wednesday night in a staff-led group setting. Young adult mentees and their mentors meet 4 hours per month on their own time and location to discuss progress with goals.

These onboarding steps help you get to know World Relief, help us get to know you, and help protect you and our clients from harm.  Check your email for a message from your Volunteer Coordinator with next steps. Onboarding includes a short application, online workshop, background check, reference check, and live orientation. Mentoring is a critical component of Girl Talk, Inc., so we must select excellent mentors—individuals with leadership and mentoring experience, who are serious and passionate about Girl Talk’s mission. Our mentors are the hands and feet of Girl Talk, Inc. and have the most important job of all.

Girls in 6th – 12th grade from all over the city of Knoxville can apply to receive one to one mentoring.  Each girl is matched with a caring adult woman who will give her the additional support that she needs to get through life’s challenges and transitions.

Our 1:1 Mentors are there to give our girls hope, encouragement, love, support, and confidence.  Our mentors meet with their girls at least once a month to go on mentoring outings that cultivates the relationship and provide girls with a safe space to just be in such a chaotic and demanding world.

The Tennessee State Health Insurance Assistance Program (TN SHIP) is a free, non-based Medicare counseling program that assists Medicare beneficiaries and their families make the best choices for their health care needs. We are in need of volunteers in the community to assist with answering Medicare questions, attending community events, entering data and more.

McKamey Animal Center is seeking volunteers who are passionate about inspiring others to create a better world for the animals who need us the most. 2025 will be a challenging year for shelters nationwide, and MAC is no different. We need all the help we can get to ensure the best quality of life for the animals we serve. That all starts with making sure our volunteers are trained properly.

Volunteer Coaches will be the first set of friendly, helpful faces that new volunteers encounter when they come into the shelter for the first few shifts. These coaches will be responsible for ensuring all Volunteers are trained effectively and are equipped with the skills and knowledge necessary to make an impact on the lives of the animals we serve. Coaches will be asked to work with new volunteers in specific roles within the program. Coaches are asked to work with at least two volunteers per month, and may accept as many as they are comfortable with. Coaches will be provided training on the role (Canine Companions, Feline Friends, etc...) from a current coach, and will be provided a checklist to ensure they cover all of the most important information. 

Coaching areas:

- Shelter Stewards: All of the basic functions that help us operate efficiently day-to-day. These tasks include, but are not limited to, laundry, dishes, sweeping/mopping, cleaning windows, changing trash bins, etc...

- Feline Friends: As the name suggests, these volunteers are all about the kitties! Coaches will teach new volunteers how to create and distribute cat enrichment, how to safely socialize, and how to clean/spot clean cat condos.

- Canine Companions: These Volunteers get the opportunity to love on thousands of dogs each year. Coaches will teach volunteers how to create/distribute enrichment, take the pups on walks and to our play yards, how to clean/spot clean kennels, and so much more.

Meals on Wheels of Kingsport delivers over 200 hot, nutritious meals every weekday to vulnerable seniors in Kingsport.  Delivery routes are planned so that most can be completed within around an hour.  Do you have an hour a month to share? When the US Dept. of State invites a refugee to resettle in Memphis, World Relief is the primary agency that receives them and supports their resettlement journey. One of the most common and challenging barriers to integration is lack of transportation. We are looking for volunteers who can commit to driving refugees to and from our office for meetings and appointments.

Volunteers are needed Monday-Friday, 8:30am-5pm. There is no language requirement. Volunteers are called on, on an as-needed basis. There are some regularly scheduled driving shifts as well.

Our clients live in the city of Memphis, so volunteers should be comfortable driving on Memphis streets and highways. Volunteers must be able to pass a motor vehicle records check, have a valid drivers license, car insurance, and follow all rules of the road to keep themselves and clients safe. Volunteers may drive their own vehicle or a World Relief 15-passenger van or minivan.

Great Starts is a structured living program that offers integrated substance and mental health treatment services to recovering pregnant and parenting women.  The program utilizes evidence-based practices for co-occurring treatment.  The program's goal is to strengthen the mother-child bond through comprehensive services for mothers and specialized care for their children.  Volunteers will lead classes that teach women specialty & life skills. Examples include nutrition, cooking, crochet, GED tutoring, etc. Classes taught will be based on volunteers expertise.

This opportunity is weekday mornings, with frequency subject to volunteer schedule.

Loudon County Habitat for Humanity is looking for volunteer cashiers for the ReStore. Shifts are 3-4 hours long. We have AM and PM shifts available. We are looking for volunteers that can take at least two shifts per month. 

Loudon County Habitat is in need of volunteers for upcoming construction site tasks. No experience is required. There will be task leaders onsite to provide guidance.
