Founded by a small group of volunteers in 1975 as a Rape Crisis line for women in Madison County, Tennessee, WRAP has grown over the last 40 years into a dual domestic violence/sexual assault program with 17 offices serving 19 counties in West Tennessee, including Benton, Carroll, Chester, Crockett, Decatur, Dyer, Gibson, Hardeman, Hardin, Haywood, Henderson, Henry, Lake, Lauderdale, Madison, McNairy, Obion, Tipton, and Weakley. We have a simple vision at WRAP. We want safe, stable, nurturing communities. To realize this vision, WRAP’s mission is twofold. First, WRAP partners with survivors in their healing journey, providing them with the education, tools, support, and hope they need to change their lives and build for themselves safe, stable, nurturing relationships and families. Second, WRAP partners with the communities we serve to end violence against women and girls, for we believe that if we can end violence against all women and girls in our communities, then we can also end it against men and boys. And if we can do that, then we will all truly realize safer, more stable, more nurturing communities in West Tennessee.
The WRAP Team is committed to a survivor-centered, empowerment-focused practice model that embraces a more holistic approach to the provision of services. To meet the specific needs of survivors of domestic and sexual violence, WRAP programs and services are rooted in an understanding of the effects of trauma on the lives of survivors, support survivor growth and autonomy through collaboration and survivor-led decision-making, and actively work to build resilience and prevent and lessen trauma. A wide array of services are available for those who reach out to WRAP for help, including a 24/7 crisis line, safe homes, court and hospital accompaniment, counseling and therapy, resource linkage, and housing and utility assistance.
